Hot Water Beach Campsite

Relax in the natural hot springs in Te Rātā Bay. Enjoy water sports or explore the tracks in other areas around Lake Tarawera.

The extra effort is rewarded with a great outlook and nearby hot springs. The Hot Water Beach Camping ground is VERY popular during the summer, so have a plan 'B'.....

Quite an intense hike to get here but well worth it!

(Water taxi available). Beautiful forest all around, and of course plenty of hot water. Site is quite sheltered from the wind while also being right on the beach.

Toilets were clean but seemed to all be out of toilet paper. There is a shelter for cooking too (just a table and a roof, no sinks or tap) which is about as clean as you'd expect being out in the bush with plenty of wild chaffinches and other birds ruling the roost most of the time. Ground was a bit tough on my chosen tent site, one or two bent pegs as a result.

It’s a pretty nice campsite and well worth the four hour walk.

There is no running water, but the hot springs and the view make up for it. Campsite and long drop toilets are clean.

    Nice campsite.

We hiked in (around 4hr) and booked the water taxi back. It was late June and we happened to be the only people that night so that changes our perspective quite a bit as we're told it gets pretty crowded in summer. Nice hot pool and clean toilets too.

Boat Access only, been there twice and it is a really nice spot.

Toilets are composting type and can become a bit smelly during summer when there are plenty of campers. Not a big camp ground and is very popular in summer months and can become a bit over populated. However it's a great spot and will be back again.
