The guides are consistently the highlight across hundreds of reviews. They know the cave well, they explain the glowworm biology and geology in plain terms, and they keep things moving with a bit of humour. The moment where everyone links up, kills the headlights, and just drifts under the glowworms is something people talk about for years. One reviewer called it "a night sky" and that about sums it up.
A few honest notes. Larger groups can mean more waiting between sections, so if you're the impatient type, manage expectations there. The photos they take cost extra and aren't always worth it. And yes, the price is on the higher end for a three hour tour. But most people come out thinking it was worth it, warm soup and showers included.
The three hour Black Labyrinth suits most people well. If you want more time underground, there are longer options available. Either way, go knowing you'll get wet, you'll get cold, and you'll come out grinning.

This was absolutely fantastic and I would say a must for most people, we had two great guides Xsavier and Warren, who we met later in the day and had a great chat with and should be given a permanent position
at Black Water Rafting. Tour was interactive and at times physical so may not suit all body shapes and sizes but our group certainly benefitted and got the most out of it. all equipment was provided and was in good condition, we even had a chocolate treat sat in the caves underneath the Glow worms. The guides not only took us along the route but gives a interesting history how the caves where formed and how the Glow worms do there glowing, both these had factual talks here with delivered with some humour. Ten out of ten for this tour.

It was a great experience. We did the three hours tour. We have also seen the glowworms. The group (12) was too big for us, because we had too much waiting time.

Brilliant trip on Black Labyrinth, ably looked after by Tim and Cam.
Some of the kit was showing signs of wear, but given the terrain this should be expected. At each stage there was a careful, but not excessive brief. Not wanting to give anything away, this is a recommendation for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The tour was awesome and the guide was pretty nice and knew a lot about the cave, eco system and flora/fauna.
After a day canyoning, I kind of expected more, but still a great experience.

We did the caving tour for four hours which was plenty of time.
It is chilly down there, so be prepared to freeze a bit. Warm soup afterwards could be a bit better.

Great underground scenery, including rivers, waterfalls, limestone formations and glowworms.
Plenty of activities that can be done, but the Black Abyss tour has it all!

Nice to have seen the Waitomo Caves and the glowworms on a tour which has to be guided.
The instructors were good entertainers, I enjoyed the activity but was not impressed by any challenge or difficulty!

Swimming in caves with a worm-made night sky.
For once the commercial photos are not misleading. The tour is fun, demanding and a cool/cold experience.

This was my favorite experience in all of New Zealand.
The caves were amazing. What a thrilling way to experience them by floating along in the water. The staff were excellent in guiding us along the streams and keeping us all together. They were positive and funny. At one point we all hooked together in a line (about 10 rafters) and turned off our headlights as we gazed up in wonder at the twinkling glow worms. It was like a night sky!
We also enjoyed the warm soup and showers afterwards!

Brilliant staff, quick response online to enquiries.
They added an extra time slot to help accomodate us as it was sold out. Experience was outstanding, great guides to help you enjoy!
