Designed to appeal to all ages and nationalities, Salmon World contains a number of unique and fascinating attractions, all based on the scenic Rakaia River which is considered by many as the best salmon fishing river in New Zealand. Salmon World will let you experience this unusual New Zealand ecology in a fun and entertaining way.
Our two attractions at Salmon World are focused around the Rakaia River with a 4D Movie ride and Freshwater Aquarium. The 4D Movie Ride lets you experience the best adventure activities our region has to offer such as riding in a jet boat and helicopter up the scenic Rakaia River. The second attraction is a freshwater aquarium that is focused around the lifecycle of the Chinook salmon. The aquarium is also home to many other species such as brown and rainbow trout, eels and turtles.
A trip to Salmon World can be incorporated with a visit to our excellent Salmon Tales Café and the Rakaia Country Arts store; all situated in the same ‘salmon’ shaped building. The building is also home to the Southern Gateway Visitors Centre which offers information on the area, internet access and booking information.

Salmon World was cool because it not only just had salmon, it had different sorts of fish and eels. Excellent insight into the life cycle of the salmon. The 4D film was fun too though leaves you feeling a shade motion sick afterwards. Having the giant salmon across the road completes a pretty nifty attraction.
