Craters of the Moon
Located just north of Taupō, Craters of the Moon is one of New Zealand’s most fascinating geothermal short walks. Set within the Taupō Volcanic Zone, this unique environment reveals the powerful forces beneath the earth’s surface through steaming fumaroles, and dramatic geothermal craters.

Loved this park.
One of my favourites in the North Island. Loads of trails (probably need more than a day to see them all), very well marked and signed.

Trails for all abilities. Well worth the $10 visitor pass.

During the 90 minute walk you get an impressive overview of different geothermal activities (mud pools, blowholes, craters).
Nice price/performance ratio.

The walkways are mostly brand new and guarantee an easy walk. $8 is fair for what you get. Nice staff, welcoming you, clean toilets and a sweet gift shop.

Nice walk for $8, very welcoming people at the entrance.
It is a 45 minute walk in the centre of many volcanic activities. But not so impressive for us after other places in South America.

The price is okay ($8), it is interesting to see the fumeroles, the walkway/path is very well maintained, but on the whole nothing extraordinary.
