About 4km North of Charleston we visited an originally rebuilt goldmine.

A man of the 6th generation can tell you a lot of the odd goldrush and how they cause the gold. He maintains everything well. Though it is really interesting and worth a visit it is a bit pricey at $10 per person. Duration is about 1 hour.

This was a lovely trail with mine shafts and tunnels featuring glowworms without loads of tourists.

An original water wheel used during the gold rush to crush ore is nestled into a beautiful stream.

Nice little walk through a goldmine.

Some explanation at the beginning. In the mine, tunnel system you can see glowworms.

No coffee shop, no gift shop, no photos of you at the end.

Totally cheese free. Just 2 blokes in gumboots drinking beers around a stove. For $10 you can explore an old gold mine, hut and machinery (some still in working order, although not at the time). Really authentic experience to a west coast mine.
