Stayed one night on the ocean side. Had great facilities and can’t beat the location. Just a few feet from the trail around the mountain, shops and restaurants within walking distance and the beach just a minute or two walk away. Sits we’re a bit tight, but not bad. Only complaint I have is the online booking doesn’t let you pick a specific site, so I just kept making requests until I got a spot I was happy with. Overall great spot and we will be back!

Expensive, but the location right between the beach and the mountain is awsome!
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Couldn’t find the entrance initially (it’s at the beach end, not port end). Guy at check-in was really friendly and gave us a fantastic spot just below the mountain with an excellent view of the beach. Lots of walkers heading up the mountain in the morning, but not too early. Showers were hot, but you need to constantly press the button (no biggy!). Tried to use the dump station for grey water in our section, but it didn’t reach, so had to drive down to the main camping area. Campsite is an excellent location with the town, beach and mount within walking distance. Would recommend!

Great site, right next to the beach and the Mount, fabulous location. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby and a real upmarket cafe culture feel to the place. Excellent bus service into Tauranga. Stayed here for the very first Test match and the Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui. Lovely helpful staff on site. My only criticism is no wifi? You may think that's a good thing but for me it was definitely a negative.

Really nice camp ground. Right at the base of mount maunganui and close enough to the town shops cafes etc. I got non powered site(1 person) for $30 And with that you get into hot pools at cheaper rate.

Fantastic location right under the mountain with walking paths going straight past between the park and the beach, and lovely salt hot pools next door. Sites are a bit tight. This park is Council run which is a little different and shows in the customer service. Some of the people with caravans were pretty selfish parking both their van and vehicle plus having a big awning out in their site - we had one big vehicle parked ~80cm from the door side of our motorhome and the staff did nothing about it. The facilities were clean, but the showers were pretty ordinary - no temperature adjustment, just a button for warm water with average spray and the button needs to be pressed every 9-15 seconds (yes I timed it because it was so ridiculous...). For the prices at this park, the shower system is really annoying and unnecessary - if you have to have the button, 40-60 seconds is reasonable, not 9. I would recommend this park for the location but beware this is not a quiet, relaxed kind of place. It’s on the edge of a high-rise accommodation precinct with restaurants, shops, cinemas, etc nearby and loads of people walking past. We enjoyed the location for something different but prefer other quieter locations in NZ and would not stay here for an extended period of time.

Great ocean views if you get the right spot. I went off peak & got good site for $27 on own with power. Showers are on very short timers (like 10sec) but i was close & had sea views each visit so very happy. Very nice kitchen too.

This must be one of the most modern camps in NZ. Kitchens and toilets are spotless. The sites are relatively small. We stayed two nights, the first site was an absolute beach front position and every site on that side was taken. We asked to move to the harbour side for the next night as there were far fewer people there. We were given a site with no immediate neighbors and a view of the harbour. Interesting to see the ships, including cruise liners coming and going.
