The company is absolutely excellent and extremely friendly in dealing with requests. Once we decided to go with them as they had the best price by far and lowest excess, their service again was excellent throughout. In addition they have 2 cute dogs who are very good at doing tricks! Thank you campa south

Probably the best campervan rental company in NZ. Small family owned business. They don’t take big bond on credit card or rip customer off. Extremely satisfied with our rental. They have a bit older cars but well equipped and in super conditions! Owner is super friendly and even drive you to airport!

In researching and reaching out from the Pacific Northwest to New Zealand,
Graham and Susan at Campa South Rentals proved to be reliable, reasonably/competitively priced and resourceful.
We rented the 2008 Nissan Vanette Self-Contained Sleepervan for its unmarked, unadorned, plain, straight-forward and reliable drive to freedom camp in New Zealand. Graham and Susan pinpointed the map to the wild South Island we were anticipating. Graham was clear about the mechanics of the Vanette and offered his direct telephone number if the squeaky fan belt squeaked longer than it should in the startup; his briefing was essential, comprehensive and honest and definitely enhanced our travel. Susan was efficient in the communication process throughout and even tucked in a vintage plaid wool blanket for extra warmth as the end of summer was nearing. The best stargazing was over the moon with that wool blanket thrown across our shoulders. The wide boxy windows offered views of the boastful night skies. While watching sunrises standing just outside the Campervan, under the back hatch made for the perfect covered porch and making a pot of pressed coffee. The well packed kitchen was an ease for picnic suppers of lamb sausage and burgers, rice curries and those crisp local carrots. The chilly bin was perfect for packing ice and cold ginger beers. The compact size of the Vanette offered the freedom to explore the South Island coastlines, to drive the valley toward Mt. Cook and to freedom camp at ocean shores and watch the cows come home at the tide lines.
On our last day, we lingered at Birdlings Flat just south of Christchurch on Banks Peninsula to watch the rocks tumble from the wash of ocean waves. It was on the second day, we named this straightforward and worthy of adventure van, “Scout”. Scout made the best traveling companion to see New Zealand!

I found Campa South on Rankers, and selected them since they were a small, family-owned company. The van was older than I thought it would be-it only had a tape player and radio in it! At least there was a USB plug to charge your phone. It ran fine but minor things were broken, like the bolt that held the table in place and one of the electrical outlets. You also couldn't use the electrical outlets unless you were plugged in at a campsite. (Maybe that's normal?) The linens and towels they gave us were threadbare and the duvet didn't seem clean. The kitchen was well supplied with all you needed, however, and we slept fine on the good-sized bed.
Also, when going to drop off the van in Auckland, the directions they gave specified a petrol/dump station close by which we could not find. So we were hit with a 50NZD fine for not emptying the gray water.
We still had an amazing time and would love to visit New Zealand again!

Campa South Rentals responds:

Hi Miranda, thanks for the comments. Its great to get the feedback, as we aim to provide an excellent service to our customers.
You are correct, that the plugs do not work unless you are plugged in (and this is true for all campervans as the house batteries are not the same as mains power ie- 240v )
We are sorry you could not find the dumpstation, and will review the return instructions.
Thanks for travelling with us, and we are pleased you enjoyed your time here
Regards, Susan and Graham

My partner and I had an amazing road trip in the South Island and it was in no small part because of Graham and Susan and Campa South Rentals. They went above and beyond any vehicle rental agency I’ve ever worked with and it was clear that their main mission was to make sure that their customers enjoy their time in New Zealand. It’s important to us to support local, small businesses and we couldn’t have found a better one.

• The Standard Camper was in perfect working order and fully equipped for our trip.
• Graham made pick-ups and drop-offs from the airport easy.
• Booking and communicating with Graham and Susan was easy and fun.
• In addition to the van, they provided us with all the local information and apps we would need to have a great trip.
• It’s hard to overemphasize the peace of mind that came with knowing that it was Graham and Susan and Campa South Rental’s goal for us to have a good time. It felt like we had a few more local friends that were ready to help out if anything went wrong.

I will rent from them again when I go back for another road trip and I’ll recommend them to friends and family headed to New Zealand. All that said, my favorite part of renting from Campa South Rentals was what happened when we first arrived there to pick up our campervan. We were talking to Graham and he looked distracted for a moment and said, “Excuse me…” and then quickly corralled one of his horses that had mischievously gotten into feed he wasn’t supposed to be eating. I knew right then, it was going to be a great trip.

Where do we start! From the airport pick-up, to the drop off, Graham, Susan & their friend Steve couldn't have more genuine and helpful in ensuring our van trip to NZ was one to remember.

Coming from a small town ourselves, it was important for us to support this family owned business, rather than going with one of the "big guys". With family businesses, like Campa South, you can always expect a personalised service that goes above and beyond and this was no exception.

Our comfy little van had everything we needed for our 2 weeks around the South Is. It's in the extra detail of things like extra blankets, towels, chairs and tables that Campa South really makes you feel like your in a little mobil home away from away.

Thanks again guys! We'll hopefully be back soon :)

Wow! Just recently returned from our first trip to NZ. We were referred to Campa South from a competitor who was booked up for our dates. Had I known they provided the excellent service and value they do, I would have made them my first choice, as it would be pretty hard to beat. Clean, well maintained and reliable vehicles, that include all you need: chairs, table, cooking and eating ware, linens, maps, all in insurance, (and some local knowledge), all for a fixed price. The owners were flexible, and accommodating with our airport transfer schedule, with good cheer. Family fun business, no tacky labels on your vans. Highly recommend!!

Graham and Susan were very friendly, helpful and professional. The standard van suited us down to the ground and was just great on the roads, especially the narrow ones! The layout was good and came with a good range of crockery, cutlery and utensils.

Graham and Susan from Campasouth are lovely people who are really into their jobs: they have good campervans that have all the specs we needed. A good eye for detail: all you need is there: good sharp knifes, etc. The bed in the van was large enough for us Tall Dutch people to sleep on. The van itself was very handy: enough space for clothes and food, good lay out. We are NZ addicts and will contact Campasouth next time we travel there! Graham picked us up and brought us to the airport. Thanks very much!!!

Susan and Graham were brilliant, we loved our van and considering how late we booked - we were lucky to get one at such a reasonable price! Good, fast communication for booking and the lifts to and from Christchurch airport were really helpful. They run a well organised, experienced, professional service and reassured us that we could call them up with any questions whilst we were on the road. Our van had everything we needed and it really made our trip. I can highly recommend Campa South Rentals.

Holiday was simply fun,
in your happy camper van.

We were feeling waterproof,
under comfy higher roof.

We could travel at big seals,
quickly in home on four wheels.

We saved really lots of money,

We booked a camper van through Campa South Rentals. It was very easy to do this and the whole booking system went smoothly. Communication was excellent with Susan and Graham and they got back to us promply with any queries we had. We arrived in Christchurch one day before picking up the van and Graham was happy to come to our hotel to pick us up even though we were a distance away. That made it so much easier for us as we were new to the area. On our arrival back Graham also delivered straight to our hotel again. The information Graham and Susan gave us about the van and places we should visit was fantastic. Nothing was left to chance. The van was in great condition and very clean. There was everything in it that we needed and then some. The bed was so comfortable and we had no problem sleeping. Susan and Graham were so easy to deal with and they are so happy and friendly. Would certainly recommend them to any visitors to the South Island of New Zealand. Keep up the great work.

We hired a standard Toyota Hiace campervan for 33 nights North and South Island. The van was 16 years old and had done 260,000km before we started however it worked the entire trip and no flat tyres. The layout wasn't as pictured on the website however we placed our cases on the front seats when sleeping and kept the bed made up the entire trip. The good thing was that there was no signage on the van so many people assumed we were local. The poor score is because little things in the van needed improving. One of the burners on the stove didn't light without rolling a face washer and placing it underneath the knob to depress it. This is obviously a problem with Graham showing us how to do this with the face washer.. One of the chairs was broken and the torch did not work without buying a new battery. The portable toilet which we didn't use had not been cleaned properly from a previous user. One of the USB ports didn't work and the radio was so poor we didn't use it. The hose was split and we had to buy an attachment to get it to work. I had emailed Susan before the trip asking for 2 extra towels which she agreed to. Graham voiced his unhappiness in us having the 4 dollar towels as he wouldn't get them back as we were dropping the van off in Christchurch. Susan said Graham would help us with the itinerary but then said we would have to work it out for ourselves. This was most unhelpful. We have hired campervans previously that have been kitted out much better inside so I guess we expected better. Despite this we met people that had hired from other companies and their vans had broken down.
