The trip over Danseys Pass is awesome, it connects North Otago to South Otago. It's a quiet, narrow and winding road that is surrounded by a few farms. It can be accessed via the Waitaki Valley and Naseby. This road is subject to high winds and snow falls at all times of the year and is therefore not recommended for campervans or caravans.
The easiest way to reach the campsite is from Nasby (a great place for mountain biking and curling) and can be found just 500m from the Danseys Pass Coach Inn - a great place for a snack should you so desire.

nice area but access road needs a bit of work. quite rutty in places and 1 part near the camp that could do with a culvert over the drain. toilets can be a bit whiffy in the summer but no cost to stay so you cant expect too much.

My husband and I and arrived at this camping ground and were absolutely blown away! So peaceful and such beautiful surroundings. The owners were so lovely. They gave us a generous discount the first night in a chalet. It was really comfortable and cosy to stay in. There is a river that runs along beside the camping ground which you can hear from the chalet we stayed in, we slept so well being able to hear the water flowing all night long. We liked it so much, we stayed another night. Absolutely beautiful surroundings and the owners totally went out of their way for us and made us feel so comfortable and welcome. It's a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all. Also a great place to take kids and the best thing is that you have to drive 5 minutes up the road to get a phone signal, so it is literally a great place if you want to get away/get your kids away from cell-phones and the internet. We are looking forward to staying there again in the near future.
Each camping location is approved by a regional council in NZ. So if it shows on the map, you’re allowed to stay.

nice area but personally I would prefer to pay a small camping fee in exchange for the road in to be upgraded and it only needs potholes filled and toilets to be cleaned. they are disgusting.

Really nice site, road to get to it is a bit rough but it's right by the river which is nice. Bathrooms have clean water but they recommend boiling it still and no toilet paper so bring your own. Quite enjoyed it.

This was our favourite campground in 2 months of travelling around! The turn off the main road through a gate is a little hard to find but there is a small sign giving info on the campground.

This is an idyllic site, small and perfectly formed with its little stream. Toilets were a bit scuzzy with no paper but there you go. An ideal spot to overnight at either before or after tackling Danseys Pass.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
