Great little spot just a few kms north of Franz Josef.
Easy to drive back and forth. Toilets super clean and DOC workers do come and service them. Sandflies and mozzys were annoying, but being next to water its expected. Nice covered table/sink area. If you’re going off peak, DOC pass works which is a huge bonus. Only issues were the road could be noisy at points and the mossy ground gets really slippery. Don’t wear slides and find that out the hard way 🤣

Amazing spot on the foreshore.
Magnificent facilities, all kept super clean by staff. Staff were so nice and helpful. Showers were actually hot which was glorious. $1 for 5 mins which was plenty of time. Proper kitchen area, nice break from the camping stove cooking. The DOC staff told us to see the glow worms which was spooky for the first part of the walk but totally worth it! Only meant to stay one night but the grounds were beautiful we rebooked a second night. If you’re going off peak, recommend staying with the DOC pass as its free for unpowered, $3pp for powered! Lots of really cool birds and wildlife! Go to ngukata bay to see stingrays and starfish!!

Nice campsite, plenty of space to park - though most spots aren’t level.
Easy access from the roadside. Very short walk towards the (temporarily closed) Blue pools. Nice wind shelter to cook and clean dishes in. Flies were at a minimum but still annoying. Issues - 4G tower (new?) is very very loud at night when the generator kicks in. Park accordingly.

Really nice spot by the river.
Lots of space, particularly private space, but a bit confusing driving around knowing what was for campers and what was for people just fossicking. Toilets were clean but very very spooky at nighttime so worth going in pairs. Flies were soooo annoying and go bitten a lot even with bug spray. Bit further down a gravel road than we would have liked but it was free on the DOC pass off peak so pretty decent and worth it

Small campsite located near the lake.
Toilets are a bit of a trek, and very spooky at night so take a second person if you’re particularly spooked! Lights in the bathroom and flushing toilets that were well maintained!
Lots of boats trailers driving around. Only ones in the site due to being out of season but meant plenty of space to park! A few little walks nearby. Lake was gorgeous when boats weren’t zooming around.

We stayed on the powered site for this campsite and I wouldn’t recommend it!
There was no major problems beside the main road/logging access road which was very noisy. There was 2 toilets and only one shower so can imagine its chaos in the busy summer months. The shower you pay $1 for “hot” but it was lukewarm and struggling at times. The bathroom was open air practically which was jarring in the cold evening. Lady at check in was so so lovely and the little coffee truck was great! Office does close early so get coins for shower beforehand. Nice walks and gorgeous river to swim in. Would camp here again, but in the unpowered section which is off in the forest.

Nice little spot near wanaka!
stayed here a night for 11$pp which isnt bad considering there are flushing toilets, water tap (non drinking) and beautiful scenery.
The more permanent camping crowd gave off a weird vibe but were harmless.
