If you are going camping in a van consider visiting the two charity shops in Glen Innes (Suburb of Auckland). We came away with very good pots, pans, duvet, wineglasses, etc at very good prices. We also bought a used single burner stove, but all the campgrounds have kitchens and most have BBQ's, so we haven't used it once!

went on the half-day afternoon walk, which was excellent and gave us amply enough time on the glacier. We'd booked the previous day, which is probably advisable. Personable guides (Jono and Tyler) who knew their stuff and made sure we all had a good time. We were glad we chose this rather than the more hectic Franz Josef glacier, and didn't miss doing the heli-tour which takes you higher - we got great views from the lower level we went to.

Had a Helihike booked in with Fox Glacier Guiding and as it was raining on the morning when we went to check in we were told it may be cancelled due to the rain! Which was fair enough! We were told the call would not be made until the time of the Helihike was due to start and to wait and some one would notify us. We waited for an hour and ten minutes until we had to go up again and ask what was going on! to be told it was cancelled! the girls at reception knew we were waiting and we were in full view! Thought this was poor customer service!
