What an appalling company to deal with (nelson airport). Rude phone manner, car wasn't full of fuel (about 150km driven on the tank), we were accused as liars when we bought it up. Tried to complain via the online webpage and the reply we got was an absolute joke! DO NOT RENT A CAR WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!! Worst experience ever. Not to mention being left in the sun with 3 little boys and them telling me they couldn't take me back to airport as they were waiting for someone (no one was there and my poor wife was left trying to check in with the kids). APPALLING

To save a few dollars we went with Apex. Went fine in Sydney. Went fine for a week in Auckland. Went fine for a week out of Christchurch ( overlooking the manky smell and wobbly tires). Little stuff. Totally ok. BUT on return to Auckland after calling ahead for a car, the third world manager cancelled our shuttle ride making us wait half an hour, then ignored us as we arrived at the counter and passed out keys to the two other customers, and finally said, "The computers are shut down. I cannot rent you a car." When my wife complained that we had arranged it by phone just a short time ago, he said, "I cannot listen to this - woman," and fled out the door. He clearly cancelled the car so he could leave early. Just cannot believe any company would place a man from a culture that clearly disrespects women in a customer service role.

Having hired Apex cars from Christchurch previously I was very happy to book in Auckland with this company. Having said that, from here on in the experiences were to be downhill.

Arriving at Auckland and waiting 45 minutes for the shuttle service was bellow average when market competitors had come a number of times over our waiting period. For those in a hurry this could be problematic. (fortunately we were not - however the couple waiting next to us had been waiting close to an hour).

Service was bearable and then we were introduced to our car. The car was still dirty with mud under the wheels and car body. Inside the car there was food crumbs from the previous person that had hired the vehicle - this is not an acceptable standard on its own right. Further inspection revealed that car had a pretty heavy chip on the windscreen, which could seriously become a travellers burden if the chip became a crack in which would need to be repaired - for me, I would not want to be spending my travel time repairing something that should have been amended previously.

Upon time to return the vehicle I had to drop off at an after hours facility, which is expected for some hire care companies. I had my hire car schedule to be returned at 6AM of which I had already paid all the appropriate fees and charges. Shortly after I received an email notifying me of an additional $30 charge for the early drop off, which had always been the case throughout the whole hiring process. - poor communication on there part.

Shortly after the first email I was notified of an additional $100 for excessive cleaning. Which given the fact the car did have dirt on it an some crumbs would be fair in most instances but to come from a company that leased a car that was so dirty inside and out I figured this was a poor form on their part.

Used previously, not using again.

Atleast the car was economical and had no mechanical fault

We hired a car from Nelson for a South island road trip, dropping off at ChCh over Xmas New Year. Really happy with the vehicle. Great price and never gave us an issue.

The check-in customer service is Nelson was the only negative. The transfer driver was great, but the check-in person was really unwelcoming, and clearly didn't want to work that day.

The ChCh checkout was a great customer service experience, including the transfer driver.

Will definitely use Apex again.

We found some important issues in the car we hire, some of them security related:

- the breaker were either worn-out or improper adjusted
- some of the wheels were close to their ending life
- the speed meter was wrong for almost 10 km/hrs (we could prove it using an app in our mobiles)
- the swipers didn't clean
- kids seat boosters were uncomfortable
- the car alarm didn't work
- the car had lots of dents, scratches, hits, chips. These made the car look bad
- the CUSTOMER SERVICE in Christchurch was terrible, rude attitude by miss Ivy Ding (who didn't want to tell us her name)

I don't recommend this company at all.

Very mixed experience. it started by having to wait more than 45min only to be then told that the translation of our drivers license is not accepted by APEX. We are holding a standardized EU license for more than 10 years and got an official English translation, which I requested from our government transportation department. But this was not good enough for this car rental agency. We then had to go to a local translation office, wait for 90min, pay 60 NZD/ license for a much worse and less comprehensive translation than the one we got from our government. This was just ridiculous and I recommend all people with drivers licenses from non English speaking countries to AVOID this car rental agency.
We finally got our car, which looked pretty banged up. While I was bit worried the big chip in the windscreen would further crack, the car eventually caused no issues on our trip from Auckland to Queenstown. so, that's a positive! Ferry ticket was organized by Apex and it was pretty convenient that we could take the same car to the South Island. Handover in Queenstown was quick and with no issues - and left me with the impression the Queenstown team might would have been friendlier and more accommodating than the team in Auckland.
