We had a great experience with the Road Abode motorhome. Away for a week, we went to stay at Totaranui Campground, Wharariki Beach Campground and The Barn Campground in Maharau. My kids (age 4 and 6) loved the whole trip especially sleeping above the driver's cabin and getting to bed very late...
For me it was the first time to drive such a big motorhome, but it was not a problem and even easier than expected. We had a great personal support from Hamish and he gave us some useful information before the trip and a good introduction on the spot. Pick-up and dropp-off were very easy and the quality of your Mercedes 4 berth motorhome very good.
Thanks again to Hamish!

Had a fantastic experience with the company. My brother and I rented a VW Volkswagen LT35 for around 16 days to tour the NZ South Island. We had the absolute best trip ever, particularly thanks to our awesome self contained motorhome, affectionately know as Moby the great white whale. It was a little tricky to manoeuvre to begin with with neither of us ever having driven a camper of that size before but Hamish at Road Abode was incredible patient and helpful. A few other situations arose with us not being familiar with filling it up with water etc, but Hamish continued to be super accommodating, even taking our calls on Christmas Day (sorry Hamish!) They also allowed us a slightly delayed return of the vehicle which actually saved us a heap of costs sorting accommodation at the last minute. Overall, if you're looking for a no frills campervan experience, great, personalised service with some good people, then Road Abode is perfect for you. Highly recommended!

The motor home was very clean when we picked it up.
A+ service! We rented a Fiat 4 berth self-contained motorhome for a week in December 2017. Had an awesome, relaxing time on the Nelson/Golden Bay coastline with great weather and no crowds. Great value to hire from a Nelson company rather than pay the relocation costs charged by many large national ones. Hamish and his team were always very helpful and communicative: online during booking; at the start of the hire - when Hamish picked us up from our motel and gave us a thorough briefing on everything in the van, which we appreciated as first-time campers. And at the end of the week, Ken accommodated our flight time, even dropping us at the airport. They went 'above and beyond' and couldn't have been more helpful. The location of the yard is convenient to Nelson Airport. The van was in great condition and well-equipped. As a couple, we had the luxury of leaving the van set up all the time, with the seating and table in place - and the full-time bed above the cabin was more spacious and comfortable than we expected, too. Thank you for a great experience.
The camper provided had a severe dust problem, the company did nothing satisfactory to fix the problem, would not consider using this company again.
Road Abode Motorhomes responds:
Hi John, Very sad to see your remark. If you had called with this issue when it happened I could of told you to close vents and windows. Unfortunately this is a lesson to all about driving on unsealed roads. I must add that I did get this Motorhome checked by the manufactures after this complaint and it came back A+. The people that hired this before and after haven't had a issue ether. I'm also very sad that your holiday and experience with traveling in NZ wasn't a happy one. Hope you travels in the future go better for you.
A+ service and an absolute "10" of an experience. We rented a Sprinter-van RV from Hamish at Road Abode for a tour of the South Island. Started in Nelson & went up to Abel Tasman, down the west coast, through Wanaka, Queenstown, Te Anau and out to Milford Sound. Then up to Mt. Cook, over to Tekapo, down to Dunedin & ended our trip in Christchurch. Hamish was very thorough in describing the details of the van & we used it to its fullest (even freedom camped). Cooked many delicious meals, had numerous card games and it was amazing to walk up and have a cold drink out of the fridge after a long trek! We had zero mechanical issues as the RV ran like a top! The entire trip was comfortable and gorgeous! Hat's off to Hamish and his crew at Road Abode! We would do it again in a heartbeat!
We at Rankers NZ, love to meet travellers on the road and share in some of the freedom. That's why Rankers NZ invites you to come and stay for free at our chill riverside overnight parking area in the Motueka Valley at the top of the South Island.
