The Pioneer Park Camping Ground is situated in a large open, sunny grassy area surrounded by trees. You can tuck into the trees if you need more shelter - there are a few clumps in the middle of the campsite as well. There are recycling and picnic facilities on site. There is a small shelter as you come in which is a small homestead.
The easiest way to find this campspot is to follow Gudex Road off SH79 (23km from Geraldine), then turn into Middle Valley Road. Turn into the iron gates to get to Pioneer Park.

difficult gravel access, 2 smelly toilets + 1 sink, campfire allowed, don't know for what we paid 16$

The worst campsite that we used all of our time in NZ. The road there was terrible, gravel is fine; but there was a stream with boulders the size of your head that needed crossing before getting to the campsite. No running water and smelly long drop toilets.

Hidden in nature, friendly staff, beautiful location, two trails, toilets could be cleaner.
I loved this campsite. I was there beginning of December and it was so quiet. Picnic tables and fires places available. The toilets smell bad but they were clean and there was toilet paper. There are also some hikes to do from the campsite. It's a 20 minute drive offroad. $8 per person.
Really nice place with a lot of trees. A tap and 2 toilets (very smelly!). Quite far from the road so it is really quiet. $32 for 4 people. Some sandflies and mosquitoes.
Such a nice little campsite in a quiet meadow surrounded by forest. It has couple of picnic tables, campfire pits and a toilet (with toilet paper!). Quite far off the road, but this only made it more peaceful.
Few travellers, quiet place, surrounded by the forest, toilet clean.
Beautiful site. Handy clean toilets. Plenty of water (boil first) nice and flat with lots of spots and very handy walking tracks.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
