The thing is the location is awesome.
The rest is not so good. The facilities are old and run down. There is no bridge to cross the river to the beach meaning you have to get wet. No hot showers unless you pay, which for the price you'll have to pay is absolutely ridiculous. Also strange bans on a lot of things, no alcohol in fridges, no crayfish to be cooked, not allowed to pee when the cleaners are working with no other toilet available...

Based on prior reviews, I expected much more.
The cost is now $50 for 2 adults on an unpowered site. In addition, showers cost a dollar for 6 minutes. The buildings are run down. The bathrooms were not particularly clean nor the open kitchen area. No plates, pots, pans or cutlery were available. One of the 2 toasters didn’t work. Worst of all was the common lodge room. Very dirty with an empty can, various papers, food scraps, and puzzle pieces scattered all around the room's floor. Had to prop the door open because of the dank smell. On a positive note, the person who checked us in was very nice, and the setting by the ocean was pretty.

What a beautiful little spot!
We enjoyed the Waipatiki scenic reserve hike and the lookout hike nearby.
Unfortunately we didn't have the best weather when we visited, so our beach day didn't happen.
This campsite had a wedding the day before we arrived, so we didn't meet the owners, but we appreciated them letting us stay straight after such a big event!
The showers and toilets were clean.
And they have a little shop on-site, where you can buy drinks, treats and useful camping items.

We spent 2 nights at the park in our rental Maui Motorhome.
The hosts / owners Shane and Fay were polite, friendly and helpful. The park was basically empty during our stay - one campervan joined us for the first night but we were on our own during the next day and night. The kitchen and family bathroom was available for us to use. It was tidy and clean. The barbecue area and gas barbecue needed cleaning - I assumed nobody used it during the past month or two. We enjoyed the peaceful site and the views from our motorhome. We went for long walks in the forest and enjoyed sunset and sunrise at the beach. Will visit again

Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park is a must stop if you are passing through the area.
The cabins are cozy and have everything you need for a comfortable stay, with fabulous views. The beach is just beautiful, there's lots of walking tracks and Napier is a short drive away. It's a peaceful spot and the campground is clean and tidy. Shane, Faye and their family are wonderful hosts.

We checked in with the owners daughter who we think was too young to be left in charge because she was unable to give us relevant information.
Eg where to fill our water tank, how to get to the beach. A storm had heaped up sand so the river was backed up making it difficult to get to the beach.
The site facilities were great and very clean. The owner was extremely helpful when we had major problems with our camper van letting me use his phone to seek help. Also he helped us to temporarily repair the van so we could take it to a garage for a permanent repair. We were impressed with his attitude and skills.

A small hidden paradise.
Beautiful ride into the Bay. Warm welcome by the new owners who started to upgrade the campground. Warm showers and clean kitchen area. Beautiful white sandy beach. Nice lay-out of the campground and spacious powered lots with nice sea view.
Real value for money at only $13 per person for a powered lot.
Super quiet.

We’ve stayed here in December 2017, just before the holidays starts so it wasn’t busy.
Beautiful place next to the beach. Friendly staff. Nice pitches with oceanview. The showers and toilets needs renovation. It wasn’t very clean but that won’t hold us going back sometime. We travelled with a self contained camper.
