This is our second stay. The campground is great. Nice people who run it. Clean and newish facilities. Has a friendly cat and resident weka. Cheap. Will stay again when passing this way. There is a nice walk to be explored to.

One of the best campsite i have seen in NZ (i have seen more than 30 campsites), clean facilities: hot shower, complete kitchen with even an oven, free unlimited wifi and all this for 12$ per person for an unpowered site

This is the 2nd time staying at the Matawai Camp Ground since the new owners took over. Very reasonably priced, exceptionally pleasant and helpful hosts, great facilities on offer. A little gem that's worth supporting. Dog friendly.
stayed one night before riding bicycle down motu road..great kitchen. nice showers.very cheap for our unpowered site...
The campground is under new people. It's clean, the facilities look new to me. The new owners are friendly. Had a good night's rest there before heading in for a tramp nearby.
I came from Whakatane by bicycle and was very tired when arriving. The place was very lonely and although I got a hot shower I had to pay NZD 25 just for one person and the tent. The place was old, dirty and really by far the worst camp site I have ever seen.
