We've put our heart and soul into offering high-quality affordable campervans, coupled with exceptional personal service you won’t find with the big companies.
New Zealand is known as a nation full of independent small businesses - and we're one of them.
Founded by Andy (a tech entrepreneur from Devon, UK, with a penchant for campervans) and partner in all things Cindy (an Aucklander with a lust for travel), Epic Campers was set in motion after we swapped the London rat race for Auckland in 2015 and bought a campervan to explore our new home before starting jobs.
After renting out our camper AirBnB style, and spotting the big expensive vans of the best motorhome hire companies (and mostly underwhelming offerings of the affordable ones) we decided to take things from side-business to full-time gig after Andy's role came to an end in early 2018.
We're passionate about providing the best campervan experience at the best price by innovating, working smart and using technology to keep our overheads low.
We're excited for our journey ahead and equally so for yours too in this truly Epic country we're proud to call home. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have questions - we hope to see you soon!

My wife and I rented a campervan from Andy for our visit to New Zealand back in February.....we were lucky to get in and out of New Zealand before the COVID crisis started to lock everything down. Everything was great from the pickup to the return and especially everything in between. We had a great time and would highly recommend EPIC Campers as Andy is highly ethical and motivated to provide you with a great experience. The van was clean, efficient and we had zero issues during our trip. As a plus, after our UBER was late to pick us up Andy even delivered us to the Airport. Great Customer service.

We highly recommend Epic Campers!
We had an interesting vacation as we arrived to New Zealand on March 17th, when we still didn't even realize how the coronavirus would affect our trip and more importantly the world.. Anyways we had to make new arrangements just a day before we arrived and Epic Campers responded to our request quickly and they were very helpful, flexible and responsible as they complied with the instructions given by the government throughout the journey. For example, when picking up the van, instead of showing us in person how everything works, they kept their distance and sent us instruction videos they had just created for this situation. The van worked as promised, it was clean and just perfect for two people (renting the roof top box recommended if you have a lot of luggage).
So basically there are other places to rent a perfectly good van, but with Epic Campers you can trust that you are in good hands when travelling, we really felt that they cared for our safety and they were super flexible considering the circumstances we were all in due to the coronavirus. Thanks again Andy! :)

We rented a campervan from Andy & the team this year in March and the trip was the best experience of our life.
Our campervan Broadie was super reliable, absolutely clean and the best travel mate we could have hoped for. The Epic Camper team was always there to answer questions during the trip and we got some great advice.
If this Corona nightmare is over we'll come back to NZ and will for sure book with Epic Campers again.
We took our Epic camper for 3 weeks from Auckland down to Christchurch. From our first request for information through our entire trip, Andy was extremely responsive to our questions (and friendly!). He gave us a thorough rundown of the features of the van when we picked it up.
I was happy with the size of Betsy (our van) - it was large enough to sleep 2 comfortably, but wasn't so bulky or top-heavy that I felt unsafe on the NZ roads. The slide-out counter for food prep was a great use of space (especially compared with some of the other options we saw people fighting with at campsites). My only concern is that at 6'1" I had to crouch to see around tight right turns (otherwise vision was impared) - which got uncomfortable on some of the mountainous stretches.
We had a really nice time in our Epic Camper van! We loved the nice finishes of the interior, the lighting, the kitchen arrangement and the stylish exterior. The service was very good (clearly a family-run business that cares about its customers) and the van was clean when we got it. The vehicle was a bit run down (had to get tires changed along the way) and some of the storage space was hard to reach (a bit of a pain when there's so little of it). This seems to have been solved in the newer vehicles though (sliding doors on either side, better storage space, newer vans), so we'd definitely suggest to ask for one of the newer models! All in all a very good experience, we would recommend an Epic Camper!
Renting a van through Epic was one of the best decisions I made for my NZ trip. It was all slightly last minute and Andy was super accommodating, understanding and helpful in planning and getting it all sorted! Having a pickup/drop off in Christchurch made for an easy transition and the van itself was clean and functional and actually ridiculously comfortable to sleep in! Despite some pesky bugs on the first few nights camping in Arthur's Pass and a couple of rainy hikes, visiting NZ is up there with one of the best adventures I've ever taken. Traveling solo isn't for everyone and isn't always easy, but this van was the perfect thing to make it all come together. It was really good on fuel and super easy to put the bed up and down if you just wanted to sit rather than lay down for lunch and the weather was bad. NZ is amazing, the people are unreal and you feel like your constantly driving inside a postcard. I couldn't recommend Epic more, plus, the outside paint job means it actually looks quite groovy in pics. Thanks again team Epic.

Our experience of Epic Campers was awesome, from beginning to end. Andy was so helpful, right through from enquiry to saying goodbye to our beloved van, Phoebe. The vans themselves are great - they've clearly put lots of thought into the design of the interior, and the extra touches like the delicious coffee they provide, to the windscreen chip repair kit (which was an absolute lifesaver for us) make a big difference. Whenever we had questions, we got a reply straight away. We looked at lots of other hire companies and we felt that the pricing was very vague and what actual van you would end up with was a mystery - with epic campers you know exactly what you are getting, and the pricing is really clear. I couldn't recommend them any more.
I rented a camper from november till mid december! Despite the fact that its a little pricy (probably also because it was high season) it was totally worth it! Super clean van (and also brand new!!!), had no bad experiences whatsoever with the van in 1.5 months travel time (drove like 4500 km). Andy is a super nice guy. You can call him any time on his phone and you’ll get a legit answer asap! Frist time in NZ and my experience could not have been better! Cheers to you Andy ✌️

Just wanting to thank you Andy and the team at Epic Campers for the use of Bessie, a fantastic little camper. We had a great time. We loved the fact that Bessie was smaller than most campers but definitely large enough to provide us with a very comfortable home for our 10 nights. She had plenty of room, was great to drive and easy to park.
I sincerely hope that Epic Campers survives the world shutdown of tourism due to Covid-19 as they certainly deserve to. Their level of service stands out way above other companies and they have done a fine job of converting their small vans into very comfortable campers.
I did a lot of research and read many reviews by fellow travellers before booking my van for a three week solo adventure. I am so pleased that I decided to choose Epic Campers. They exceeded my expectations and I wouldn’t consider any other company for future travels in New Zealand.
Andy, the owner, genuinely cares about his clients and does everything he can to ensure a memorable road trip. He is easy to communicate with, both before and during your van rental, and thorough in acquainting you with your home on wheels before you head off. The interior layout is cleverly designed, thoughtfully considered and easy to live in. My van “The Voyager” was spotlessly clean inside and out. It’s compact design wants for nothing and is very easy to drive on New Zealand’s winding and sometimes narrow roads and to park.
The bed, which converts to divan seating, is very comfortable and all the linen and kitchenware is of a high quality. Everything you would need for cooking is supplied, including a very efficient double ring gas cook top. A big plus above other similar sized rental vans is having the interior table. It is so very useful when the weather is inclement and for night time activities.
If you are looking for a small self-contained van to tour New Zealand and have found Epic Campers, consider yourself fortunate. They are definitely the company to book.
After we've read the references of three campervan companies which offered us a van for a cheap price we almost cancelled our plan to rent a vehicle in NZ as the comments written were mostly bad.
It looked like the chance to have a good experience was around 50/50.
Then Andy from Epic Campers sent us a very kind message with an offer that was a bit higher than the other three mentioned above. But after comparing references and vehicle we realized that
renting a van from Andy will assure a positive renting- experience. And it truely was like that.
As my wife and me traveled with our few month old daughter he offered us the Toyota Hiace which is slightly longer than his other campervans and in this van it is also possible to put a baby seat in the front. The bed was very comfy and the vehicle was equipped with everything you need for sleeping, cooking and washing dishes.
The vehicle was in a very good shape and it was a pleasure to drive it.
As it's a small company you've direct contact with the owner (Andy) who is a sympathetic guy taking good care of his
If you're looking for a hassle-free rental don't hestite to go for Epic Campers. In case the offer should be higher than from other companies don't worry because you get what you pay for.
I recommend to have an insurance that covers the excess of his insurance. We had a chipped stone in the windscreen and signed only for the basic insurance of Epic Campers.
We payed Andy for the damage and reclaimed the cost succefully from our travel insurance (Zurich). Make sure that they also cover campervans/motorhomes.
Great little camper! We had an Epic Camper for 2 Months everything worked perfectly. Cooking facility that pulls out the back is great quality and is so ideal, life made so easy (great crockery to!). Andy is super helpful and prepares everything for your arrival! Not far outside auckland airport quick Zoomy/taxi to collect your van. Couldn't recommend Andy and his Epic Campers enough.
We hired an Epic camper for a month, Auckland to Auckland. The campervan is wonderful. So cleverly designed, with love and care. It is a great size, small enough to be easy to drive, yet the design makes use of the limited space fantastically. Great kitchen, cooking setup, really comfy bed and just about enough storage. We had the most amazing time and our Epic camper made it perfect.
