Visitor centre is definitely closed (as of today Dec. 6th, 2016). This is still not on DOC website even though visitor centre was closed weeks ago... There is no DOC visitor centre left in Auckland. You can call the DOC Parnell office if you need backcountry hut pass or tickets, someone will be there one or two days a week.
