Information

Fantail Bay Campsite

Camp in peaceful surroundings beneath pōhutukawa trees. A track with outstanding views leads to the bushline.

Huge pohutukawa trees, grass and a nice stoney beach. there are a bunch of short walks to do in the region - some of them with fantastic views. Safe swimming beach.

The road to get here is beautiful - be aware though, it can be quite tight in areas with steep drop offs. The road from Colville north is unsealed.

  • Quiet and off the beaten path.

Charged us $10 per person and $3 for a rubbish bag? It rained hard the night we stayed here, we were first up and out of camp only to find one of the two swale crossings along the way was washed out. Stranded for three hours until the near by landowner/farmer let us use his bridge to be on our way!

  • Beautiful spot.

Great fishing. Shame about the doc camp supervisors. Really felt out privacy was taken away. Felt like they were always hovering over us. Just did not feel relaxed.

  • Beautiful site just by the bay.

Only cold showers and long drop toilets but very clean and well managed.
