South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Blenheim ▷
Campsite right by the beach.
It's very windy and the toilets weren't very clean (toilet paper scattered everywhere).
South Island ▷ Kaikoura Region ▷ Kaikoura ▷
Freedom campsite for 6 vehicles right on the beach with a view of the mountains!
You must have a green self-contained sticker, toilets are about 5 min walk.
We spent one night here (no more is allowed). No ranger checked us, but we left at 7 am as required (all other campervans also left at 7 am).
We didn't mind leaving early, because you can watch the sunrise while having breakfast and also we went on a beautiful hike to Mount Fyffe right in the morning.
Plus, there is excellent homemade ice cream nearby.
South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷ Picton / Marlborough Sounds ▷
One of the best campsites we have visited in NZ.
Everything was clean, staff were friendly. We definitely recommend it as a stopover from or to Picton! :-)
North Island ▷ Wellington Region ▷ Porirua ▷
Nice place We found a place here at 11 pm (in October) when the two free campsites in Wellington were full.
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Motueka ▷
About 8 places to sleep.
You will sleep a bit downhill, but it is enough for a one-night stop.
Non-flush toilet, which was quite smelly.
View of the valley nearby.
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Abel Tasman ▷
Huge campsite, lots of parking, lots of toilets and showers.
Also lots of Weka and Pukeko who steal food and aren't afraid to get in your car.
The beach is absolutely stunning with orange sand. The view from the nearby lookout was great!
The gravel driveway wasn't bad and looked well maintained, you just have to drive carefully as a car coming the other way can come at any time.
