South Island ▷ Mount Cook - MacKenzie ▷ Lake Tekapo ▷
Big spot, room for maybe 50 vehicules.
Even if you get there late you could park in the middle. One long drop toilet with hand sanitizer.
I recommend parking the furthest from the road, close to fence, to enjoy the sunset but please don't park in front of the gate as farmer needs to get through
South Island ▷ Kaikoura Region ▷ Kaikoura ▷
Great location, clean toilets and cold outside shower.
Only a short walk to Point Kean to see heaps of seals. Only 6 spots so we got there early, was full by 2pm.
Only downside is that an idiot with a loud car drove past several times on purpose from 9.30pm, just to be annoying.
A very nice Freecamping Ambassador came by at 7pm to check everyone was self-contained and to remind that we had to leave by 7 am but that we were welcome to drive down to the other car park 1 min away to have breakfast there.
South Island ▷ West Coast ▷ Fox Glacier ▷
Good spot, the gravel road is in good condition but take your time.
Toilets are very clean, there is a double sink and sheltered picnic tables. You can access the beach directly and see seals if you walk all the way to the right where the rocks are (it's a fair bit of a walk but worth it). It's easier to take the grass path first then go down on the beach, less windy.

Great location, still lots of space when we arrived at 10.30pm after going to the Glow worn dell in Hokitika.
You can hear the road in the background and a roaster in the morning.
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Golden Bay ▷
Great spot, central location with clean toilets, water fountain, supermarket, playground, cafe, bar, and hot $2/2min showers within walking distance.
About 10 spots but people parked in the second row on both nights we were there.
It's max 2 nights stay, leave by 7 am, no one checked when we were there. Phone reception was good.
Fire station is very close by, so we got waken up by short and loud siren at 2am as it's volunteer run, and that's how they call them since they live in the village and not at the station. Don't stress if you hear it.
