5 Doubtful Sound

Experience spectactular Doubtful Sound from sea level on one of our guided sea kayaking adventures!

Join our sea kayak adventures in this unique place with one of our fantastic day or multi-day encounters.

With heaps of experience operating in this remote fiord we have something to suit everyone and with a maximum group size of 8 + your guide, this is truly a spectactular way to see Doubtful Sound up close and personal.

First we cross Lake Manapouri by ferry, then coach across the Southern Alps over the Wilmot Pass down into Doubtful Sound.

Then get a taste for Doubtful with our day trip involving up to 3hrs paddling out into Deep Cove, out to Rolla Island and then onto Olphert Cove. A perfect way to get a feel for a place most people will never get to encounter.

If you're feeling a little more adventurous you can try our Doubtful Sound Overnighter to really experience this remote wilderness. Each day has up to 5hrs paddling and in the evening we chill out at our base camp nestled in Hall Arm.

We also offer the 3-Day Epic and 5-Day Expedition trips for more experienced paddlers. Please contact us for more information.

We did the "Doubtful Day Out" kayak trip in March 2017.
We were a total of 8 people, the trip started from Manapouri at 7 am. Amazing sunrise on Lake Manapouri during the boat transfer !
3h of kayak, with geological and environmental descriptions from our guide.
During the first hour, we were alone in the Sound, which made the place and the silence really awesome !
The return transfer (bus+boat) was made a bit in a rush...
The price is expensive for a "simple" kayaking trip, but it is the price to pay to enjoy the beauty and the silence of Doubtful Sound !

Beautiful, not so many people - peaceful. Saw dolphins, seals, baby eagles and a dead shark. Away for 10 hours.
