Beware it will not be accessible the weekend of the 14th/15th December 2024 due the to Rotorua Ironman.

Evans Bay Marina Carpark
Although freedom camping is mostly permitted in on street parking in Wellington it feels more secure to be with other campers.
It's a bit of a walk to the centre of town from here though! Was full when I arrived at 6pm but I was able to street park and move when it freed up in the morning. It's laid out like a normal carpark so campers are pretty jammed in. Very windy!

Lake Pearson (Moana Rua) Campsite
Pretty campsite next to the lake.
Clean long drop toilets. Signs advising against camping under the trees for safety reasons. Wind here was exceptionally strong when I visited.

Kerr Bay Campsite
Most of the site already booked when I arrived.
Despite signage saying the doc campsite pass is valid (except for 26 Dec to 8 Feb), the website disagrees and there is a $28 charge. Nearby access to beautiful lake although seemingly no views from the camping area.
