Always afraid to write positive reviews on hidden Paradises, but these People are doing such a good job they deserve to have more business than just 3 of us few days a year... theis place is one of those where you could stay forever...

We used Porter's Lodge as our base for two nights while doing Arthur's Pass (Avalanche Peak - tough one but worth it) and were astonished by the views and the hospitality at the Lodge. The hosts are lovely and very welcoming, the food is yummy and the Lodge itself is warm and cozy. There's warm and free showers, clean facilities, two cute dogs to cuddle, FREE and fast WiFi.
Perfect place to lift up your legs and relax after a tough day of hiking. Would definitely come again!

The greatest stay of our trip. Powered site 25$ and you can use the amazing facilities of the lodge. Inside of the lodge there is a rug and a no shoes policy so we felt right at home instantly! Power is being turned off at 10pm because it comes from a generator. There is light on the path towards the lodge but it’s easier to bring a torch if you have to go at night. Food prices are fair, especially considering the remote location. Speaking of which: stargazing was easily possible, as there is no light all around at night. They also have two cute dogs.

Awesome location, great people running the place, lovely food. So nice to stay somewhere a bit different, and so close to the ski field. You can use the Lodge bathrooms, lounge, games room, etc and dine there if you wish (recommended!). Power available while generators are running. They turn them off at 10pm which is perfect, because then you can enjoy the peace in the remote location knowing you have given the batteries some charge. Showers nice and hot, heaters in the bathroom, managers turned them in in advance for us so ready and warm (thank you!). Note-the road in was in poor shape and badly needed grading, but wasn’t a long drive. It’s an old Lodge, but charming and authentic. Totally recommend, even if you don’t want to ski.

One word “STARS”
You wouldn’t think twice about paying to star gaze once you’ve been out here. Best location, not too cold at night either. The lodge restaurant was open all day and the fire going at night, showers are hot and no extra costs for anything. There’s no cell reception but good wifi and coffee. The lodge manager and made us feel very welcome, not bad for $25 for 2 people

Thanks guys!
Mountain life= diesel generator which means you can enjoy the stars without the cause of lights and noise! We know it’s a bit of a pain, but our spot is worth it!

Could not recommend this place enough! The mountain views, instant hot showers, wifi, and cozy lodge were all amazing, but the hospitality was spectacular. Shoutout to Bruno and Michelle for making our stay here a highlight of our trip!

This place came as a pleasant surprise to my brother and I, if you can get over the 6k gravel road from the high way which my baby can drive perfectly fine you won't be disappointed. Affordable, comfortable facilities include showers, Wi-Fi, good burgers, cozy lounge plus table tennis. Michelle + Bruno who run the Lodge are super laid back and helpful, we felt at home :) Bonus, it was never too busy!
