Battle Hill is a popular location with limited space, so make sure you book ahead. Fires can be lit on concrete fire pads outside fire bans, a very popular way to spent the evening. Enjoy!

Pretty standard campground. The site was a bit dirty with rugs, wood shavings, and beer cans on the concrete fire pads. Good toilets. Price was a bit much I thought.

8 NZD pp, No shower, think that’s a bit much. But the campsite was fine. A large area with fire places and a small river to cross. Nice little walk up battle hill.
Public toilets weren’t clean.

Good location on the river! The toilets were clean. There was drinking water filling station but no sink for washing dishes. There was no trash bins.
It was a really steep climb, but through lovely peaceful scenery. Informative displays full of history. The view at the top was very nice, but it was so windy! Sheep poo everywhere!
The forest in the beginning of the walk was nice and gave the feeling that you were really deep in the forest although it got ruined from the noise of the highway. A very nice view at the top and always nice to walk among the sheep but watch out for their poo that is everywhere!!
Lovely site! Bit of a difficult drive up but beautiful views on the way. No showers, but clean toilets with drinking water as well. It's fun seeing all the farm animals but as we came in early September most of the walking tracks were closed for lambing.
Overall very pretty and spacious.
What a wonderful location! Camping under the stars surrounded by happy, if slightly bemused-looking, sheep. You can make a campfire if you have the skills (bring firelighters, as the wood was damp when we arrived). Access from the north is via a windy and narrow hilly route off the SH1, which seems to never end, but has great views. Access from the south is much simpler. 45 minutes' drive to the Wellington ferry. Facilities clean. We paid $6 per person unpowered. Make sure to do the Battle Hill loop walk to the top of the hill. Stunning views and a bit of history on the way. Love this place.
One of the most beautiful cheap camp-sites $6 per person. Large area, picnic tables, fireplaces, beautiful countryside, sheep and horses around and all this just 30 minutes from Wellington.
