Short walk that felt as if you were walking through a forest from Lord of the Rings!
The trail ends at a lookout over Lake Sylvan. We decided to take a dip and walk out to watch the sunset on a rock in the water. It was quite nice!!

We were unsure about this short walk as the parking lot was full of tour busses, but we were rewarded with an amazing sight.
It was worth it to brave the crowds!!

It is sad to see how fast Fox Glacier is melting, however, the walk to the glacier is beautiful.
The glacier has carved out a magnificent valley!! It was interesting to learn about the history of the glacier and to see first hand how fragile our environment really is.

After a walk along a raised track almost on top of raging rapids, the trail crossed a few streams and then climbed up a steep rocky mountain to Lake Marian.
It was beautiful!

We arrived at 8am to enquire about freedom kayak hires for the same day.
Without hassle, we were trained and tested on our kayak rescue skills and by 9:30am we were on the water to explore. Easy pickup and dropoff on the beach!

After driving down a short dirt road, we hit the Wharariki Beach parking lot.
A short, uphill walk through low fields led us to a beautiful beach of dunes and interesting rock bluffs with caves at low tide. Continued along the beach to a trail leading towards Cape Farewell. While only 2km one way, the walkway was quite hilly. Bring water. Amazing views.
