Pedal kayaking is genuinely different. Your hands are free the whole time, which means you can hold your camera, point at things, or just let your arms hang while you drift past a fur seal colony. It's a relaxed way to be on the water and works well for people who aren't confident paddlers.
The sunset timing gets a good rap from people who've done it. The light on the Kaikōura Ranges from the water is pretty special. Levi, the guide, clearly knows his stuff on the wildlife and local history front and takes photos for you too. (The Rankers code gets you 10% off, worth grabbing.) One tip that keeps coming up: bring gloves if it's cool out. Fingers get cold on the water, though Levi has warm coats if you need them.
For wildlife, seals are a near certainty, and there's a solid chance of spotting Little Blue penguins too. Small group size helps here. You're close to the animals without a crowd around you.

A wonderful experience.
It was so relaxing to be out on the water. My friend and I went for sunset and the lighting on the mountains was beautiful and we saw seals and Little Blue penguins! Levi is great and a superb guide. He told us a bit about the wildlife, the history of the area and he even took pictures for us! Pedal kayaking is so unique and really fun to be on the water with your hands free. If it is cool outside I'd recommend bringing gloves to keep your fingers warm. Levi has coats if you're worried about being cold. This is a fantastic tour and I highly recommend it!
