Camp beside one of the few remaining historic Howe truss bridges.
Very easily accessed, next to State Highway 2. Camping area surrounded by native bush, beside the river and near the historic Howe Truss bridge.
From Monday 9 March, the Waioweka Gorge will operate under new stop/go traffic management, with delays of up to 15 min between 5–7 am and 6–8 pm, and hourly stop/go cycles from 7 am to 6 pm.
The road will remain closed overnight, and access may be shut at short notice depending on conditions.

Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.
