After a long day hiking around the Mackenzie or coming off the slopes, these pools are hard to beat. Use promo code RANKERS for 10% off, which helps keep us going too. Three pools at different temperatures, clean facilities, a steam room and sauna, and the mountains sitting right there in the background. It's a solid setup.

The price question comes up a fair bit in reviews. Some reckon it's slightly steep for what it is, others feel it's well worth it, especially with the all-day wristband that lets you come and go. My honest take: if you're there at the right time, quiet and at dusk with the mountains turning pink, you'll think it was a bargain.

I'd go in the evening if you can. The crowd thins out, the light is better, and there's something about sitting in warm water watching the sky change over Lake Tekapo that's hard to replicate. If you're visiting in summer, the stargazing add-on is worth a look too. Tekapo sits in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, which is a proper thing, not just marketing.

Tekapo Springs

Take some time out and visit Tekapo Springs.

Relax in luxurious outdoor hot pools, and take in the spectacular alpine backdrop.

Try the ice skating rink in winter on our international sized skating rink, or in the summer Dare to ride the Trippo water slide!

Tekapo is one of the best places to see the stars in the world! Tekapo lies in the very heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the largest of just eight reserves worldwide. Karl wanted to add a night time experience to complement the day time offerings of Tekapo Springs, and Tekapo Star Gazing was born, combining star gazing with soaking in the hot pools. This unique tour opened in 2017 and is the only guided hot pool and stargazing tour in New Zealand. It was recently a finalist in the prestigious South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards and provides an amazing experience for New Zealanders and international visitors.

An adrenaline packed snow tubing park is open seasonally (call for dates). Grab a snow tube and fly down the snow park. Great for fun for everyone. Tekapo Springs now operates New Zealand's first summer tube ride, making tubing a year round experience at Tekapo Springs.

Our boutique day spa offers a wide range professional massage and beauty therapy treatments (bookings essential).

The onsite cafe has some of the most stunning views in the region, with homemade food, fantastic coffee and a fully licensed bar.

Whether you're staying for a weekend, or just passing though, lift your spirits at Tekapo Springs.

  • After hiking around Mt Cook during the day, we had a wonderful time relaxing in the springs.

There are pools for kids as well as an adults only pool that stayed peaceful. They give you a wristband for the day and you can go back as many times as you like.

  • Three big pools, good price for the day and the mountains as a backdrop.

I wished I was there while it was snowing.

  • The hot spring was so relaxing and a ticket buys you access for the whole day (until they close at 9pm).

They have free showers as well and it is great to do after the Mt John Walkway.

  • Before I came here, I thought here is natural hot springs but it was not.

It is just a hot pool and not 'hot' for Japanese people who expected 'onsen'.

  • Pools could have done with a vacum (not clean).

To experience all attractions - pools, plunge pool, sauna and slide is overpriced in my opinion. Poor design, cannot see view while in the pools!! Amazing views if you stand up!!
