  • This company is in liquidation.

You can read about how much debt (300k appr.) they owe on the New Zealand Companies Office Website by searching the companies register using the name The Bus Haus Ltd. Director Michael and Shareholder Svetlana Simmonds are also not allowed to use the liquidated company name The Bus Haus Ltd to earn revenue. They also own Smart RV Ltd, not to be mistaken with Smart RV.

  • Just letting everyone know that the workings at the Bus Haus are still far from sound.

    Hi guys

I paid a deposit of $16,000 in July 2015 with a promised delivery of the van Nov 2015. When it had not arrived I agreed to pay a further instalment (aprrox $15,000 to both Michael and his van painter) on the promise that I would receive it by Christmas. When it was still not ready, Michael lent me a van to use on vacation. On my return Feb 2016 it was still not ready and I informed him that I would not return his borrowed van until mine was finished. Fast forward 1 year and I have received neither my van nor a refund and only have an unregistered/non warranted van as security, along with two other vans "registered" under my name which I have never seen and have later found out are worthless from a legal ownership point of view. To Michael's credit he sometimes takes my calls although only to give me more empty promises. From following other cases it is clear that Michael Simmonds will only attend to whoever is making the most noise and is in the strongest position to liquidate his company through a Court Order. I advise all readers to steer well clear of this operation until the company is financially stable and have no further court cases pending.

  • This company is really just a 1 man band named Mike operating out of Papakura outside Auckland.

Throughout the hire period we had various issues with the van including the blow off valve not working limiting the power supplied to the engine, no jack in the van, a slow puncture which he later admitted being aware of (he “thought it would be ok”), a faulty alarm which kept sounding for no reason and the engine warning light constantly flashing.

A few days before we dropped the van back we called Mike distressed because we had accidentally caused some damage to the roof. As it was nothing major he wasn’t too worried. We understood it would mean a delay in receiving our deposit back to allow him time to have the damage repaired and this would be deducted from our deposit.

1 month later we called chasing our deposit and he said he had to get a quote for the works as is "standard procedure"

Another few weeks past and he told us the works were being done and he would have it back in 8-10 days.

Having already been evasive and after many unanswered calls it became obvious he was completely ignoring our calls, emails and texts.

Finally, in August, we managed to get hold of him by calling from an unknown number. He confirmed the works had been done though would not confirm how much they had cost but said he would send through our deposit and an invoice for the works the following day. We didn't receive either and he then blocked my number.

Finally, in September 2016 (5 months after returning the van) we emailed him threatening to file a formal complaint against him and his company. He then sent us $400 back from our £1000 deposit via bank transfer despite having originally informed us in May that the damage, being minor, should cost between $300 and $400 at the max.

I have since seen similar reviews on Tripadvisor where people are still trying to get their money back from this man months later.

It is not worth risking your money with this "company

  • I am owed money from Simmonds / The Bus Haus after sending funds across to purchase a vehicle.

We are working on getting the money repaid as soon as possible. I will update this as new information comes in.

UPDATE: a van has been transferred into my name until the money is repaid.
