We almost did not book this place because of the bad reviews, but it's a perfectly fine holiday park in a great city for foodies with extremely friendly owners.
Powered sites are spacious, surrounded by lots of big trees and facilities are very clean (bathrooms are a bit dated, but everything is well maintained and cleaned!). A countdown supermarket open until 10 pm daily is just across the street. The city centre with trendy bars, restaurants and shops is within walking distance (about 2 km). Only minus we noticed is that you have to pay for the BBQ sites. We were welcomed even after official check-in time (if you book online or call the reception will find a way to accommodate your needs).

Worst experience we've had during our 3 weeks road trip in New Zealand.
Incredibly unfriendly and unnecessarily rude owner who told us that we were not welcome after we mentioned that we needed to leave the campground again in the evening as we had reservations for dinner in Hamilton expecting to be back around 10 pm. She launched into a diatribe that our late arrival would upset the whole camp and she did not want to deal with the complaints. Before we were able to say a word she continued "And next, you're gonna tell me that you will be quiet, but that won't work". So if you book this campground keep in mind that you won't be able to go anywhere by car in the evening which is ridiculous.
