    He was professional friendly helpful and a great personality. I was totally satisfied with the service and will never use another rental company. It’s an amazing company and Sahil is an amazing person

  • Do not trust.

    Did a tranfercar job for this fraudster organisation. They gave me a car with a crack in the windscreen by the rego sticker. By the time I got from Wellington to Auckland, the crack had spread to along the top of the rego sticker and now these scammers are saying $600. This is what you call a scam. Like they have no brains in there heads to work out what happens when they don't get there cracks in there windscreens fixed

  • If I could give zero stars, I would.

    Our experience with Mode Rentals was appalling after our rental car was stolen.

    Mode's shocking customer service made a stressful situation infinitely worse. The Christchurch manager, Ryan, was useless and lacked empathy. After waiting hours for a call back, we chased them, only to be asked "why are you calling?". Ryan was patronising, offering no solutions for our urgent travel predicament. After 7 hours of getting nowhere, our only option was to go to their office.

    They offered no replacement, no refund for the missed hire period, and kept our $3000 NZD deposit. To continue our holiday, we had to take out a completely new hire. They insisted we could only take a more expensive car as they were closing soon, making us realise if we hadn't turned up, we would have been stranded.

    The real nightmare came post-holiday. Mode emailed, brazenly accusing us of causing the theft by leaving the car unlocked & running, demanding another $3000 NZD. This was a complete fabrication. We asked for proof, but they provided none, and emailed as if their word was evidence enough. They were dishonest about using an "impartial" locksmith & never shared any actual report.

    Despite zero proof, they aggressively hounded us for payment & ignored our arguments. Unprofessionally, they twice suggested we should just pay & claim it on our insurance—a truly unethical and predatory tactic. Avoid this company at all costs.

  • Put simply - pay a bit more money and go somewhere else.

    We hired with Mode for 2 weeks taking a car from Auckland to Queenstown. The price was extremely reasonable and the pick up etc. could not be faulted.

    Unfortunately, while driving in NZ the rear passenger tyre completely blew out. To summarise the support given, we had to pay for the AA call out fee then also arrange for a replacement tyre to be fitted on Good Friday - this cost us in excess of £400 and took out an entire day of our trip. Note that for Mode it is the customer's responsibility to replace the tyre regardless of cause and it is clearly stated in the Ts and Cs so we accepted this.

    We returned the car, however, and then upon return 2 weeks later, was hit by a bill for a further £500. Despite the AA mechanic reporting there may have been damage to the fuel breather hose (unclear whether this was due to the tyre at all), Mode had charged us to replace the entire fuel tank. I only found this out originally as they had charged my credit card without telling me, then later they just sent an invoice with the amount. Only upon request, did they send me a document that they had in fact taken the liberty to replace the entire fuel tank. It seems highly disingenuous that they can just bill you whatever they see fit and you have no defence whatsoever.

    A word of advice: if you do decide to go with them, get some seriously good insurance.

  • Will definitely use Mode Auckland car rentals again!

    Our flight got canceled & rebooked & when I rang Mode they were great at changing our pick up time & even offered an after hours service.

    Car was exactly what we booked, clean & ready when we arrived.

    Everything went smoothly with paperwork & all was emailed to me on collection.

    Airport transfers are an absolute plus also…..thanks Mode Auckland, you guys rock!!

  • The Wellington office is a small office but the lady in the office was friendly and everything ready to go.

    We were picked up from Wellington airport and taken to the office.

    The car was exactly as ordered. And such a very reasonable price.Everything explained in full and easy to understand.

    We will definitely be using them again.

    Yep they're cheap, and that did make us a little nervous, but we have nothing but good things to say. Car was great, service was prompt, flexible and helpful. We would definitely use them again.

  • FABULOUS service.

    They TOTALLY exceeded all expectations. I got a cracked windscreen, I had not taken any extra insurance so it was completely my responsibility to deal with this. I called to let them know what had happened.

    I had a car from Wellington branch but was in Auckland. Mode took care of everything for me - gave me a substitute car to use for my entire booking. Organised the repair of the windscreen. They altered my booking for me, when they did not need to. They were very prompt, very efficient, kind and attentive. Their rates are also extremely cost effective. What an AWESOME company.

  • Got a car at Wellington airport.

    Took about 10 mins from calling Mode until the shuttle van arrived, then less than 10 min ride to their depot, which is basic but functional. No problems with the car, and returning it was just as straightforward.

  • MODE Car Rentals Auckland are a great service.

    I have used their services over some years now when i return to NZ. Great value for money and never had any trouble with the vehicles, i have always been very happy with their cleanliness, and standard. The customer service is also very amenable, friendly and kind.

    Just a couple of feedbacks...The Auckland CBD pick-up was super hard to find and if i had been told to go to the MODE counter INSIDE the railway station i wouldn't have got lost. Also, since i am usually arriving internationally i often don't bother with a NZ phone sim card and therefore do not have GPS. I know it's old fashioned but a map in the glovebox would be great.

    I will continue to choose MODE, best in NZ in my opinion.

  • I rented a mini 2 birth camper (a Honda Partner) initially for three weeks, then extended rental for another ten days or so (threw away my return ticket, and replaced it with a cheap one way to USA — my

    home is Canada). I loved the car, peppy, easy to drive and park, inconspicuous (unlike a true camper). Initially I was provided with an air mattress—it had a leak and took up too much space. Thanks to Matthew I easily arranged a swop for foam pads. I was travelling with a woman friend for the first few weeks and we always booked an Airbnb, occasionally I used the Honda as second bedroom if I wanted my own space, or to sleep near a beach, during those weeks. Once my friend departed, I was sleeping in the Honda and not booking an Airbnb four nites out of five. Loved being able to find seclude places to park overnight, not having to plan out where I would spend the night more than a few hours before nightfall, and when sleeping in the vehicle, not being obvious that the vehicle was a habitation. [I am 75 years old, a fairly experienced camper, and well able to afford a hotel.]

    Only reason I am giving a 9 rather than a 10: when I extended my booking on phone I was told that I would get email confirmation, didn’t get one, and I was left anxious over a weekend (exact details here may be off). Employees are personable, kindly, but sometimes paperwork follow thru may be lacking or sloppy. Small inconvenience, but be prepared.

  • Car is clean and reliable.

    However, be careful of choosing the option for a guaranteed model and paying extra. I chose a guaranteed 2018-2020 model Toyota Corolla Hatch and i got an older model instead. When i emailed in to check, they said the model is registered in 2018, hence it's the correct model. This is extremely misleading, especially when they are charging extra for a guaranteed model.

  • Car I was rented rav4 2018 had 4 defect tyres unknown to me , we drove 3hrs to hokitika where the rear tyre blew out!

    Rung mode who said it was my problem and im responsible even tho i had peace of mind insurance and was on a highway...took it to bridgestone who discovered all tyres were old and defect! Mode is lucky no one was hurt as he would have found himself in court...didnt like his attitude and tried to blame me which i couldnt believe ...trye shop found nothing i had run over and tyres were just old and cracked.

    Will not use mode again.

  • Late email to tell me that i could not pick-up the vehicle as expected because the bond had been declined.

    The office was closed and I was with my 3 kids and my wife at the airport, with no solution. We took a taxi ($$$) to our hotel, then I went to Mode rentals the day after to pick-up the vehicle... Poor service at the desk, no excuses, no Booster seat in the car at first... But invoice overloaded with "after-hours fee" (????) So disappointed. I will never go with Mode rentals again...

  • We arrived from Auckland to Wellington for a function and discovered that the car allocated had a puncture.

    This was a 6 seater.They were very unhelpful till we demanded that they do something about it. First they said they didn't have AA membership, then they said it will take an hour... so forth. Finally we managed to get two cars where we had to pay parking for two cars, petrol for two cars etc. Also we spent so much time trying yo get some transport we were very late for our function. When we returned they were just as bad. I honestly would not reccommend them at all. We go to Wellington a bit and hire cars. We will never go there again, and we have told dozens of people about our terrible experience.
