Gorgeous spot right next to river - reasonably priced at $15 per adult, extra $5 for power.
Very rustic camp hut with potable water with a sink and power. The toilet block is clean and modern - pay wave $4.50 for a 7 minute hot shower ( only one shower) and bonus for being dog friendly m. Stayed two nights due to how peaceful it was - highly recommend

Paeroa RV Centre
Stayed here for two nights due to the last cyclone, otherwise probably wouldn’t have.
Mostly permanents living here with a few powered sites for travellers. Really is just a giant gravel car park. It cost $65/ night for two adults and you had to pay extra for a token to shower, did have potable water and a laundry area ( which cost extra again!! ) They are making money hand over fist for no real experience or anything to see, wasn’t even what I’d call walking distance to town. Keep driving

Free camp and great place to enjoy the peaceful nature, with plenty of parking options.
Facilities are run by ‘Penny’ cash so you must have your card to access these, everything you need including a laundry - cost for everything is minimal

Hipapatua / Reid's Farm Recreation Reserve Free Campsite
Reasonable place for a few nights and next to a stunning river.
Toilet block is in the day park area, so a bit of a walk - worst smelling long drops ,that singed your nostrils for the day and a few homeless looking people that left rubbish lying around.
Can get quite boggy after rain, so don’t park on the grass

Lovely quiet spot in the valley - different camp sites along the road , we stayed in the dog friendly area.
Only has a long drop toilet, no other facilities. Can get quite boggy as most of the spots are on grassy areas and the drive in has lots of pot holes

Ambiguous signage - one sign in car park stating overnight parking and another saying No freedom camping Beautiful place right on the lake, but a bit pointless having Penny cash showers when you can
’t stay, I wouldn’t drive out that way just to shower and then leave
