GreatSights review - my friend and I had a terrible experience with this company.
We had booked the Hobbiton and Te Puia tour. The Hobbiton tour, while an hour late of the three seperate arrival times we were given, was fine, and then we were dropped off at the tourism office to wait for our next shuttle to Te Puia. We had not received any instructions on who was picking us up or what we were supposed to do, but we were there half an hour early, 15mns earlier than instructed. At 15 minutes past the pick up time, we were starting to get concerned, as no one had called our names or indicated they were waiting to pick anyone up. At one point I went and asked a woman sitting in a bus if she was with GreatSights and she said no. After waiting a hour, I borrowed a stranger's phone and called the tour office. I was told that the bus had been there and had left after 10 minutes. It turned out, it was the lady I had spoken to but, for some reason, she didn't know who she was picking up or which company they were affiliated with. So, through no fault of our own, we missed the tour and are out quite a large sum of money as we have been refused a refund. The communication was very much lacking for both tours. It seems to me that all this company wants to do is fill their large busses with as many people possible and collect the money. It feels like the customer experience is quite low on their list of priorities. However, the good news is, there are a lot of other great tour companies in New Zealand which we had amazing experiences with, and they all give the same tours! I would try Get Your Guide, Viator or Flexitours, all very professional and knowledgeable.

We did the Mount Cook Day Tour: Queenstown to Christchurch tour.
They do not show the points as per the listed itinerary. Our driver was very rude and wasted 3 hours at Hermitage hotel because of which he did not stop at Lindis Pass, Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo and Church of Good Shepherd. There was no commentary at all during the tour. Whatever the driver spoke on the microphone was all muffled and we didn't understand a single word. The driver was more keen on halting at restaurants and eateries instead of stopping at the actual point of interest spots.
Worst experience ever had.
Please do not book their tours, its a waste of money and waste of time to go on their tours.

We did not only see Cape Reinga but also did some sandboarding, which was really fun.
Even though our guide was really funny, I did not like it that much because it was really touristic and more like you saw the place and in five minutes you were back at the bus.

Waitomo glow worm caves and Rotorua - return to Auckland.
Great way to see the landmark sights in one day, though it was a constant rush to get to the next venue because of the distance. It was worth it, they managed to fit plenty in. Very good quality food for lunch. Tour driver was very knowledgeable. The staff had arranged hotel pick up & drop off but arriving back after a 13hr day, they told me there was nobody to drop my 4 year old and i back to the hotel & we'd have to walk. A crappy end to what was a good day & very unprofessional on their part.

Driver came to our hotel 15 minutes early and left before we got there 10 minutes before assigned pickup time.
Check in person at the transfer spot was extremely rude and unhelpful. Our driver for the day "Eddy" was the highlight. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the route, noting lots of history. Overall the tour feels like a big cattle prodding exercise.

Avoid this company at all costs!
I had a scheduled tour at Rotorua, but the region was set to a State of Emergency with travel restrictions due to Cyclone Cook. When I told them I didn't feel safe and wanted to adhere to the government warnings to stay off the roads, they still refused to refund my tour. After that, they've completely refused to respond to my communications. An awful company that values cash over customer safety, even when their own government says it's unsafe.

This one day tour was pretty great, it showed us everything that it could of in the North in a day.
Kauri forests, museum, sand boarding, the Cape, a stop at a wavy beach, the 90Mile Beach and stops at two small towns for local food. But, maybe $115 was too expensive.

Sightseeing tour from Paihia to Cape Reinga and return.
Via 90 Mile Beach with sand dune riding. Spent 90^% of the time riding the bus, meal was excellent, sand boarding good, most of it was 'hurry up, get back on the bus, we must hurry'. Cost was over $300 - for a huge bus ride.
