The Christchurch Botanic Gardens, enclosed by a loop of the Avon River, sit on the edge of Hagley Park in central Christchurch near the historic Arts Centre buildings.
21 hectares of horticultural displays, conservatories, memorials, garden art and walking tracks make these easily accessible gardens worth some time.
The daffodils in spring are beautiful, and the lawns are a picnicker's haven on warm summer evenings! Keep an eye out for Christchurch city's various events held here throughout the year also.

Extraordinary gardens, went there beginning of February. You can easily spend 2-3 hours just walking around and discovering the local flora. Check out the begonias house. A must see if you are visiting Christchurch!

Large garden with a lot of possibilities to sit down, take a picture or walking with friends. We also tried a boat ride in the river next to the gardens.

The most beautiful place in Christchurch. I recommend to visit this place when you are in Christchurch. One of a few untouched places by the big earthquake.

Great place with an even better playground. From toddlers to 12 years. Great place. You can visit the gardens even in bad weather. Some are inside and very warm. But still..... you need to love nature. If you don't, spend your time somewhere else.

A very nice walk in the park. A great variety of plants if you are interested in botanics. Nice old trees.

Great gardens. Well designed. I always visit botanic gardens whenever I travel to get an overview of the country. This was interesting because they do not seem keen on weeding! Convolvulus, goose grass and other perennial weeds in evidence.

Pleasant place for a picnic or a stroll. Nice rose gardens, open greens and some smaller rivers and lakes. Nicely kept.
