An enchanting Wellness Retreat with accommodation and camping nestled among organic gardens and rainforest in Kumara, West Coast. Greenstone Retreat is in a lovely bush setting on the outskirts of the village. Enjoy the peace and quiet with abundant birdlife, trees and wild gardens. Very little noise or traffic and yet only 5-minute walk/ride to the cycle trail and walking tracks, the Cafe, hotel, dairy, park and the village. Close to river and lake to play and explore and 7km from the beach for sunset and greenstone fossicking. Just 20mins drive from Hokitika and Greymouth, the West Coast Wilderness Trail passes right through Kumara, other classic tourist stops can be found within an hours drive and Christchurch is only 3hrs away. We're in the middle of everywhere, and away from it all and the perfect base camp for your holiday. The EVOLve studio on site hosts weekly yoga classes and retreats featuring meditation, breathwork and sound healing. Private sessions are available as well as the regular scheduled classes. The healing hut is used by local masseuses and an osteopath - contact us or see our website for details. Other events are often on offer.

The retreat has a range of accommodation options. The "Grandmother" on the property is the self-contained Villa, dating back to 1881. Seriously spacious with 3 bedrooms, incorporating 3 queen beds and 2 singles, yet wonderfully cosy whilst retaining historical character. This holiday home boasts comfortable rooms, a wood burning fireplace, electric heaters, self contained full kitchen, inviting dining and lounge areas for everyone to relax. The bathroom includes both a shower and huge clawfoot bathtub.

The nest and family bunk rooms tucked behind the villa have access to everything you need for an effortless holiday. Sleep well on comfortable beds, relax on bean bags, snuggle in with blankets and hot water bottles and connect via free wifi. Tea and coffee facilities, full bedding and towels provided.

  • a small oasis that is lovingly designed and still under construction.

Kate is a very friendly and helpful person. Yoga and massage can be booked. Outdoor kitchen is fully equipped. Showers and toilets very clean. I discovered it by chance and would go again

  • Very difficult rating this place, because the facilities are wonderful and the place looks adorable.

However, we found some antivax folders in the common area and that made us slightly uncomfortable. If this doesn't bother you, it's a nice stay.

Got to join a cacao ceremony yoga night. Cute little outdoor kitchen. Nice showers. Spaces are limited so book online before arriving and bring cash!

  • This place was really incredible.

Kate, the owner runs the place really well and the people you meet there are very friendly, always ready to help.

The showers and toilets are always clean. Some yoga or dance events, etc. can be organized. Yoga studio, sofa lounge, washing machine are available.

She allows campers and vans to work in exchange for the night (1h or 2 for 1 night, it's very fair).

A very pleasant place to discover the surrounding area or simply stop off to recharge your batteries.

  • Nicest shower I've ever used in a 'camping ground.' oh and the lounge, not big but homey, comfortable with a hot water jug.

Lovely spot, lots of trees but 2 dogs if that is a worry. The kitchen is outdoors but has emergency provisions and free range eggs for sale {there is a morning rooster}.

  • Absolutely stunning!

What an awesome place to set up camp for the night. Hot, strong showers, free wifi and such a cool puppy by the name of scout running around. It’s a little slice of paradise tucked away in Kamara. Place to escape the cold, charge all your devices with lovely service to match. Definitely worth the stay! 10/10 would recommend

  • Beautiful spot - very homely and super super showers (hot, clean and like a real bathroom-no bugs!).

    Great dog and friendly host.

Outdoor kitchen and lots of table/hammocks. Van space is gravel driveway but as there is a shared grassy area this is fine!

Need cash to pay (can do PayPal but small charge)

  • Great little character filled campsite (8 cars max?) for $15 pp.

Facilities are super clean and there is a heater in the shower, which are free with the camping fee. Wifi is available if needed at a fee and the spaniel is super cute. Minimal sandflies too, like maybe 10. Would be great if the cooking facility was airtight to avoid sandfly contact altogether and if there was a freezer to refreeze the coolbox cool packs. But then there might not be room for all the lovely hammocks and garden tables and chairs so these are only minor points. Very friendly hostess too! Would and have recommended.

  • Like the super friendly host Kate says herself: in the middle of everywhere and away from it all.

A cosy and good feeling, hidden place close to the west coast where you can stay with your own car, in the dorms or villa. It has the best, warm camping shower you can think off! $15 per person was more than worth the money (camping). It is in a lovely small city, where you can do and see enough to stay an extra night.

We had problems with our car and a friendly neighbour helped us with that.

If you want to stay at a different, but well organised place, you need to stay here and enjoy ;-)
