The Milford run is the one most people go for, and for good reason. The terrain between Queenstown and Milford is enormous. Huge snow-capped ranges, deep bush valleys, glaciers, and then you drop into Milford itself via what one reviewer called a "funky airstrip". The combined flight and cruise option is worth considering too. You get the aerial perspective in and the boat perspective on the Sound itself.
Weather makes a big difference out here, but the aircraft are high-wing which means the views are good for everyone on board, not just the window seat lottery. The coaches to Milford take around five hours each way. The flight is a different world. Worth the extra cost.

This was a highlight experience!
The flight from Queenstown to Milford covers awesome terrain - huge beautiful mountains and lush bush valleys. Arriving into Milford is a thrill - such a unique place, and funky airstrip! Milford Sound is totally majestic, especially with the recent snow down into the bushline and so many waterfalls. The Sound was absolutely streaming water! I worked in Fiordland for a number of years but coming back I was still blown away - it truly is such a special part of NZ. Thanks to your great staff and the awesome trip, Glenorchy Air :)

My friend and I took a flight into Milford Sound with Glenorchy in late October.
They can't take the credit for the fabulous weather on the day of the flight but they made the most of it with a superb flight over the mountains. They looked after us magnificently from start to finish - a personal service that made us feel like real VIPs with our own private plane. OK it costs a bit more than the coach but 5 hours in and 5 hours back on the road can't be much fun, whereas with Glenorchy it was sheer pleasure. Ian Lee

I took a scenic flight from Milford Sound to Queenstown with Glenorchy Air, and it's probably one of my favorite, most memorable experiences from New Zealand.
We had absolutely perfect weather in October, and the mountains and lakes of the Southern Alps could not have been any more breathtaking. Even my photos are flawless. We were well taken care of, and even offered a great price, which was a big plus! Though the experience - excuse the cliche - was priceless.

We were picked up and dropped off at the holiday park.
We went on a flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound. There we made a cruise through Milford Sound and flew back again to Queenstown. A great experience! We went with another couple on a small plane, friendly and skilled pilot. Great views of the mountains (southern alpes) and the Sound. The pilot came with us to the start of the cruise and picked us up again.
