Camping NZ NEW

Welcome to New Zealand's most comprehensive database of freely available camping information. This is the only travel map of its kind in NZ.

  • Onetahuti Beach – possible stream crossing

A stream has diverted across the beach just past the Onetahuti Bay Campsite, going north from Onetahuti. At high tide the stream could be as deep as 1.5 m in the middle, and about 20 m across.

If you don't want to wade through, make sure you plan you trip within 4 hours either side of low tide. If not possible, wait and cross when the water is down to a comfortable level – allow for extra time.

Red-alert tide (very high tide) dates for 2022 Nelson/Tasman:

    • 15–19 June
    • 13–18 July
    • 13–15 August
    • 30 October
    • 26–29 November
    • 25–29 December

See the NIWA tide timetable (PDF, 110K)

This is a long term alert.

Small camp site with the indervidual sites being quite private. Right next to the torrent bay inlet which is beautiful at high tide when the water comes right up to the campsite.

One of the least used Abel Tasman campsites due to it not having it's own beach and being close to the Torrent Bay village (privately owned holiday houses). But is very quiet as a result. Cleopatra's Pool is a great little freshwater swimming bonus that's just a shortish walk away.

Not recommended unless you time the high tide for arrival and departure. You'll have sore arms by the time you drag your kayak up here!
