Really lovely spot!
Right next to a big, beautiful beach, quiet and the facilities were clean and comfortable. I could see how the kitchen might get cramped in busier seasons, but it was perfect for me. Camp staff were friendly too. Also had good cell reception.
Would absolutely stay again if I'm back in the area!

Awastone
Lovely spot right next to the river!
I didn't realize they had non-powered sites on their Awastone side of the bridge, so chose that in hopes it might offer a bit of privacy given it was a weekday. But that area is quite crowded with just 4 or 5 sites in a small grassy area. The unlimited hot showers was a bonus and being right next to the cafe, but ultimately probably should've opted for the Mangaweka side on those non-powered sites.
Otherwise friendly staff, beautiful spot and great atmosphere, would highly recommend!

Sunset Ridge
Great spot with a truly beautiful view of the sunset!
Well worth the drive out. The lambs on the property were so cute, and a small few were even keen to approach you for chin scratches. One porta-potty available which was clean enough, but a bit full. Also drinking water available was a nice add.
Easiest way to book is to just call the owner for availability, who is really lovely.

Trounson Kauri Park Campground
Lovely campground!
Kitchen facilities were a huge bonus, and the walking track right on site made for some fun late night Kiwi spotting (although we didn’t see any) with some glow worms and huge Kauri trees. The water signage was confusing, but it’s recommended not to drink the tap water there even though it is treated. Beautiful starry sky at night too! Overall a lovely campground
