North Island ▷ Ruapehu ▷ Tongariro / National Park Village ▷
We stayed here two nights (before and after the crossing ;)).
Nice secluded campervan sites. Due to the high hedges, you cannot really see any of the mountains, but we saw the beautiful top of Ruapehu mountain from our spot. Drop toilets smelled but were clean enough. About a 20 minute drive to the carpark at the end of Tongariro crossing.

We loved it here.
The powered sites all have their own -private' feeling (hedges between neighbours). Everything is very clean (toilets, showers, kitchen, pool,...). The people are very very friendly and it was just very good experience. Also very close to city centre and the showers have one stall for disabled people.

Beautiful place near the beach (you just have to cross the road, we saw an amazing sunset).
Toilets were clean and could be flushed. Perfect starting place for a walk at the pinnacles the next morning

We booked this campsite thinking we would get a powered site, a dump station, drinking water, hot showers, wifi and a place to recycle our rubbish.
The only thing available was a powered site. Wifi and hot showers were only available if you payed extra, which seems a bit unfair as you already pay enough for your site. The location is beautiful though, and the long dump toilets were mostly clean.

Campsite was okay, but not very cosy.
You're very close to a lot of other campers. Staff at the reception were very friendly and helpful. Showers had a good temperature, but cooled for a moment when someone else started

Beautiful campsite, nice nature and clean flush toilets.
Sink with non potable water. Quiet, but you can hear the birds, sheep and roosters (especially in the morning). We did not see anyone from DOC to check bookings.

We stayed here on Sunday, so it was totally free until monday morning 9 AM.
We arrived around 17h30 and saw the large places were occupied by 17h50 (although smaller vehicles were also in the large places). Exactly as promised: free, drop toilets, sink with water and litter bin. If you want a flush toilet, you can go to clean public toilets on the other side of the station. You do hear some noise from the street and rail, but this is normal.

Beautiful campsite with access to and magnificent view on the lake.
The starry night was amazing. The toilets had a lot of flies and there were many mosquitoes. Very quiet.
