We really loved this place. Short drive on a very well maintained gravel road. Warm welcome from the managers. We loved Ryan’s seafood showder and lamb. Lovely setting in the mountains. Cosy Lounge room with fireplace. Good place for our toddler to crawl. A good base to explore castle hill. Stayed a addional night. Thank you very much.

Wow, fabulous views, clean hot shower, excellent facilities, and great hosts . Hosts were new and very informative and generous with their time ( best chippies , ever !) About a 6 km drive along gravel road , well worth the drive! Such a relaxing place, loved it here , perched high on the mountain , even when the lightning and thunder rolled in!

Stunning views of the mountains.
Such an amazing location.
Friendly host.
Clean and warm showers. Free WiFi that worked. There's also a games room and laundrette facilities on site.
Would definetly stay here again. And a bargain at 25NZD for 2 people on a powered site.

There's about 7km of gravel track to get there but worth it.

Always afraid to write positive reviews on hidden Paradises, but these People are doing such a good job they deserve to have more business than just 3 of us few days a year... theis place is one of those where you could stay forever...

We used Porter's Lodge as our base for two nights while doing Arthur's Pass (Avalanche Peak - tough one but worth it) and were astonished by the views and the hospitality at the Lodge. The hosts are lovely and very welcoming, the food is yummy and the Lodge itself is warm and cozy. There's warm and free showers, clean facilities, two cute dogs to cuddle, FREE and fast WiFi.
Perfect place to lift up your legs and relax after a tough day of hiking. Would definitely come again!

The greatest stay of our trip. Powered site 25$ and you can use the amazing facilities of the lodge. Inside of the lodge there is a rug and a no shoes policy so we felt right at home instantly! Power is being turned off at 10pm because it comes from a generator. There is light on the path towards the lodge but it’s easier to bring a torch if you have to go at night. Food prices are fair, especially considering the remote location. Speaking of which: stargazing was easily possible, as there is no light all around at night. They also have two cute dogs.

Awesome location, great people running the place, lovely food. So nice to stay somewhere a bit different, and so close to the ski field. You can use the Lodge bathrooms, lounge, games room, etc and dine there if you wish (recommended!). Power available while generators are running. They turn them off at 10pm which is perfect, because then you can enjoy the peace in the remote location knowing you have given the batteries some charge. Showers nice and hot, heaters in the bathroom, managers turned them in in advance for us so ready and warm (thank you!). Note-the road in was in poor shape and badly needed grading, but wasn’t a long drive. It’s an old Lodge, but charming and authentic. Totally recommend, even if you don’t want to ski.
