The Waihi Gorge Camping Ground is a huge grassy area with lots of rocky outcrops creating a terraced area with a stream running through the middle. It is a really sunny open space and is great in the afternoon. There are rubbish/ recycling facilities here. Please note that the surrounding farmland is private property.
To get here head out of Geraldine via Main Road North, onto Woodbury Road into Waihi Gorge Road.

Toilets are super clean, river nearby is warm and nice to swim unfortunaley no trouts to fish there, so that wohl 9/10
Our first camp out of Christchurch. Lots of room to camp with clean, flushing toilets. We had a great time exploring the river and the drive in, though a little long, was through beautiful countryside,so worth it. Definitely recommend.
This was a beautiful campground, it was a bit of a drive out of town but worth it. Huge camping area, we were the only ones there when we stayed. Beautiful stream that you can camp near. Clean, flushing toilets on each end of the campsite. We would definitely visit again.
Really nice doc site. Freindly manager. Clean toilets. Beautiful surroundings!
Very helpful, chatty lady host. Chose a nice spot for us with a view. Proper flush toilet was clean. Grassy areas and some have space for camp fire.
Yey! Finally a campsite which offers fire making options! We were so happy! Untill the rain began to fall... Nevertheless the campsite is well taken care of and has an fine toilet site. Good place to stay overnight.
Beautiful views, we especially loved how peaceful it was, I think there was only one other camper on the entire site! Easy self registration $8per person. Cool that there are fire pits which help to keep the sandflies away!
Beautiful spot by the river. Very friendly caretaker. Toilets flush and clean. Great spot for a night or two and close to town.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
