My wife and I rented a campervan from Britz for a week and in that week managed to see a lot of the South Island.

It wasn't nearly long enough but we had a great time. I'd bought a DOC pass but, after we stayed at a Top 10 campsite for our first night, we decided that we would use them, if possible, for the rest of the trip. As it turned out there was a Top 10 site everywhere we'd decided to go on our trip so that worked out pretty well for us. Probably helped by being early in the season as the only one we prebooked was the first one. We both loved the experience and the truly spectacular country we drove through.
