It’s an interesting unsaved road into this campsite but fine for our escapecampervan.
We’d been warned of some cows but didn’t come across any. The beach is perfect for skimming stones. We only did the short forest walk and not the steep climb to the tree lines. A few bugs, some persistent bees.

The road up is quite dusty with some uneven surfaces but wasn’t a problem for our escapecamper van.
The lake is beautiful and there are lots of places to park with great views and really peaceful. The walk around the lake itself was shorter than the displayed time. No phone signal at all.

Stayed here for one night, it’s a nice campsite but the toilets were filled with dead bugs - they covered the floor.
It’s incredibly close to the blue pools and a peaceful spot. We had a 30-day DOC pass so cost wasn’t a factor.

Loved this spot, loads of little nooks to park up.
We had a 30-day DOC permit so cost wasn’t a factor.
Toilets were quite simple but clean.
The beach was beautiful and had a great walk to Bobs Bay.
No phone service except right on the beach closest to the QTown side.

The price for this campsite was fair, it’s a short drive from Wanaka and a great spot before heading into Aspiring.
Quite a lot of space by the river with some big trees.

Stayed in this free campsite on two occasions.
Loads of space - but some big caravans all about. Our smaller camper found a nice spot by the toilets. We enjoyed a short loop walk up a nearby hill to see the surrounding views. The toilets were ‘okay’, but dark and a little broken. The bins wer sadly overflowing on both stays. But, we did stay twice so it’s in a great location, there is space and it’s safe.

10/10.
Worth the cost. You need to stay at least a night if heading all the way to Milford Sound. The campsite has a beautiful forest, adorable Wekas everywhere. The indoor cooking and relaxing space is great - loads of toilets and showers. We splashed out on a meal at the lodge and had the vegan dishes - expensive but a nice treat.
You can walk to the boat tour dock from this campsite. There is a small coastal/forest trail which in the rain does slightly flood, we walked safely along the road. Parking in town was upwards of $20, there is limited free parking and you’d still need to walk 20 minutes to the boats.

A great free camping spot.
Only a short drive to the town in Lake Tekapo. It is just off the main road but we didn’t find noise to be a problem. The stars on a clear night are absolutely incredible.

This is a great spot!
Loads of walking options from the campsite itself so we spent a few days here. For some reason they’ve put the site in the one place you can’t see Mt. Cook - but the surrounding landscape is still incredible. Indoor cooking space was big and clean, toilets were good and clean.
Public shower a walk/short drive away, needs coins.

Stayed on this holiday park on the entry and exit to Milford Sound - loved it.
Really short walk to the town shops and a beautiful walk all the way around to the bird sanctuary. The indoor kitchen is great and cleaned really well. Bathrooms are spacious and the laundry facilities were really useful.

Beautiful cove and beach right by the camping area.
Loads of space and a great indoor cooking area. The road down is quite steep and windy - wasn’t too big of a problem for an escapecampervan.

Loved this camping spot.
It was one of the more crowded free-camping places we stayed, even in the off season. There is lots of space however the different areas are spaced at different levels of a big hill. We were able to park quite close to the loos (quite a few toilets and all clean) but it would have been a bit of a walk if we were higher up.
Amazing views of the lake and Mt. Cook.

I really enjoyed staying here.
It’s a short walk to town, our electric space was nice, quiet and close to the great bathroom and shower facilities. Sad that it is quite spenny.
