The track begins at the southern end of Hans Bay (just across Tuhua Creek Bridge) and is signposted at the entrance. The track is marked with orange triangular markers for its whole length.
This is a steep tramp to the open tussock peak of Mt. Tuhua (1125 metres) and is suitable for fit people only. Weather and track conditions should be checked before setting out.

Great walk. Normally 7 hours but I did it in 3 hours 30 minutes - very quickly. The ascension is difficult in the forest and you never see the top until the end. But at the top you see everything and all around you. I have had zero clouds!!! You need to have good knees.

Long track (6-7 hours), which is hard. Be prepared!! But the view is up the mountain and it is worth it. It is stunning.
Thanks to all the good people working for the NZ Department of Conservation - for all your hard work - making NZ more beautiful, accessable and healthy! Cheers 😍
