Not much to look at but a friendly manager and brilliant facilities included.
It was $30 for a powered site for 2 people. There are hot showers, well equipped kitchen and washing machines and tumble dryers free to use. Really good place to stopover.

This was absolutely our favourite place we camped in NZ!
Lovely clean facilities, big modern kitchen and free hot showers and 250mb wifi data! Laundry, dump station and drinking water available. The best bit was being given a little tub of animal feed and going to meet the friendly alpacas, sheep and goats :)

Curio Bay Camping Ground
The pros: you can't beat it's location - we were able to easily visit the yellow-eyed penguins and see Hector's dolphins.
The cons: everything else! No dump site or fresh drinking water available. Toilets horrible and flooded in the rain. Showers $2 and looked like cobwebbed jail cells. Kitchen tiny. They then charge $30 for a powered site for 2 people?!
I would not stay here again without a fully self contained van.
