Clean quiet and safe spot surrounded by houses. Right near the beach and the facilities were great - clean toilet and recycling and rubbish bins. A security guard came past just to check we were self contained. We even heard kiwi at night!

Very nice spot, crowded during the day with surfers and beach goers but quiet at night. Tidy toilets and a cold shower useful after a dip in the salty sea!

Stayed here two nights. Plenty of space and right next to the beach. Tidy toilets nearby which are open all day and night.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

Seems to be a very nice spot. Clean toilets, water, next to the beach... BUT it's closed from end of december till end of march.

Best carpark so far!
Many spots, 2 toilet cabins per gender (1 suitable for wheelchair), an area with a ceiling (perfect for rainy evenings) with view of the beach and sea and an outside shower (normally for the surfers but you can take a normal one aswell), really nice hiking treck to the beach over the hill, dump station and possibility to get your water changed.A quiet place, away from the busy part of Whakatane!

Situated at the very end (or beginning) of Ohope Beach. Designated area for campervans is a little bit off the beach next to a forrest, but has place for 15 vehicles. Between the parking area and the beach is a public toilet, so no beach view. Toilet is under reconstruction at the time of writing (9 Dec 17), meanwhile 3 well maintained Dixie's are installed nearby.
Park benches next to forrest and the beach give plenty of space for eating. Very quiet.
