    Excellent Experience!

    When we started planning our New Zealand trip we reviewed car rental prices and couldn’t understand why Apex were so much cheaper than other more well known companies and that made us a little wary. However we found out that Apex cars are not normally brand new like most of the other companies use but can be four or five year old cars. Other than that everything on offer seemed to be as good as all the other companies. Opting to go with Apex for a six week rental literally saved us hundreds of dollars! We made a simple free phone call from the arrival hall and were picked up without any problem at Auckland Airport by one of their shuttle buses and taken to their off site location. Our agent was a very nice guy called Daniel who went over everything in our booking. We had already opted for a reasonable sized car, wanting some comfort for the many miles we were facing but Daniel suggested a slight upgrade to a larger vehicle. We initially thought “Oh here we go with the upsell” however this did seem to make sense and so we agreed to it. What a great suggestion and good decision, as the comfort and size of our car has been one of the unexpected highlights of our holiday, especially when travelling on some of the unsurfaced roads that you come across now and then. We looked forward to every journey and had plenty of space to transport our stuff around New Zealand. Yes the car is 4-5 years old but is in very good condition and had everything we needed. Thank you again Daniel you have helped to make our trip very special.

    (note, this particular car did not have a Sat Nav data card installed but we just connected our phone and used Waze instead)

    Apex also arranged our ferry crossing from North to South Island and included it in our rental at no additional cost and we were able to drop the car back at Christchurch Airport which fitted in perfectly with our travel plans.

    Our experience of using Apex Car Rental has been excellent

    I've rented from Apex before and they are very good.

    This time we rented a car for six days, pick up Christchurch, drop off Queenstown. The service at Christchurch was prompt and friendly, the same when we dropped the car off at Queenstown.

    The car we rented was a 4 year old Corolla that had done 95,000 kms. It was spotless inside and had a couple of hard to see scratches on the front bumper and the driver's door. It went perfectly the entire trip.

    Apex were nearly $300 cheaper than other well known companies. And also cheaper than some smaller companies who have a one way rental fixed charge.

    Thoroughly recommend Apex.

    Easily the best price by a long way.

    Easy pickup and drop off. Friendly staff and great shuttle service. Car was good too, no probs. Exceptional service from Christchurch airport depot after my husband realised he left his wallet in the console after being dropped back to the airport. We rang them they located the wallet, no problem for them they dropped the wallet back to him. Thank you Apex

    Service was good, however the Toyota rented to us was sub standard.

    The brakes screeched incessantly, the rear trunk door did the same, and most of all the AC did not work. I mentioned this to Apex and all I got was sorry about that, no offer of some compensation for their vehicle failure.

    have used their services b4, happy.

    this time, due to the omicron situation, we have cancelled out flights to QT, but couldn't locate mu rental car info. Today the friendly staff from Apex called, and i was willing to pay my penalty fees, as it's my negligence, however he said they understand, no fees! wow, i will certain rebook with them when i'm down there in Nov! thank you

    I am extremely disappointed with the Apex rental - already during the Apex shuttle transfer the Apex employee was in rush and because of this he throwed our suitcase out of the car - damaging it to unusable

    state. Everything was written officially written down in the office and Apex has acknowledge the unfortunate situation and promised a refund when we return the car. After we returned the car - Apex employees made an explicit and repeated promise that they will contact us regarding the refund within a day after our return. Not only they have not contacted us, but they completely ignored email requests for resolvement.

    Second issue was even worse - during a trip we had a defect (a Tire) - which, we know needs to be fixed/replaced on the driver's expense and we did so - however, we had an additional Road-side Assistance Insurence paid to Apex and when using it - followed precisely the instruction from the phone call - even so, we were asked to pay additionel large fee on the spot - with instruction that this will be covered by our Road-side Assitance by Apex after return of the car. Situation repeated - when we returned the car, presented all documents, Apex employees had made an explicit promise to resolve the refund day after the return - yet absolutely no contact month after - even after repeated attempts for communication - this is absolutely unacceptable.

    Situation now seems very clear - do not TRUST Apex employees, not over phone, not in person. Do not expect they will answer emails. Avoid this disastrous service and do not use Apex rental.

    Easy to book, pick up, and half the price of the other companies.

    Cars are sometimes a little beat up, but mechanically fine. Never had an issue, book everytime in Queenstown.

    I wouldn't rent with them again.

    I rented from Queenstown with a drop off at Christchurch Airport. My flight left at 8:35 am and on the contract said I was dropping off at 8 am. I assumed that there would be an after hours drop off since it is an airport location. When I showed up at 6 am to drop off car, I was met by a locked gate and no after hours information. I missed my flight and had to spend $745 for same day tickets on a later flight. I've never rented from an airport car rental with no after hours key drop.

    I felt as though Queenstown should have given me the information when I rented with them. When I contacted them, they didn't seem to care. I was hoping to inform them so others wouldn't experience what I did.

    I learned my lesson and next time will rent with Hertz or Avis, in the end, Apex cost me a lot more money and stress.

    We used APEX when we visited NZ in Feb/March 2023.

    First and foremost, there was nothing wrong with the vehicles that we were provided with on our journey between the South and North Island. They are slightly older than with other companies but they are still just the job. I would however say that APEX are very poor in terms of administration and communication. Users of the company need to consider this when booking. We booked a car from Greymouth to tour the South Island and the booking included a ferry journey to the North Island with our vehicle - paid for at the time of booking. After using the vehicle for over 2 weeks, we were about to embark on our journey to the ferry terminal at PICTON when we became aware of some problems with the ferries so we thought we'd give APEX a quick call just to be sure there were no problems with our journey across the strait. It was only when we did this that we found our that APEX had actually failed to book our ferry tickets anyway and there were none available for the rest of that day or the rest of that weekend. We were effectively stranded on the South Island with no accommodation booked and with the North Island leg of our journey about to be significantly impacted upon. We then spent several hours trying to resolve this problem caused by APEX and ended up organising a flight between Blenheim and Wellington for later that day and arranging a separate hire vehicle through APEX on the other side. We eventually resolved the problem and insisted APEX pay for these flights (which they did in fairness to them). But we can only be thankful that we had the foresight to ring APEX on the morning of our ferry journey otherwise we'd have turned up there and been turned away with no time to make alternative arrangements. This was very poor on the part of APEX and they let themselves and us down. Furthermore, we have sent a number of emails to APEX about this issue and they have not replied to a single email. That's very poor.

    Absolutely disgusting service, on booking my daughter got charged a $60 after hour fee as her flight didn’t get in until 10pm, the day before she was flying her flights got delayed by 2 hours then was

    charged another $160 after hour fee.

    I have used this company for years and have allways been very happy with them.

    Great value and service. But.... when booking through the Picton branch a few weeks ago I needed to change the pickup location.

    I rang the Picton branch, requested the change and asked if there was an extra charge. "If you've already paid, there's no problem."

    I was charged an extra $141!

    On calling the branch I was basically told that was not the conversation I had and was offered a 50% refund on the extra charge.

    I wrote to customer service - no reply. I emailed head office - no reply.

    Today I called customer service and was told there is no head office to talk to and I needed to settle it with the Picton office.

    Really guys? A very frustrated customer.

    We flew to Napier expecting a car at the airport as advertised.

    Instead we received an email the night before indicating a taxi to thier depot was required. $32 later we picked up the car. Had to arrange a friend to deliver us from thier depot to the airport. Not recommended, its a scam.
