An island sanctuary for native flora and fauna, the camp is near a Māori historic site and early European settlement.
Sleep on an predator free island sanctuary and watch for kiwi, grey faced petrel, NZ dotterel and the endangered shore plover. Bliss.

Motuora Campsite partial closure
The northern end of the Motuora Campsite is closed to reduce risk to visitors. This area has been roped off and has signage posted. Located close to the base of hills, it faces a heightened risk of shallow landslides or rockfall.
The rest of the campground (area between the lamp post and open drain) and toilet block remain open. They are lower risk due to their location further away from the base of the hill.

DOC Standard Campsite
Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.
