If you are a glacier lover or if you have never seen ice, this is for you but for ice and snow accustomed europeans, the glacier, at least in summer, feels dirty and less impressive than expected.
The walk there is dusty and somewhat boring.

Great location overlooking the lake and river.
Powered sites are flat and have great views. Easy access to bike and walking tracks.

Anatoki Salmon farm allows visitors to park over their property for up to two nights.
No signs, but clearly stated on their website. Great location, with farm animals being walked past our site!

Fantastic lakeside walking and cycle trail from the village to the Lake Outlet Campground.

We really enjoyed the road over the Haast Pass - easy enough to drive, but great scenery and lovely stopping points.

Campsite number 4 on the Te-Anau-Milford Sound Road, small but utterly impressive, with views of the valley and mountains.

Little attention to details - toilet not very well cleaned, dishes and cutlery not the same for all, hoses too short.
Functionality okay though, depot good.

Great short walk, with hugely impressive and somewhat unexpected waterfall cascades.
Very scenic rainforest walk.

Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony
Yes it is a bit pricey, but the experience of >150 penguins (in Oamaru), walking 2 metres past us to their burrows was incredible.
If you can, pay extras for the premium tickets to be closest to the action.

Wild Earth
We accidentally stumbled across this lovely petting zoo style farm that is also home to the Anatoki Eels - stunning 4 foot wild animals that have been fed here for 100 years!
The farm is really well maintained and run with care.
