The camper van we rented was a little worn, but well tended. Graham and Susan were great, getting us to and from the airport. Like their website says, everything needed was included in the charges and there were no surprises there. We would definitely rent from them again,

Susan and Graham are running the most honest car rentals we have ever experienced in our travels around the world. They are offering fair deals and moreover they take plenty of time to explain the campervan and to give answers to all our questions even when calling during our trip. The campervan was equipped with we need four our long trip in Newzealand and was a cozy mobile home. The campervan comes with cutlery and dishes as well as towels and duvet including liners. We especially valued their flexibility to our travel schedule and we very grateful for the transfer to and from the airport. This the campervan rental company you wanna go with if you appreciate fair conditions, honesty and reliable campervan.
We want to point out the warm welcome and helpfulness which made our trip unforgettable.

Thank you for the amazing campervan experience in NZ!
Graham and Susan were so friendly and the personal contact via email was excellent. We got all the information about the camper and interior that we needed for planning our trip with our little one. Furthermore, they helped us to optimize our route. Graham picked us up at the airport and went through the paperwork without any waiting time (that you normally have with other companies). The explanation about the van was detailed and he and his family are so welcoming and friendly. We even got some food for our hungry baby. During our travel we contacted Graham twice due to punctures and it was uncomplicated and excellent. The van was running fine for our whole travel and we enjoyed travelling with a non-labeled van. We named the van “old lady” and didn´t want to return it. We felt so much at home (also our little one) and had a wonderful time in NZ. We could recommend Campa South and would definitely book the van again with them.
I would highly recommend Campa South.
My wife and I chose Campa South because we were wary of scams and overcharging that we had heard of with some hire companies from time to time.
We wanted to be certain of what we were paying for at the outset. We didn't want to encounter any hidden charges.
We found the online reviews from previous Campa South customers very reassuring.
We liked the fact that Campa South is a small local family run business. it was nice to have that personal contact with the business owners that a family run business can provide.
Graham and Sue were extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. They were happy to pick us up at our motel on time and went through the paperwork and familiarisation with our van in a thorough in a short timeframe. There was no waiting around for anything. The terms and conditions were straight forward and very reasonable.
Although our van was not the latest model, it didn't miss a beat.
Graham encouraged us to contact him if we had any problems along the way or didn't understand how anything worked on the van.
I was confident from the online reviews that he would respond quickly if any mechanical issues arose.
The price for hire in the peak season was very reasonable and we liked the fact that it included items like a table and chairs, toaster, kettle and extra blankets at no extra charge.
There were no hidden costs. All we needed to do was to provide a receipt that we had filled the gas bottle at some point during the trip, return with a full fuel tank and give the van a tidy up and sweep with a broom and that was it.
We intend to do a trip around the North Island in the near future and will use Campa South once again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Campa South to anyone who is looking for a budget priced van. We found the Toyota van with a high top gave us roominess and comfort and yet we could manoeuvre anywhere that a family sedan would go. The smaller van worked well for us.
We Booked a 2+1 berth camper-van from CampaSouth based on online reviews. If there ever was an example of the internet hive mind working well, this is it! The company is absolutely brilliant. I will not go on and on, as there are plenty of details in the other 10 star reviews.
What we liked most is:
1. Excellent communication, with great response time from the owners.
2. Incredibly friendly and genuine people.
3. We picked the van up in Auckland, and the process was smooth and pleasant; the van, though old and with incredible mileage, was a joy to drive and live in.
4. No logos on the van meant that everywhere we went, we were treated as locals. Most people renting a camper-van will do so before they arrive in NZ, and I didn't quite realise just how important a point this is. The country is full to the brim of heavily advertised vans, and it gets annoying fast. You really don't want to be the one driving the immediately recognisable rental van. Great on Susan and Graham that they keep their vans ad-free!
5. The van was so well taken care of. Despite the mileage (441.000 on ours when we dropped it off), it took the 4000+ km we threw at it with aplomb. The engines are bullet-proof, and the interior is well thought-out and well maintained. And, just as importantly, the vans are full of charm. We named ours Ciccio, and we miss it!
6. Price-quality ratio is unbeatable.
7. There really are no hidden costs. Graham and Susan are, to put it mildly, very reasonable when it comes to what they count for insurance purposes. If you rent with them, you can trust that you are renting from very honest people.
Thanks a lot for this unforgettable trip, one of the best we've ever done! Greetings to Ciccio, and happy travels for as many km still!

Just finished up an incredible 4-week tour around the South Island and we couldn't be happier with having chosen Campa South as our first choice rental company.
We had a small reservation before booking due to the age of the vehicles (circa early 2000s), but went ahead based on other Rankerz reviews. We needn't have worried! Our camper performed brilliantly, and Graham and Susan provided a first class service to get us underway (again, thank you for the "Windy" app tip!).
The van handled everything 3000 km of NZ road tried to throw at it with aplomb - 20% gradients, lots of hairpin corners, long corrugated gravel roads and busy city streets. All with a reasonable fuel economy and small turning circle. Good as gold!
Driving aside it was also a pleasure to live in the camper for a month. The HiAce model meant we could stand inside without any issue (I'm 6ft 1") - good for changing clothes and repacking bags for the day.
The interior kitchen allowed for meal prep even if it hammered down, and came with little extras such as a chef's knife, french press and even microwave! Additionally, the fridge was able to run for a day off the battery (separate from the engine), and wasn't too nosiy. We were also able to charge all our batteries via USB each evening/night off the same battery.
The backseat+table area was easy to configure for eating/sleeping, with plenty of storage for backpacks and other bits. We could open the boot to enjoy unimpeded views from bed! Some windows had fly screens on to allow fresh air in even if the sandflys we're lurking outside.
In fact, the only negative we experienced is that the sound system in the camper wasn't great, with no Bluetooth or aux-in (we could find). So road-tripping to your own personal jam means bringing along a portable speaker. But it's a minor issue and one that didn't detract from our experience.
We hope to be back very soon for more adventures around NZ with CampaSouth!
We had an amazing new Zealand experience and that's thanks to Graham and Susan who went above and beyond to find us a van with very little notice in the busiest time of the year - he even drove from Auckland to Christchurch to make sure we'd get it on time!
The van was perfect and well mantained and we made the most out of it thanks to many of Graham suggestions on the South island.
They will genuinely look after you during your stay in NZ and I can't recommend them enough.
Last but not least, we were happy to find out that part of their proceedings goes to charities - we wish they were more businesses like this!
Campa South Rentals responds:
Hi Marco, you and Tiphane were welcome. We're are so glad you both had a great time in NZ. Ha ha...yes, my long drive from Auckland wasn't planned but due to a cancellation your van was stranded there so I did what was necessary to ensure you got your camper as promised.
You are quite right about our gifting of funds and also time. Campasouth has helped with the construction of a Kindergarten in Zimbabwe both through labor and materials, development of an English language school in Laos and a girls orphanage in northern India. Campasouth also provides for the support of two foster children. One in India and the other in Pakistan.
We hired a van with Campa South during the month of November 2018 and absolutely loved it.
- Safety&Kindness : throughout the trip, we really had the feeling we were in good hands. I think when you rent a van you first want to feel safe, and that's how we felt thank's to Campa South owners (Graham&Susan) and Graham's brother Bevan. If we had a problem with the van, we knew that we could really rely on them and that's priceless.
- Great van : outside the van, no tags or brand on the van (simple white van). Inside, the van had a lot of storing space and every thing you need to live (toaster, heater, kettle, gas cooker, cooking tools, cups&glasses, plates, forks/knives/spoons etc, cooking tools, camping table and camping chairs for when you want to eat outside, flashlights, cushions, duvets...).
- No hidden cost : honest people.
For all of these reasons, we would recommend to anyone to pick this company to hire a van. The vans they rent are great and well arranged and they are such kind and lovely people. Enjoy your trip!
Campa South Rentals responds:
Hi Claire, so nice to read your review from your trip with us. Wow, it's been a while since you were here but it seems like just yesterday...time flies by so fast. Thanks for using us for your van hire and we hope you come again to NZ. Bevan has returned to Australia for a while to visit his family there but will be joining us again next season to help with campervan preparation like this year.
