Fox Glacier is one of those places in NZ that genuinely warrants the fuss. Getting onto the ice with an experienced guide is a different thing entirely from looking at it from a distance. The guides here consistently come up as a highlight across hundreds of reviews. Knowledgeable, safety-focused, and good at pacing the group. The company has been doing this for over 50 years and it shows.
If you have the budget, the full day tour is my pick over the half day. A recurring theme in the reviews is that the half day can feel rushed once you factor in the walk in and out. You want proper time on the ice, not just a glimpse of it. The heli hike is obviously a step up again in terms of access and views, and those who splurge on it tend not to regret it. Ice climbing is a bit more niche but attracts genuinely enthusiastic reviews from people who go in with no experience.
A fair few reviewers mention the price as a sticking point, and honestly that's a reasonable thing to flag. It's not cheap. But the gear, the guiding, and the setting are all doing a lot of work for that cost. Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off, which helps take a little of the sting out of it.

Awesome trip, we did the ebikes and hike option with Julia guiding I highly recommend it, it’s a new trip and was a fun ride to the start of the trail and then a brilliant walk through the valley to view
point. Slightly different to the heli trips but a great alternative. Julia was very knowledgeable and paced the trip really well.

We got a flight with a helicopter, very quick (same day) and it was definitely worth it.

Even traveling on a budget this is a must do experience.

Really good experience. The view and the helicopter trip was awesome but too short for me if you compare the price and the trip. Hiking on the glacier was nice.

Spend a whole day walking on the ice.
It is a shame it is melting down, too much dirt and rock in the ice. Really beautiful place.

1/2 day guided tour lasted 2 hours instead of 3-4 described in the brochure and our guide did not seem to pay attention to his group and was in a hurry to get back to his base.

Well worth the money, the guides were very informative and showed us things that usually only a full day tour get to see - cave and crevasse when available!

Unique experience, a must to do for all the lovers of nature, learn a few interesting things about the glacier.
Thanks to our tour guide Sofia, the only disappointing thing was that we spent only 1 hour on the ice.

We had a full day trip which was nice.
You get a lot of 'ice-time'. With a half day trip you only just get to the ice and then go back again. Great guidance with good information, professionalism and safety in focus.
