This is our second hire with Wendekreisen as we won’t use anyone else. They are fantastic.
So helpful, flexible, professional and reliable. We hire the Koru 2 star walkthrough usually for a month and find it easy to drive, super economical and fully functional for the two of us. The diesel heater is excellent and the solar panel easily met all our power requirements. There’s enough storage for clothes, food and cycling gear. We carry two bikes on our own cycle rack on the rear tow bar which I lift off when we open the back doors. Obviously, it would be nice to have more space but at this stage, we think this campervan is the most ideal solution for us and that the benefits of a larger vehicle are negated due to increased costs and less manoeuvrability.
It’s important to plan your trip so you know where the Freedom sites are as well as the dump stations. The Koru 2st walkthrough we find gives good self containment for 3 days or slightly more if you don’t use a lot of on board water or the van’s wc too much. It’s wise to keep topped up just to be sure.
Thank you Sven and Arty for all you great kindness and support.
Mike and Val.
We rented a Koru 2ST Walk-through for a month long trip throughout the South island. I don't think I have ever been in a more poorly designed living space. There is so little storage space that 90% is consumed by the accessories. The audio system is laughably cheap and sounds terrible. I doubt any sound system could have overcome the wind noise, rattles, and tire noise at 100kph. Every thing about the unit was least-cost. The toilet has a wall 3 inches in front of it. A doll couldn't use the the thing.
We walked through similar size (and similar price) Sprinters from Brit and Maui which emphasized how poorly we had chosen. There are better alternatives. Don't waste your time and money.
We have booked a campervan traveler in March for 21 days and due to COVID all flight was cancel. For us it was impossible to visit New Zealand. When we ask for a refund Wenderkreisen reject any request and when we asked for the general sales conditions. they refund only 70% of the total amount. It is unbelievable and unacceptable in such word wide extreme situation that wenderkreisen refused to refund our money, all other company refund 100%.
Okay Wenderkreisen you stall us 800$ and for this I will give you the worst note I can give for this...
Take care of Wenderkreisen, they ask to pay everything in advance and when a problem occur you will never see you money anymore.
Our experience of hiring a campervan from Wendekreisen was excellent. Starting with their online quote system, which is comprehensive and informative, right through to the vehicle collection and the van itself, we could not fault their service. Our van was only about a year old, was reliable, and had clever, well designed systems and cabinetry to make the holiday experience smooth and comfortable. The cleaning of the van was exemplary - not a speck of dirt from previous campers. Would only ever hire from this company in the future.
excellent service, picked up and dropped off to airport. van was clean and no issues with it, free snow chains with insurance. easy to deal with. would rent from again in future.
Totally bad experience with Wendekreisen travel during Corona-Lockdown in March 2020. All other Campervan-rentals did take care of their customers and gave lots of important information immediately. Wendekreisen did this always later than others.
We couldn’t use the van for 3 weeks because of the earlier departure. We had to pay the full costs and got no credit (like other companies did) - never we do a travel with Wendekreisen again!!!

Wendekreisen staff was really very helpful in a tough situation (we were in NZ just during the Covid-19 containment period).
So many thanks to them
Excellent holiday experience in an amazing country. The van all worked fine, inspite of being larger than we were used to was straightforward to drive , even park. The camper was somewhat older than we had expected, so some fittings and equipment were tired, but no breakdowns or issues. Good advice on all sorts of points when choosing/planning which is not easy in different time zones. When dropping off and collecting it was good to have space to refresh ourselves when weary from the road. Overall not a cheap way of exploring a country, free sites were often full and infrequent, tourist attractions much pricier than expected, but fuel cheaper than UK. This company looked after us very well
This was the 4th time that I have used Wenderkreisen, and that in itself should give you confidence in selecting this company for your camper-van.
Easy website to navigate, great video descriptions of the vans ( for 2 people, go for the walk-through wagon, it's superb ) and the vans themselves have always been well appointed, spotlessly clean and easy to use. The service at the depots, both upon arrival and also at the end of your trip is friendly, provides exactly the information needed by the users and best of all, puts you at ease after a long flight.
Looking forward to our 5th trip with this company.
We were impressed with the cleanliness of these remote and unattended campsites. We were I think lucky to be a bit off peak season. Therefore we had plenty of space and no booking required. The Rankers app was very useful and well set up.
A great pleasure to tour NZ with a camper van.
It was very fantastic 😁🤗thank you very much
I had a Koru 2 Berth S/T in February/March 2018 for five weeks. Everything was as described on the website. The van was old, of course, but I knew this from the time of booking on, I have chosen it specifically and was not disappointed. From my arrival at Christchurch Airport (later than expected due to delays because of a cyclon the day before) till my drop off at Auckland Airport I felt always welcome. The staff at both depots was very helpful and kind. I had no issues during my travel, so I cannot say anything regarding problem solving. I had the All Inclusive Insurance and by the pick up the lady in Christchurch did not mark the dents on the window screen as this is covered in that insurance. As I knew the terms and conditions, I agreed to this, however we went thoroughly around the car and she marked every scratch and dent, I pointed out to her, if she did not notice them herself. All in all the pick up took me around one hour, maybe less, so the time was ok. The drop off was even faster, not even 30 minutes, a short walk around the car and the questions for full gas bottle, full water tank and fuel tank and empty waste water tank and I was shuttled in no time to the airport afterwards. There were no hidden costs or demands afterwards.
So I was totally satisfied and have booked already with this company again. The only reason it is just 9 of 10 is, that I rarely give full marks, as there is always room for improvement, but Wendekreisen is very near to the point of no improvement possible :-)
I can highly recommend them and I am looking forward to my next holiday with them in October.
Great service, great camper van !
The full Wenderkreisen service, providing a reliable, functional van that got us to so many amazing places in what is a magic country to explore. Also providing the Rankers app which played a huge part in planning and navigating our wonderful NZ trip . Many thanks
When I was looking for good deal to rent a camper van in New Zealand I found Wendekreisen after some research. We went for the "budget" option, where you rent an older van – makes it quite a bit cheaper of course and the van was really okay and reliable. But the main reason for my decision to book at Wendekreisen were the insurance modalities, which are a lot better when compared to other rental companies like for example Jucy. Unluckily we even ended up having a small accident during our trip, but the handling with Wendekreisen was easy and fair and the insurance did its job without any discussions. I can clearly recommend Wendekreisen!
Very good experience with Wendekreisen! The reservation process was smooth, the reservation team helpful, and the contact/communication with with the costumer service fast and efficient. The pick up process was also very smooth, and the staff friendly. We got a very recent campervan model, and therefore the interior and exterior status of the car was very pleasant. There are also some inclusions in the base fares at Wendekreisen that made the difference when choosing a campervan provider, as some expenses/services are extra in some other providers but included in Wendekreisen. I would definitely choose them again.
The team at Wendekreisen in Auckland was just amazing. Upon checking in, they spent time to go through everything and ensure we were all confident with our new home. The quality/price ratio is great and the support team was amazing.
They went above expectations when we were late returning due to traffic jam and waited for us. They even dropped our daughter's favorite blankie back at the hotel we were staying as we had forgotten it: simply excellent service from a dedicated team!
We hired a budget 6 berth from wendekreisen, and overall it was a pretty good experience. The staff in Auckland were very thorough in showing us how to work everything, and they had a good area inside the office with toys for our kids to play with while we did the paperwork (the Christchurch office was much smaller in this regard -only a consideration if you have small and energetic kids.)
We did have an issue with the van's water tank getting a hole, which had to be repaired. Unfortunately there was a fair bit of stuffing around because a lot of the service centres are only able to fix mechanical problems and not issues with the van's house systems. If this happens, best option might be to go to one of the major cities with a caravan specialist service centre. Wendekreisen did refund us for the days we spent sitting in mechanics waiting rooms, which was appreciated. Other than that we had no issues. Mechanically the van was fine (though very old and clunky to drive - as expected with an older budget model.) Bear in mind also, if you hire with a smaller company and something goes wrong with the van, they won't have as big a support network as the major companies.
One of the things I liked about wendekreisen was all the inclusions that some companies add as extras (eg outside table and chairs. ) Overall if was pretty good value for money.
We rented a campervan in September 2019 for 10 days, at all stages the staff were super helpful and the van was reliable and well equipped and had surprisingly good power up the hills. We had the highest level of insurance which had a $250 excess. Without going into massive detail, we had cause to use the insurance for a fairly minor issue, we were happy to pay the excess as it was a genuine accident ( repairs quoted at $460 ) but the company initially wanted us to pay the full repair amount under the list of exclusions ( careless ). We expect that the highest level of insurance offered ( it cost approximately a third of the total hire cost ) would cover us the same as comprehensive insurance for a private vehicle does. The company agreed to accept the $250 excess after discussions. Despite this (we would recommend looking into the insurance component of any vehicle hire), if insurance expectations are met, we would definitely rent with them in the future and highly recommend, Jan Aish
We had a very good experience with Wendekreisen. They picked us up at the airport and dropped us off without any problem. Check-in and check-out were good. We rented the Koru Star 2-Berth, which was just perfect for us as a couple. The central heating is very convenient when sleeping in cooler areas. If we would come back, we would definetly rent again at Wendekreisen.
From making the decision to go with Wendekreisen to leaving New Zealand post-trip they have been excellent. Their communication is clear, fast, and with very helpful tips and links along the way. The check-in was great and very informative (although this is where they lose the single point...making sure that the user manuals for the camper are clearly pointed out and ideally just left on a table would have helped clear a little stress early on after we left). The staff were lovely and the camper as advertised. We had the budget 6 berth and she did exactly what we needed. She's budget for a reason and as long as you understand that then you'll have a great time. It's like taking a mini truck about the place!! We were delayed by traffic getting back to drop off the camper and the lady dealing with us could not have been nicer, even though it meant her working until after 6 to get us sorted. We even left a cuddly toy at their office and she was kind enough to drop it back at our hotel before we even noticed it was gone. Fantastic job and we will definitely use again when we head back to NZ in the future!
Very old vans and awful costumer service. We rented an spoiled van a and they didnt refund us. We demanded at least to speak with the manager and he didnt even show his face...
Stay away from this company!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Aitor, thank you for leaving a review on every online page there is for reviews (at times 3 reviews on the same page). We cannot locate your booking in any of your names and we are wondering if your review is legitimate. We would like to assess what happened and communicate this within our team. Can you please make contact with us by email on email@example.com to have this resolved. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Travelling in the 6 Berth budget RV was a great experience and good value.
Fantastic customer service from Wendekreisen
We hired a Koru Freedom self contained campervan for 28 days and travelled both islands. The campervan was in very good condition, worked faultlessly for the entire period, was economical to run and met all our expectations. Having solar on the roof to charge the house batteries easily handled the power requirements and enabled us to freedom camp for almost our entire holiday, saving considerable expense. We found the staff at both pick up and drop off points very helpful and courteous. Would readily use this company again
Five minutes after picking up out hire vehicle we started having trouble with it, and it only got worse. After a few days we had to return to the place where we hired the vehicle, and had to wait several hours while it was repaired. Two more times during our holiday we had to have repairs made, once in a garage along the way, and once more back at the place where we hired the vehicle. We willdefintely come back to NZ for a holiday, but we will never again have anything to do with Wendekreisen.
We had a campervan Koru Star 2 Berth for 9 weeks, 5 weeks out of the Christchurch depot and 4 weeks out of the Auckland depot.
We had a really awesome experience with both location, personal was great and the vehicule was exactly as described on the website. All the equipment worked very well. During the trip on the north island we had an issue with a broken window which has been solved within 2 days. The staff did very well to organize a spare part so fast.
We spend really but really a lot of time to compare all campervans hire companies. Wendekreisen is giving definitively the best quality/price ratio,
I highly recommend
Thanks, merci and see you soon
WE purchased a campervan and on the way home it had a mechanical problem. we phoned the Christchurch depot and were given a contact no of their mechanic, he told us it was safe to travel home.
The problem was still there the next day,I then contacted the Manager and he was going on leave. He delegated the repair, the staff have been great, keeping use informed and organising a replacement part. We are very impressed with the company and their staff are very frenidly and helpful.
The manager contacted us on his return giving us an update on progress. Great company.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Bruce, thank you for sharing your purchasing experience with the greater public. We have worked extremely hard to build a solid reputation in the pre-owned campervan sales market. Whenever there is an oversight we will be at your side to have issues resolved to the satisfaction of both sides. After all, balance is part of our mission statement and we will support you in every step of owning an ex-rental Wendekreisen vehicle. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We bought a used 2017 LDV Camper Van from Wenderkreisen & have found the company great to deal with. As particular clients we cannot fault the service we have received from Wenderkreisen. Nothing has been a problem for them, communication is A1.
We like the quality build of these campers(plywood not MDF cabinetry), good layout design & quality components, the fact that the do provide the service history (unlike RV super Center) to give us peace of mind etc, & were happy to do any servicing work so that the camper is top shape with no maintenance work needed in the next year or two.
These guys genuinely care about their customers & we highly recommend them.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Jon, thank you for the wonderful feedback. We are very glad you like the quality of your Walkthrough Campervan and will be at your service whenever you need support with your New Zealand Made Wendekreisen conversion. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We hired a camper van for 3 months. From initial communication via emails, the pick-up in Christchurch to the return in Auckland, Wendekreisen's customer service was impeccable! Vehicle was in very good condition and everything works perfectly during our trip around North and South Island. We can definitely highly recommend the company.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Urs, thank you for providing such a great feedback as a summary of your 3 month holiday in our vehicle. We are very happy you had a fabulous time and that our services stacked up to your expectations. We shall share your feedback with our team. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Crew
I have used Wendekreisen 3 times now and always find them friendly, professional and helpful.
I always hire from the budget range so do not expect pristine vehicles, but they are always functional, clean and reliable.
One minor breakdown, and was on our way within 2 hours thanks to the extensive repair network and phone support.
Highly recommend and already planning trip 4.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Paul, thank you so much for your positive review. We shall share this information with our staff and are happy that we could provide a great service.
We are most definitely looking forward to welcome you a 4th time at Wendekreisen. Best regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Negative: Small burner on stove would not stay lit. Toilet flush water button kept toilet pump running continually on 2nd day of rental. Pump finally stopped after 7 minutes.. Only option was to hand flush the rest of the trip with water from the sink. Power cord connection at van was corroded and seized to power cord on 3rd day. Connection at van had no cap and is exposed to elements. Toilet Cassette door was very hard to open. The sliding door was very hard to close tight. Top shower door hinge very loose. Had to buy duct tape and add to hinge to keep the door from breaking. Black water Cassette area not sealed from shower toilet area. Our first cassette leaked and sewage from cassette leaked into shower. Cassette was replaced on 2nd day.
Very poor orientation of the van at Christchurch. Was charged twice. I paid in advance and without notice, was charged again after I left Christchurch. After 13 days, finally got an apology and a refund on the 2nd charge. Had a flat tire on the weekend. I had to change the tire myself. All authorized agents were closed until Monday. Had to drive for two days without a spare. Customer changing tires was not stated in the contract. It is stated in the manual provided at pickup. The jack had no instructions and the van did not show where to put the jack under the van. Freedom camping in NZ is far from free. Most places you want to camp is designated as a no freedom camping zone and camp sites cost anywhere from $13 to $50 per person with or without power.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Robert, thank you for leaving a feedback here on Rankers as well as numerous other sites. Yes your toilet flush pump failed several days into your hire and during the easter period. We have not had any mention regarding the power cord during your hire but we have passed on your feedback to our pre-hire-check team in both branches to ensure this is monitored just in case. We have explained to you that the double charge was an error on our behalf and have immediately refunded the funds. We are sincerely sorry for this mishap and there was no intend to do so. Yes, we do assume that people can change a spare tyre as New Zealand does not offer convenient service centres in all locations. The spare could not be changed until you were able to do so due to public holidays over Easter. Camping sites can be a lot cheaper. We did send you a link prior to your departure with a discounted rate for DOC sites. These sites are run by the department of conservation and funds are used to protect and manage environmental resources in New Zealand. With that discount, you can get these sites at a cost of less than $4 per day/person. We apologise if Wendekreisen has not lived up to your expectations. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
From initial communication via emails, to the return trip to the airport, Wendekreisen's customer service was impeccable! The campervan was clean and comfortable. We had a few minor issues along the way, and were able to resolve them without too much interruption to our trip. Wendekreisen was always responsive with maintenance issues.
Suggestion: Some of the basic operations of the van could be better explained in the guide book such as an illustration of the master circuit breaker. (An acronym used in the book made no sense to us.)
Overall, we had a fantastic time in Aotearoa and Wendekreisen was a big contributor to that! A shout out to Cila, the best example of customer service we have ever experienced. She is kind, caring, expresses genuine empathy, listens, and has a warmth about her that is reassuring.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Beverly, thank you for this fantastic feedback ! Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Great staff, easy check-in, free shuttle to airport, well equipped & well maintained camper vans & insurance excess options are more reasonable than many of their competitors. Will definitely use them again.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Pauline, we greatly appreciate you taking the time to leave this wonderful feedback in regard to your experience with Wendekreisen. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
gute Adresse, alles lief reibungslos und unkompliziert ab, gerne wieder
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Hallo Martin, vielen Dank fuer Ihren Review. Wir freuen uns das alles gut geklappt hat und das Sie Ihren Urlaub in vollen Zuegen geniessen konnten. Mit lieben Gruessen Ihr Wendekreisen Team.
Friendly staff. Vehicle in good condition and everything works perfectly during our wk long trip around North Island. Well equipped with linen, towels and kitchen appliances. Recommend to anyone looking for a value for money camper.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Chim, thank you very much for sharing your positive experience and recommendation. We would love to welcome you again ! Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Really great experience. We hired 2 camper vans for 10 days and had a brilliant time travelling around the South Island, the vans were spacious, reliable, warm and comfortable for both travelling around in and sleeping in. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Also, we found these vans to be great value, another friend of ours who hired through a different company paid more and got a far smaller van. I would have no hesitation in recommending Wenderkreisen to other travelers.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Michael, thank you for commending our service and campervan rentals. Feedback such as yours is highly motivating and will be shared among our team. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Very satisfied. Everything was as expected.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Peter, we greatly appreciate you sharing your experience here at Rankers. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We had the Wendekreisen Koru 2 XL and travelled both islands Christchurch to Auckland for about 6 weeks. Our vehicle was well presented with good equipment and outstanding customer service in both branches. We had a very good experience with this company and will not hesitate to recommend them.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Great range of campers. Ours was a bit old (600k+ km) but my brother who rented at the same time got one that only had 44km on it! Van was very comfortable - although as we are both very tall (6ft plus) the beds were on the small side but we knew that would be the case. Loved having all the camping gear, linen towels etc provided - we literally turned up and took off. Will definitely rent through them again.
Wir bekamen sogar Sätze wie :" I don't want to talk to you anymore" oder "You should keep god damn calm" stets abgewürgt.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Sehr geehrter Herr Schneider, vielen Dank fuer Ihr Feedback.
Sehr nettes Personal, saubere Wagen, preis-leistung ok
From booking until finishing our
Trip everything was great
Nice people, equipment (4 berth) 13 years old and with very limited comfort. No technical issues, though. Overall experience just OK for three weeks.
Great company. No problems, friendly crew.
We recently hired a camper van for 7 days to travel around Mount Cook snd Christchurch. Jumped online before we left and brought a pass. Best thing I did. Saved heaps of $$ and did not have to worry about having money to pay when we got to the site
Kerrie & Mark
Vehicle was clean on collection and ready to go. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Vehicle was as described and drove well although one of their older cheaper ones, it was what I wanted. Bed cushions were really comfortable, we bought a topper and thinner duvet/cover though. Van needed a chopping board and a frying pan with a lid would of been good, also pasta bowl size dishes, which we bought. Van drove well for the 4 weeks we hired it. A solar panel would be good for battery top up during off grid camping as fridge doesn’t have the gas function. 2 niggles: wiper wash did not function and disconnected starter motor solenoid needed a break down call out and hire company repaired the following day and returned 1/2 day hire loss. All in all very satisfied and made a good holiday.
1-When I booked the campervan with Wendekreisen they sent me a lot of very binding rules, but they didn't advice us that in NZ foreigners need an International Driving License.
2-The very fat woman at the reception had a very bad attitude against me.
3-They rented to me a very bad quality campervan: it was in good conditions but was a very bad designed made in China Haval project; the bed was too short for me (I am a cm 175 tall person); to go from the drive cabin to the back, and the other way around, you cannot pass inside the campervan: you have to stop the vehicle, to exit outside and to open the other part from outside; everything inside is in a uncomfortable position; the TV inside as idle because had no aerial; the back-store for chords and chairs was stinking horribly: I had to stop breathing when I had to open it.
To live 10 days inside that vehicle was a very bad experience. If you need a campervan in NZ stay away from Wendekreisen!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your review. The rules regarding your drivers licence were not made by us. In NZ all drivers must be able to present a drivers license in the English language. A translation is sufficient. We have informed you about this in our email correspondence and explain this on our website. We do not appreciate your derogatory comments regarding our staff. These are not appropriate nor true and we have many customers commending our front desk staff. Although the empty van was built in China, we fit out the interior in our very own factory in Auckland. The materials used are of a very high quality and sourced here in New Zealand only. In fact our entire LDV fleet is accredited 'New Zealand Made' product and we are very proud of this. The rear bed is 1.83m long and 1.80m wide so should have accommodated your length easily. We have 3 seater LDV campervans and 2-seater campervans. The difference is a change in layout to accommodate a 'Walkthrough' from the front to the rear in 2-seater versions. Again, we advertise a layout plan with each vehicle in 4 different languages. We are unsure why you did not realise that there are 4 different models. All of our LDV units are fitted with a TV aerial but reception is limited to suburban areas only as otherwise a satellite dish is needed in NZ. It seems like a lot of your dissatisfaction could have been resolved through communication. We regret you did not enjoy our vehicle. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
5 Star service from the woman running the Auckland Depot! She’s a superstar. The van itself was great; clean with all linens and kitchen supplies. We had a Budget 4Berth which was obviously an older model (the newer ones were all booked). So understandably, there were quirks:
-very little power uphill! Beware and expect this going up those windy turns
-2nd gear on our van sometimes had issues; car would die sometimes
-hot water didn’t work but we were told later sometimes you need to click the button on and off before it catches
All in all we liked our van and this rental company. Will definitely rent from them on our next trip!
We had a very positive experience with Wendekreisen. The correspondence and communication from the beginning of planning our trip to the end of our journey was very good. We had an older van, it was in good condition, ran well and was comfortable. I would suggest if you prefer a softer mattress to bring a mattress topper with you. We would choose Wendekreisen in the futureto travel to the South Island.
We are very satisfied about Wendekreisen Travel. We have rented a good camper for a good price. Also the customerservice at Auckland was at a high level. Thanks for all of that ! Kind regards, Sybren Renema
We hired one of the 4 berth budget vans for 5 weeks.
We found everyone we dealt with in the company, whether it was by email, phone or in person, to be very helpful and friendly, before, during and at the end of our stay.
The campervan was brilliant- it may have been a little slower up some of the mountains than newer vans, but that didn't matter to us! It was well kitted out with everything from bedding to pots, pans and cutlery etc. and got us everywhere we wanted to go.
We'd thoroughly recommend hiring from Wandekreisen and we intend to do so again, as we'll definitely be back!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Hello Patricia, thank you very much! We are looking forward to meeting you again.
I cannot recommend Wendekreisen. We had a stationwagen + roof tent, which was not exactly in perfect condition, but it seemed alright for the road trip to come. Problems arised on the second day, when the car would not start anymore. Support was quick to come over and replace the battery, but they were also quick to place the blame on us by accusing us of leaving the lights on (thus draining the battery), which we didn't do as we drove only by daylight and had no need for the lights.
On the fourth day, the speedo light and rear lights failed, and we needed to take the car to a garage. This forced us to stay one night and nearly had us miss our great walk reservation the following day. Still, the car could not be fixed and needed to be replaced, which cost us even more time, as a promised call-back about the meeting place was not made.
When we wrote an email to complain about the trouble and dared to ask for some kind of compensation, Wendekreisen did not exactly prove open to criticism. The even went as far as making false statements about the car's roof tent, forcing us to take pictures and prove them wrong about the functionality of their own cars (!). This is a no-go in our opinion and left a shady impression.
The company has low-cost offers, which may be alright if the car does not break apart. The support was also okay, but the whole experience left a sour taste somehow.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Jonas, we are sorry that you feel this way about us, but this is only your side of the story. I would like to point out, that I personally was dealing with your multiple emails. You demanded a substantial refund after your vehicle return. I checked again and again your claims. Each time I gave you the benefit of the doubt, beside the fact that you made it clear, that you intend to expose us/me on social media if we don't give in. As one can see below, Wendekreisen did not let this get in the way when making the decisions in this case.
1. The car did not start because you left the park light on. Known to you or not, but this was noticed by the mechanic that we sent out to attend to your problem. You refused to accept his findings and instead accused us of sending you out with a faulty battery, which does not make any sense. The charge for the call out like this is NZ$200.00.
2. There was later a problem with the cars dashboard ( you referring to it as speedo light?). We organized a replacement car from our Depot to your location - 2.5 hours away. You called us back before we even had time to prepare the car, get a driver and a way of return for him. We agree that this problem took time of your holiday, hence we noted a compensation of a day worth of hire NZ$115.75
3. Your accusation that we do not know our cars and roof tents is simply false. You claim that you could not detach the cover of your roof tent. Instead you thought it would be right to have a large cover hanging down, flapping in the wind, damaging the car. Common sense would tell anyone that this can not be the intended way of usage, a call to us would have cleared this up in a minute,
Considering the whole,we believe that there was no reason to offer you more refund above not charging you for the call out costs. We are sure that everyone reading can follow our logic of instead refunding you $115.75, we decided to not charge you $200 call out fee.
Kind regards, the Wendekreisen Team
Our van while not fancy served our purpose. If I had to do it again I would have rented a diesel van due to the price of gas vs diesel. I don’t think having a shower in the van helped as I found we either had a shower in the campground or a river or lake to use.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for the review and great advise to travelers. Diesel is cheaper but there can be a bill at the end of a hire. Nearly all rental companies charge the Diesel Road User Fees of about NZ$6 per 100km. Wendenkreisen has these costs included in the daily rate. Kind regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Our first choice was unavailable, but we rearranged, for a discount.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you, we are glad that our alternative option worked for you. Your Wendekreisen Team
We rented one of the new model 'Koru Star 2ST Freedom' campervans for 4 weeks, and it was perfect. Coupled with the friendly, helpful staff at Wendekreisen which we encountered throughout, we can definitely highly recommend the company. Thank you Wendekreisen!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Kia Ora Paul. Thank you so much. We are very happy that you liked our new vehicles as much as we do and that our friendly staff completed your great experience with us. Kind regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We enjoyed two weeks on the North Island in a VW diesel small motorhome. It was over 10 years old with lots of creeks and groans but mechanically worked great. A little expensive for what we got. The only problem we had was a way to short explanation of how everything worked. We have our own motorhome but this one had a few quirks. We never did get the radio to work. The old refrigerator actually woke us up at night.
From start to finish the campervan hire was excellent, customer service and communication superb. price was also amazing for what we got. Fantastic and we would definitely hire from them again and highly reccommend them to anyone
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you Anastasia. We hope to see you again in New Zealand. Your Wendekreisen Team
Great experience with the Volkswagen T5 from Wendekreisen. Smaller, age-related quirks but nothing that worried us. Vehicle seems to be well maintained and in good condition for its age. Communication with "Wendekreisen" always great. Price-performance ratio is very good. We had two great months and can strongly recommend Wendekreisen as camper rental companie.
We can't express how fantastic Wendekreisen were from our initial enquiry to collecting our campervan and enjoying the most perfect 11 week trip around New Zealand. We hired a Koru 2 Star Walk Through. I would recommend the walkthrough so that if you have rain you do not have to leave the cab. We were a party of 2 and on collection our van was brand new out of the showroom. The king size bed was super comfortable, sheets, pillows, duvet all cleaned and wrapped. 2 gas burner hob, sink, hot and cold water, rotating toilet in shower room. 2 slide out storage cupboards. surround storage cupboards above dining/seating area. Huge storage drawer in the back. TV although we only found 5 places that received a signal in 11 weeks! this did not bother us. Fridge with small ice box that never let us down. 2 kettles, one to use on electric if hooked up, along with toaster, coffee pots etc. All pots, pans, crockery, cutlery. A diesel campervan, excellent mileage, drove beautifully, only slight struggle was driving to the Crown Range Summit, the highest sealed road in NZ, everyone struggled getting up there! Very comfortable front seats with armrests. We chose the comprehensive insurance which came with Sat Nav included. Easy to park anywhere and easy to drive on and off the ferry. One evening in very rainy Milford Sound we had a small leak through the sky light, next day we were passing through TeAnau and the lovely man at the named Caltex garage added mastic within 10 minutes, never had any other issues.
We did a huge amount of research when hiring a campervan, we were so very pleased that we chose Wendekreisen in Auckland. We collected the van here, drove almost 10,000km and returned it here, we could not have been happier. Added bonus is that Wendekreisen do not charge diesel tax, the company pay this, unlimited mileage. We will be back!
We have hired the Koru 2+1 Berth and were fully satisfied with the condition of the campervan and the service of Wendekreisen.
During our trip we detected a hole along the grey water tank for which reason we lost all our water.
After having a call with a very helpful technician he suggested us a workshop where to go to get the tank repaired. The costs have been fully absorbed by Wendekreisen.
We were very happy with the great support and can recommend Wendekreisen for 100%. Great service, faire prices and good insurance model.
Sehr zufrieden. Unkompliziert und freundlicher Kontakt. Fahrzeuge sauber und gepflegt.
Buen servicio. Vehículo en condiciones. Muchas gracias
Jan Paul Raterink
We knew beforehand that the 4-berth campervan we would get would be 2006 or newer. It turned out to be actually from 2006 with 500.000 kms on the clock, we were a little disappointed. A 12 year old mattress is a bit worn out... And a 2006 diesel engine is a bit loud... To be fair: the price we paid was not so high, so perhaps we got what we paid for...
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Jan-Paul, thank you for your feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that you were a little disappointed in our 4-berth Motor-home. We replace the mattresses and covers every 5 years and use Dunlop and Warwick materials to ensure good quality. We have now ordered your vehicle to be reviewed to replace worn components if necessary. We are currently developing a new 4 berth model to satisfy those customers seeking a newer vehicles at a higher rental cost by summer 2019. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
BEWARE RIP OFF!!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Family2018, thank you for your feedback in German. Family 2018 states that the Koru 2+1 campervan they hired had a few scratches, that the handbrake did not work as best as possible, that one side of the gas stove would not ignite and that one speaker did not work. They were very dissatisfied that on drop off, a dent was found in the passenger door which was charged at the insurance excess of $250. They now feel that Wendekreisen wanted to make an additional 'quick' buck at the end of their hire.
Firstly, we apologise if our campervan did not meet your expectations. We would like to mention that Family2018 did not make contact with us throughout the duration of their rental. It is difficult to attend shortcomings if we are not being made aware of them and we supply a freephone number as well as a NZ SIM card for these purposes. Our Koru 2+1 vehicles are well serviced and pre-hire-checked with 6-monthly certificate of fitness inspections both of which include the handbrake system. We would have liked to be given the opportunity to repair any shortcomings including those with the cooker ignition and the radio speaker. Regarding the dent in the passenger door, you have completed and signed a damage report at collection. At the time of drop off, we presented to you with 2 X damage reports of previous customers which showed no damage in that area. However, we are now reviewing your case again to ensure any possibility of oversight is eliminated. Our customer services staff will contact you via email. It is never our intend to charge for damages you did not cause. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
I was expecting to be able to shower in the campervan and thus do a lot of freedom camping. However, I discovered that my fresh water system had a leak in it, and as a result I was unable to use the shower, and only had enough water for cooking and cleaning up. This meant I had to spend more time in camp grounds adding to my costs. Other than that the van was good.
Just spent 3 weeks touring north and south island in Wendekreisen camper. fantastic experience. Camper was spotlessly clean on collection, worked perfectly and was a pleasure to live with - shame we had to give it back. Staff were very helpful with advise before the trip, and made collection and drop off easy. Defo recommended, and would use again tomorrow if we could. Thanks. Pete & Heidi
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Peter and Heidi, thank you for the excellent feedback and recommendation. Pleasure to be of assistance here and if you ever hire again, we would be more than happy to help out. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Well organised, reliable and welcoming renter of Campervans.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear John, thank you very much for the positive feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday ! Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Have hired campers before through big companies that really don’t give a damn.
Finally a company that gives complete personal service. From when I booked the emails and questions I asked were acted upon immediately. The staff at Christchurch depot were thorough when we arrived. Bridget and Camden were fantastic. We had no issues apart from our Tom Tom being stuck in German language.
I’ll be recommending you guys to Aussies
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Trevor, as a family we have spend a lot of effort to ensure the terms are favourable and that we serve with balance in the interest of our staff, customers and suppliers. Thank you very much for leaving an excellent review, we are glad you enjoyed your holiday. The GPS should have been reset to factory defaults and we have passed this on to our depots. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Wenderkreisen was great to book with. Reliable and friendly
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Philip, it is great to hear you had a friendly and reliable experience. We really appreciate your review ! Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
A very positive experience, and when we are coming back to NZ, we are likely to use your company again
Van drove well, without any issues
Engine was frugal with getting 10 km or much more, out of one liter of diesel
LPG gas heater was only used twice for an hour, but worked well
Fridge worked very well
Hot water system worked well, and kept water hot until next morning
When not running the engine, there was enough charge in the batteries for 48 hours, still using the fridge but using lights frugally
Shower and toilet worked well
Bed was comfortable, duvet was warm
Your staff (Arti) at the Auckland depot was very helpful
We tried to use the TV once, but could not receive any stations, however that was not an issue for us
We never tried the plug-in an external power lead
We have not tried the outside table and chairs, but I must say the chairs didn’t look too comfy
We never had to use the tools, fire-extinguisher, first aid kit
I am sure you realise that standing room in those vans (LVD80) is minimal. I guess that if you were renting this out to a couple that would weigh more than 125 kg each, then this van would not be big enough. Just wondering…….:)
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Lesley, thank you for leaving a very positive review. This is greatly appreciated. The standing room in our LDVs is 1.85m, tall enough for most and limited by the size of the vehicle. The TV requires tuning in each location. We agree the tables and chairs are not the most comfortable but practical in their application. They also last for a very long time (aluminium frame) and are manufactured by special needs people as part of a charity organisation here in New Zealand. The tables and chairs therefore support a local charity organisation and reduce plastic waste which is great for the environment. Alternative folding chairs last 1-2 hires and we decided to abolish them after discarding container loads of chairs after minimal use. Thank you again and all the best...Your Wendekreisen Team.
Good service. All inclusive. No hidden extras. Very helpful.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank for supporting us here Steve ! Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Justin and kim Webber
We did the whole South Island for 3 weeks In a 4 berth. Had the best holiday. No major problems with the van. Second time we’ve used these guys and will use them agaain and against highly recommend. Cheers guys Justin and kim 🍻
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Justin and Kim, thank you so much for your 10/10 review here. These hands on contributions really help our team and make it all so much fun ! Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Our van was almost brand new, it drove perfect and had lots of power. We averaged 9.5 L/100km over 2300kms. Staff were helpful and the whole pickup/drop off experience went smooth and quick. Only reason I'm not rating higher is because I didn't like the way the interior is set up.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Anonymous, following numerous feedback for newer vehicles, we have now introduced in excess of 100 brand new campervans in 4 different layouts. We will be tackling larger units from 1st April 2019 and will offer these at very affordable rates in the future. Thank you so much for the positive feedback on here, it is these efforts that promote what we do and motivate our teams to keep at it. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
Comprehensive website gave good info.
Couldn't supply my 1st choice van, so gave discount on 2nd choice.
Thorough run through of van operation and features on pick-up.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Ron, our apologies for not being able to supply your first choice van. Demand has been extremely positive this year and our fleet availability was booked significantly earlier than in previous years. We are now building campervans full-time all year round to satisfy this demand long-term so things should improve. Thank you for thisreview and thank you for commending our personalised service at collection. Whilst many others have automated this via videos, we stick to instructions by human beings. We feel that this is greatly appreciated by our customers. Again thank you for reviewing our family business on here. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
Good company to hire from.
Staff were very friendly.
Heater failed to work in campervan.stoped us from doing freedom camping.we had to book in to holiday parks every night.
We were given a small amount of money back as compensation. It should have been a bit more.
Overall we had a great holiday, we would use this company again.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Tony, great to hear you had a wonderful holiday. The LPG gas heaters depend on at least 11.5V power to start the ignition and require resets from time to time. In over 90% of these cases these issues can be resolved over the telephone. We are open for suggestions regarding compensation but will take a balanced approach to each case. We apologise if you feel you did not receive sufficient compensation. Again, your 8/10 feedback is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We have experienced a great winter holiday for the second time with our family in a 6 berth camper van from Wendekreisen. I can highly recommend it. Clean, warm vehicle, hassle free take over and drop off, free shuttle from airport and very easy company to deal with! Looking forward to another trip with Wendekreisen !
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Anja, thank you very much for sharing your 6-Berth experience with Wendekreisen. A 10/10 rating for larger vehicles is a great achievement and we are extremely grateful for your feedback. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
The best experience of renting a vehicle I have had. The staff where extremely friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I’m beyond happy with the customer service they provided and without a doubt will rent from them again.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Kelcey, to put it plain, we are 'stoked' about your feedback. To achieve a best and exceeding your expectations is all we could have hoped for. Thank you for your highly motivating review which is shared with the team. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
After spending a wonderful 10 weeks in a Wendekreisen Kora 2 star walkthrough I would not hesitate to recommend them. I did a lot of research and found W to be competitive on price and many items charged as extras with other companies were included. Also no hidden nastys at collection or return . Our van was 6 months old and extremely comfortable and warm over the winter months . The shower was super hot and powerful and the battery Easily coped with 2-3 days freedom camping. The TV has a USB port which was excellent as we bought a number of movies downloaded . We are both quite ‘small’ adults (5.3 and 5.6) and found the van big enough but a taller couple may be more comfortable in a bigger model
Van was quite old (reconditioned Maui stock), serviceable but quite uncomfortable (eg: centre bed slat missing and 65psi tyre pressures are not good for rattly kitchen equipment or passengers!)
Incorrect vehicle dimensions on safety sticker, which could have been a problem with ferry bookings.
Internal fittings tired/worn such as igniters not working on two of four gas rings, loose grill door (more noise!), missing slats as above, key locks difficult to operate due to wear, equipment tray in console stuck open, leisure battery not bolted down.
Vehicle had a distinct pull to the left and obvious tyre wear as a result of corrective steering on outside of front left tyre. I had to adjust my driving hand position frequently to relieve the muscle ache this caused.
That said, it was reliable, the cruise control was very helpful on long runs, the water and LPG capacity was more than enough for 5 adults.
Wendekreisen themselves were really helpful, especially while booking the vehicle and ferry from the UK, and efficient during both collection and return. We got our full deposit back.
We booked a campervan immatriculation HNJ118 for 25 nights end of april.Unfortunatly, rankers do not give us enough space to write about the full experience, I can't summarize everything that happened in details. If you give me more space i would be glad to do so.
In short as long as the van is recent and you don’t have any serious issues, it’s like all the comments we have seen so far about the company, you can come back anytime. But keep in mind that if you are about to rent an old van (450,000km), you can face a lot of issues and lose some days which won’t be compensated. You may need to have a local internet connection and cell phone if you don’t want to be charged extra by your service provider back home as you have to be ready to spend hours on the phone and sending emails, waiting sometimes for days for the appropriate reply. Most importantly make sure you get everything confirmed in writting because phone calls and promises are easily forgotten when money is at stake.
The only thing we regret is not to have read all the other comments matching ours before booking the van about the company, and we are glad to know that we are not the only people who had this kind of issues. Before booking, make sure your understand what you can face and maybe it would worth spending a little more to avoid people ignoring you and lying to you when serious issues are coming (water tank leaking after 12 liters only which was confirmed by a garage from the company list, forced to go to the dumping station every day in order to be self contained, forced to drive with orange warning on the dash board, liters of water infiltrating in the sliding door during heavy rains. Many promises made on the phone while still in the country but no compensation at all in the end, once we left. Their own garage tested everything to be just fine by miracle after we left.
We had some minors issues that they solved very quickly we have to admit that and tthey were very nice in the very first days.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Nicolas, thank you for leaving a feedback at Rankers. We understand that you are frustrated and that you are sharing your experience in several forums as a duplicate copy and paste. We feel that your statements are neither factual nor accurate. Wendekreisen does operate vehicles in this mileage group yet all of these have been refurbished and are in a great condition. We operate fleets ranging from a year of make in 2004 to our most recent 2018 models. We do care and we do try our best to resolve any shortcomings of our vehicles. Almost half of our fleet is less than 3 years old. You contacted us with several shortcomings and we did promptly send you to our contractor/workshop on the road. Our freephone number is available to New Zealand numbers only and it is not possible to call our freephone number from an overseas phone. The assessment notes of your vehicle state 'After checking everything the mechanic found out that the waste water tank was full and just needed to be emptied. They cleared some codes and did a test drive, there were no performance issues.' We also have email correspondence proving both, that we were available by phone and email and that several contractors could not fault our tank or systems. Our contractors are very competent, they inspect and repair campervans on a daily basis and as such we have no reason to doubt their statements. All responses were sent to you in a timely and prompt manner, advising you to make contact should any issues reoccur or should you require further assistance. The tests were not carried out by us, they were done by several different contractors in different locations. None found faults described in your feedback. We apologise if you did not enjoy your holiday. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
Overall a great experience. We hired a Koru 6 Berth Motorhome for 27 days. The motorhome itself had a few dings and dents and cosmetically looked alot old than expected but it drove well, was fuel efficient, roomy and served us well. We found it to be great value for money particulary because the price paid included all diesel tax, credit card fees etc. Would definately hire with Wendekreisen again.
Had a wonderful month in New Zealand travelling both islands in our camper van. Wendekreisen Travel made sure we were well equipped for the winter conditions we were about to face. In addition to an online training sight for New Zealand driving, they assisted us in obtaining DOC camping permits as well as tickets for the ferry crossing to the south island. They provided us with a few extras like chains, a gps, and even a satellite dish! I highly recommend them.
With so many options for rental companies out there, I felt our experience with Wendekreisen could not have been any better, and likely not with a competitor. We had everything we needed, didn’t feel like we were being nickel and dimed for extra add in’s. Much of what was included in the price would have been extra with other companies. So I appreciated knowing the total cost up front with no surprises at check in or out. The staff was friendly and explained everything. We had no issues on our 2 week holiday and very much enjoyed exploring the South Island in a camper.
We bought a 3 berth campervan off Wendekreisen, the process was made very easy by the Team at Wendekreisen, the staff we very friendly and professional, the communication was excellent and everything that they said would happen did happen and all within the promised time frame, we are extremely happy with Wendekreisen’s service and we were presented with our campervan in excellent condition and sparkling clean, we couldn’t have asked for anymore, our heart felt thanks to Sascha and his team at Wendekreisen, excellent work.

It’s so helpfull for travellers around the globe. Keep it up
We hired a Koru Star S/T for a month from mid march until mid april 2018 for our tour around both islands of NZ. We picked up the van in Auckland and dropped it off in Christchurch. We also travelled with another couple who also hired the same type of vehicle from Wendekreisen. The vehicle was approximately 3 years old, easy to drive and very economical. This size van (6 metres) has the advantage of being able to fit in to most car park spaces and so is very versatile and convenient in comparison to larger vehicles. For the first day we found it a bit small, but soon adjusted to the space and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our holiday! This van has all that you need to travel around NZ.
We found Wendekreisen very easy to deal with, both in the booking, during the hire and follow up communications. ALL of the staff we dealt with were very competent, friendly and would do all they could to make our holiday a pleasant one.
Would I hire a motorhome from them again? Absolutely!
We had a Koru S/T XL 2 berth campervan for 4 weeks while traveling around the south island New Zealand. This was our first experience at this type touring in a campervan. Overall we were quite happy with the overall experience. New Zealand is obviously a beautiful place to travel, the scenery is fabulous, and the people were friendly and helpful. As far as the campervan itself it performed quite well in terms of the chassis/engine/transmission. There were a few minor annoyances such as water leak around windshield and bathroom fan, stove burner that would barely work, and USB plugs that didn't work. But, since we knew going in that we would be using a slightly older model vehicle these would seem to be some things that might be expected. When we balanced the minor annoyances against the overall price for the rental, we were quite satisfied.
One thing that we did learn during this trip was that the next time we head out on such a trip, we will try to go with a larger campervan. The unit we had did work OK for us but since we had it for 4 weeks, it got to be a little bit of a bother having to take town the table each night to get the bed ready for sleeping and then put it back up each morning. For the first couple of weeks this routine was OK but then it started to be a bit of a hassle. Would probably recommend that when reserving a campervan, folks should try to look at the overall layout and not focus simply on the number of people that the vehicle will accommodate.
We had nothing but good experience with wendekreisen on our 20 day tour with a budget 4 berth. It was incredibly clean upon check in and they were able to answer any questions about technical and interior cabin items. Very caring company which clearly wants their clients to be happy. Will be looking to rent again if we ever make it back down to NZ.
Wendekreisen - never again
For five weeks in March/April 2018 we booked a Volkswagen LT-conversion Koru 2B xl. As expected the old camper with about 450000km on the clock had lots of small dents, scratches and repaired spots all over. The body repairs had been carried out in very basic quality (fitment of passenger and rear doors allowed rainwater to poor in, resprays without proper masking etc.), but the mecanical side of the car was ok. Engine was running smooth, did not burn oil, gearbox shifting was easy.
BUT there are some issues that disqualify this company from our point of view:
- No backups
When we arrived at the Christchurch depot to collect the camper we were informed that the van is not ready, because of some body damages caused during the prior rental.
This company hires out their campers without any time in between two rentals to fix up shortcomings.
Our van had to go for inspection also (beside the body repair) and due to a worn front axle got a wheel alignment. Before the previous rental the car had an alignment also.... Although we were refunded for one day and got a car we lost one holiday and had to pay for accomodation.
We met a lot of people with similar experiences (a couple from USA had to wait till their camper had to be inspected, others had an accident on their first day of rental and received a car with roof-top-tent for some days befor they managed to rent an camper from a different company... Just to name a few examples).
-Bad customer care
The lady at the Christchurch depot (Liza?) was totally offended as we were not satisfied with her offer of refunding for one day an let a car. Initially she refused to organize accomodation for our day lost.
One of the mecanics showed unacceptable behavior by shouting at me using rude language.
My advice: Read the fine print of the hiring contract before booking!!! You will have to sign a lot of pages and too much "is to the sole discretion of Wendekreisen" if problems occur.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback at Rankers. We feel condition of this fleet is very good for its age and mileage. These vehicles have been well cared for with panels in good shape, upholstery upgraded and curtains replaced. Yes, we agree, our vehicles get damaged at times and we do try to repair these damages as soon as practically possible.
Holding backup vehicles is not a viable option. We do try to accommodate backups but these often end up being partly hired in the end. March/April is still a period in which we are fully booked. New Zealand is seasonal (mid Oct - mid April) and fairly quiet in winter (May - Oct). This seasonality applies to most operators and it can be difficult to find a replacement vehicle in mid-season. We are not aware of other operators holding back vehicles for 'Backup'.
Unfortunately, we cannot look up your booking to investigate your comments relating to customer care due to the name displayed here. The folks at Wendekreisen Travel were excellent to communicate with up until the evening before we were due to pick up our campervan (which we had booked 6 months ahead.) Unfortunately, we were informed that our campervan (the one the company assigned us) had a couple of problems and was not ready as it had failed the safety. We were told there were a couple of options we could discuss with them to get us on our way. We were sidelined by the only option given which was to use their ‘courtesy coach’ an old Toyota Hiach van instead. This situation was supposed to be resolved that evening or next morning when we were told they would swap out the van for the camper. The campervan failed another safety the next day too. We ended up driving the old van for almost three days (and having to book accommodation last minute) which seriously interferred with our planned itinerary (although, to be fair a cyclone had hit NZ the day after we landed in Christchurch which had us changing it anyway!) I guess a campervan holiday in NZ has become very popular even after the main season (we had booked for Feb 21) as apparently there were no replacement campervans anywhere in Christchurch that we could have been given. Fortunately, the old 2004 Mazda Budget 2 Berth camper got us through our three week trip of about 7,000 kms, despite having over 500,000 kms on the clock when we finally got it. Conclusion for Wendekreisen, please communicate clearly every step of the way with your customers, as the situation we faced wasn’t something we even thought possible! Lesson for us, pay more for a newer campervan if there’s a next time.
We had a great trip and our freedom to move around with our campervan. What a great countru NZ is. We also found Wendekreisen easy to deal with noth personally and vua email
Only managed to use your sites twice but was well worth joining
We rented the Koru Star 2ST Walkthrough for our 66 day tour of North and South Island. This is a great layout with all you need for a good holiday and the camper is small enough to park in car parks. We were glad of the Walkthrough option on wet and windy days. The shower and toilet area was a reasonable size and we made good use of it on DoC and free camping sites. It is fantastic that the water heats up as you travel and even in the morning was hot enough for 2 people to shower. We did not need electric hook ups as the batteries charged well on the daily runs. We were amazed at how efficiently the battery maintained the coldness in the fridge too. The whole process of booking and paying for the campervan was very easy with good communication from the company and a very good price when comparing with other companies. Collection and dropoff were very efficiently managed and the staff were very helpful. This was the second time we had rented from Wendekreisen and we were very glad we used them again. If we return to New Zealand they will be our first choice again. Thank you Wendekreisen for helping to mak eour holiday so fantastic .
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Gillian, Thank you for the fantastic review. The entire Koru Star range (Star, Premium and Walkthrough) has been designed to enable and maintain prolonged freedom camping. We have installed 2 X KWh batteries and the hot water system not only efficient but also environmentally friendly. We are very glad you liked it and look forward to welcoming you again. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
camper very good for its age, no problems with the hills etc
good value for money very good fuel useage
We had an amazing time with Wendekreisen Travel, from arrival until return. Sila, from the Auckland branch, made us feel safe explaining paticiently the vehicle features and again, with her big smile, on vehicle return. We rented a Mazda Budget Berth 2+1 for 28 days and rolled more than 7000 km and all went well, of course it's an older vehicle and I don't recommend you push it too much, but once you're holiday travelling there's no rush. The only small energy problem was solved right away just calling the technical assistance. The only thing I would suggest to get better is the cleanliness of curtains and cushions. Price wise was the best I quoted. I recommend for sure this company!
Friendly and efficient company to deal with. Great campervan, brand new, reasonable rates. Very happy with the whole experience!
In 19/02/2018 we rented a Koru 6 Berth for 4 weeks for the price of 7,058 NZD. Unfortunately there was no instruction in German at this "German family business". The vehicle (Mitsubishi Fuso, built 2007) looked in no way as shown in the video on the website. It had scarce 440000 km on the hump and everywhere accident traces. The manager in Auckland had as a comment on the vehicle only the answer: "What do you want - you are here in New Zealand - take the vehicle or leave it."
Well - it was positive that it lasted and was tight in the rain. For everything else, we were ashamed more than once. We would not book a second time at Wendekreisen.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Rainer, thank you for leaving a feedback at Rankers. The vehicle you hired was a 2008 model Mitsubish Fuso 6-Berth Motorhome. In prime season, you paid NZ$7028 for 29 days / NZ$242 per day including insurance, diesel road user charges 'RUC' (NZ$10 per 100km), all equipment, 3 X freshly washed linen sets for 6 people, all kitchen equipment, a free airport transfer and GST (15% Mehrwertsteuer). The vehicle was compliant, to the exact, with what we advertise on our website. The Fuso is a very reliable and iconic New Zealand Motorhome. Some people here will not buy anything else. It is regarded as the Toyota HiAce of the 6-Berth market, indestructible and absolutely made for our roads. Yes, we admit there are a few scratches on the interior and yes we often fix smaller damages in low season. However, we vouch that our vehicles are in a good condition. There is absolutely no concern regarding the mileage as the vehicle is reliable and the interior is maintained to high standards. Our manager and our team spend hours with you trying to remedy all of your concerns. Our Auckland branch manager is German and did speak in German with you. We are open 7 days a week/364 days in the year. We simply cannot promise a 'Einweisung' in German every time and apologise in that regard. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
The motorhome was quite comfortable but not flashy which was offset by the price which was cheaper than other companies. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Once we had set off, we found that we needed some information on the basics of a vehicle that we were not familiar with e.g. a car user manual. On the negative side, we had to take our motorhome to an auto electrician because we were informed that our brake light wasn't working. The fact that it was only two days after we got the motorhome seems to suggest that it wasn't working when we got it. It was not part of our checklist before we left. We were supplied with a sheet and a duvet. We were either too hot or too cold every night and had to go out and buy a blanket.
Great service, great vehicle, enjoyed every aspect of the 5 week trip
Thanks a löst we has a great Time with your Camper.
This company was recommended by a friend, we looked at other companies but found Wendekreisen to be the best value. All dealings and questions via email regarding the booking were dealt with efficiently and promptly
We could not get the campervan of choice but even though it was the smaller campervan at 6 m after a couple of days we made it work. It was amazing how all our clothes fitted into the cupboards, rolling clothes is the way to go! A 7m one would have been a better size for the two of us. We are experienced campers but being used to larger caravans it was very different but fun!
A few things we think would improve this size van - a toilet roll holder, a towel rail and a couple of hooks in the toilet to hang wet jackets. The cooker only having two gas rings and without an oven restricted our cooking. We bought a cheap charcoal BBQ to use but some sites did not allow their use. If the campervan had an outside gas connection a gas BBQ could be supplied with the vehicle. But on the plus side most of the private campgrounds provide kitchens with a variety of rings, BBQ, microwave, fridges for anyone to use, we didn't use them as don't like communal cooking but an excellent idea for those who do.
When we picked up our campervan in Christchurch, the handover was comprehensive and helpful, they also loaned us the courtesy vehicle to go for our grocery supplies while waiting for van to be finalised.
Returning the campervan was swift and they organised a taxi (paid by ourselves) to take us into Auckland centre.
Overall we had the most amazing 6 weeks in our campervan and loved every minute of beautiful New Zealand.
If you're thinking of holidaying here, this is the only way to see this diverse, peaceful, relaxed country.
Booked a 2 berth van at short notice for a week from Christchurch. Efficient and friendly service at pickup, van was elderly but well maintained and clean. It was well equipped with everything you are likely to need including all linen etc. For return all that was needed was to remove all our stuff and empty water and waste, top up diesel and LPG and a quick drop off.
There is a bus stop right next to their depot which can take you into the town centre. Overall very good and recommended.
From booking to return of the vehicle the service from Wendekreisen Travel was first rate. We are experienced campervanners so we probably had a head start getting our heads around our NZ home on wheels but we felt that every effort had been made to make our chosen van (Koru Star ST) practical to use. When we collected the van from the Christchurch depot the staff were friendly and well informed about the van and how to use it to it's best advantage. I was a bit dubious about the water heater using the engine heat but it worked wonderfully as we were clocking up quite a few kilometers each day on our tour. The twin leisure batteries made sure we had power for the fridge, lights, waterpump, TV etc without needing to hook up to mains at all in 17 days.
The van drove well but needed the revs keeping up to maintain progress up some of the steeper inclines, drop below 2000 and it needed changing down to pick up speed again so plenty of gear changing on the winding mountain roads but never a great problem. The aircon in the cab was much appreciated on the hotter days we had, making the travelling between POIs much more comfortable and the elevated view from the cab gave a good view of the fantastic scenery NZ seems to offer up around nearly every turn. The fly-screens fitted to the sliding windows in the back were excellent in keeping the sandflies out but we would recommend a fly-spray to deal with any that get in the door with you.
The bed is big, easily made up and quite comfortable and the bed linen and towels of good quality. The website suggests soft luggage bags as nowhere to stow cases but apart from that storage is quite adequate and we would recommend packing cubes for added convenience for stashing clothes in the cupboards.
Fridge is large enough and two burner hob worked well. Only the kitchen sink but this was okay.
We had a Conservation Campsite Pass and combined with the Camping NZ app and offline maps gave us all the choice we needed. Enjoy!
Nice and helpfull staff. The Camper was an 11 year old VW T5, old but good for our journey. It was a awsome expirience to traveling around New Zealand. Very friendly people
Only reason I am giving a 9 not a 10 was because at check out only 1 person was working and there were many customers . It was not well organized . Other than that the campervan rental was very good
We hired a standard Koru Xl campervan for two weeks on the South Island. Brigitte was absolutely fantastic to deal with. So nice and offered some great little tips for things to do in NZ. Would definitely recommend!
totally brilliant company, collected from our hotel on morning of hire & shuttled us back to airport when returned camper. hired Koru motorhome for the 2 of us & my bike! totally reliable throughout our 4 week tour of NZ, clean & reliable.
would throughly recommend.
It was our first trip to NZ touring the North and South islands over 3-weeks in Nov, for what it's worth this seemed like an ideal time to go, the weather was good and it wasn't too inundated with tourists. Based on feedback from Rankers we decided to use Wendekreisen Travel and booked the Koru Star S/T 2 Berth with the All Inclusive Package insurance package. Starting with the good: we called the desk from the airport and were told to take a taxi to their depot where we were refunded for the cost. The van was ready to go and the staff were super friendly and helpful. There was some minor cosmetic damage to the van but this was noted on the handover sheet. Once on the road the van performed excellently, it was an ideal size for the twisty roads of NZ and I wouldn't have wanted anything bigger. We soon got into a routine on setting up the bed and although rather small, the shower and toilet were a godsend which we frequently used. There were plenty of free dump stations to utilize so no reason to pay for a campsite with full facilities in my opinion. There were a few not-so-good things: we weren't offered a sat nav which was supposed to be included in the all inclusive insurance, this wasn't a real problem as I had off-line Google maps downloaded on my phone and that worked excellently. They forgot to include the privacy curtain for the front, this was a pain because we had to rig up a large towel each night hung over a piece of string. The reversing sensors didn't work, they would beep once when reverse was engaged but did nothing when backing up to an obstacle. Wendekreisen's guide was also wrong for cleaning the toilet cassette, it said to use a capful of cleaning fluid with 200ml of water when it should have said 2,000ml of water. Fortunately we realized this didn't seem right and read the manufacturer's guide. All-in-all these minor issues didn't detract from what was an overall positive experience and we would definitely use Wendekreisen again.

All was fine
great vehicle, good value for money, very good service
nothing to complain about (especially after having seen other campervans)
We rented a 4 Berth VW camper van for a month (mid November to Mid December). "Bertha" was an old girl, 2004 with lots of mileage, but she got us everywhere we wanted to go on the north and south island of New Zealand. Amenities were top notch - French Press coffee maker, new toaster, electric and stove top kettle, dishware, many useful knives and a great frying pan. She rattled a bit and wallowed in the curves due to her size. A useful table and chairs were included in the price $4500. Bedding was ample, as were the four towels and four dishtowels.
Service at Auckland and Christchurch was excellent. We were told to get a cab to their office in Auckland and were promptly reimbursed; at Christchurch we got a ride into the airport. Check in / out procedures were quick and easy. Bertha already had considerable dings and chips, which we felt were a bonus - luckily we didn't add to them! A few times we had to call the Free Call line for advice and we received prompt service there too.
This is a great company to rent a camper van from.
very satisfied of the service and the campervan!
It all was good until I got a quotation for 4.400 dollars to fix a scratch in the side of the van. Fixing that shouldn't have costed more than 300 to 400 dollars. The quotation included several items not related to the damage and the rates were outrageous. I can guess the quotation was provided by a friendly company and the works will not really be performed, since the van already had some bumps from previous trips. They will most likely fix all the bumps and scratches together at some point with a cost several times smaller than the sum of the quotations provided to all the clients... If I had lived in New Zealand I would have gone to court about that issue, but they take advantage of the fact that the last thing most customers do before leaving the country is returning the van. With those kind of costs for small scratches it is crazy not to hire the "full insurance" and they should inform the people properly in advance. Too bad to end the trip that way because otherwise things worked pretty good.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Juan, we have tried to find your booking with the last name you have stated here. Unfortunately there have been no customers with your last name who were charged any excess for damages. Please be aware that the maximum excess for any one vehicle accident at Wendekreisen is NZ$1500. A higher excess charge is possible only if you have been in breach of our terms and conditions (for example roof damages caused by hitting height restricted, man-made structures such as underground car parks). A damage of $4400 does not indicate a small scratch and suggests major damages. We would like to look further into this to identify what happened in this case. Could you please email firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can review your booking to respond appropriately in this forum. Additional Notes On 30/12/17 - After investigating further, we have now found your booking. As initially suspected, you had the standard insurance with a vehicle excess of NZ$1500 which was explained and signed off by you in great detail. You caused a massive scratch along the entire side of our vehicle and across several panels. The final repair quotation from an independent and MTA approved panelbeater came back at $4400. We charged you the excess of $1500 only. We do recommend to take out travel insurance if you choose the standard insurance option and we explain in great details that the excess of $1500 is to be paid in the event of damages exceeding $1500. Your comments and assumptions are untrue and misleading. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We rented a Koru Star S/T Premium 2 Berth for a period of 6 weeks and drove it for 6000 km.
The campervan is well equipped and easy to drive.
From the seat cushions a comfortable bed is created. We slept very well in the van.
The LDV is a car of chinese make. The diesel engine works, but it is not comparable to smooth running european diesel engines.
At cruising speed of 80 - 100 km/h the engine noise is quite acceptable though.
The cruise control is only an on/off type cruise control.
Our average fuel consumption was 11 liters/100km.
The camping seats that are supplied with the van are very uncomfortable hard seats. We bought new collapsible seats.
Wendekreisen should really look for better camping seats.
At pick-up of the campervan we were greeted by a very sympathetic lady.
Unfortunately she did not know much about the van, the cruise control and the operation of the information system of the car.
Wendekreisen should train the personnel a bit better on this aspect.
Total judgment : Good value for the money.
We would rent a van from Wendekreisen again.
We had a great time with our Wendekreisen campervan - the staff was super-friendly and the fully self-contained campervan was just excellent! This company provides for sure the greatest value for your money - next time for sure again!
Great vehicle, reasonable price. Has a blast!
mohd hadi zainol shokor
Nice camper, in good shape, clean and safe
Great set up with everything you need, affordable. Perfect for two people.
Low cost option at $75 a day. Van has not got any major issues but a few signs of wear and tear.
Friendly when we had problems with the campervan. Gave us free toys for our baby, cheap compared to others, however: quite an old campervan.
Good value, reasonable against competition, friendly staff, vehicle a little tired, had to fix the cupboard door, temperamental hob etc.
Friendly staff, cars in all ranges, we had the Budget 2+1, perfect for the two of us, everything you need present, car a bit of an oldy but hey if you want top notch don't choose budget!
Great experience with Wendekreisen-service and vehicle. However, room for minor improvements with regards to communication between their booking-department and “ground crew” at the garage/shop.
We generally felt safe using Wendekreisen, and they offered their support at any time during the trip if needed.
We travelled in a Koru Star 2 Berth ST (2015 model, only driven 25,000 km at that time). Two adults and a 2yo boy. Central heating and hot water worked without any problems. Also the other basic features (fridge/freezer, toilet, storage, etc.) worked fine.
The driving experience (incl. the child seat up front) was very good. The gear-stick-shift was, however, a bit heavy - but OK.
All in all a very good experience. Would use Wendekreisen again!
Real nice van, everything you need, also good for exploring. Price is also okay, staff really friendly and helpful.
We were lucky to get a brand new campervan.
Everything went smoothly from enquirying to hiring.
Thank you Wendekreisen. We would definitely use you again
Thank you for a wonderful experience right from the beginning we made enquiries right up to the booking process and the smooth pick-up and return of the campervan. All email enquiries were tended to promptly. No hidden charges, no shady details or terms/conditions. Everything was transparent and hassle-free. We had an awesome campervan (we named him Ben) which was relatively new and he was an awesome buddy, no problems save for a tiny detail which the technical helpdesk sorted out fast. We would definitely come back and book with Wendekreisen again in 2 year's time for another trip to NZ : best value + smooth service. You wont regret it.
Had a great time, what a lovely company to deal with. The lady we dealt with at the Mangere office was so helpfull. We would deal with this company again no hesitation.
Kuan Mei Chin
The communication with the company was all good and easy. However, the vehicle has got some age already do there were bits of lil technical issues.
Although our camper was old we were not disappointed. Wendekreisen supplied a vehicle that performed what they advertised. It was clean, economical, and reliable, with inclusions such as bedding, gps and camping table / chairs. Their service was great. I would not hesitate to use them again.
Beware! An untrustworthy, totally unhelpful company who have left us in the lurch and 3800NZ dollars out of pocket. Wendekreisen took our deposit and confirmed our booking in February for November, but returned the deposit in early August, saying the booked van was damaged and could not be repaired. There was absolutely no attempt to help find another van and total refusal to meet any difference in price , despite the cost and demand having increased greatly. Whatever mission statement they pretend to uphold, customer care is not a reality, with the company ignoring our emails and simply not caring at all about the stress and financial burden they have placed on us. Our holiday to NZ, a once in a lifetime experience, is badly tainted by Wendekreisen before it has even begun. A horribly uncaring company.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Christine, thank you for the feedback you left here. We understand that the events can be frustrating. You booked a Koru 4 Berth in February 2017 and in July 2017 one of these vehicles was a total loss due to an accident. On 3rd August 2017 we had contacted you 4 month in advance to notify that we had to shift bookings because of the accident and that we could no longer accommodate your booking. We have referred you to one of our trusted agencies as availability with other operators was wide open (available). Wendekreisen on the other hand was very booked already. Our intend was to notify you early to allow you to book the next best alternative. Wendekreisen rates are extremely competitive and the alternatives were significantly more expensive. We have refunded your deposit payment in full AND DID NOT TAKE ANY MONEY FROM YOU ! You then proceeded to demand that we pay the difference in price to you within 7 days or else. Please note that we try to serve all of our bookings as best as possible. In season, when all operators are fully booked, we can provide some alternatives and will always find a solution in co-operation with our customers. Loosing a campervan is a rare event and means great logistical difficulty for our team. In this case we tried to find an alternative early, before all fleets of the competition were to close out (fully booked). We apologise that other operators are more expensive but can only do so much in these unfortunate events. We do not agree that customer care is not a reality as we always strive to ensure our customers are looked after. We communicated promptly and referred you to an extremely experienced team to find you the alternative you needed. We would like to clarify that Christine has never traveled in our vehicles. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
If you do want an up to date campervan with low mileage and in excellent condition with an updated satnav and a bathroom not stinking from old ur**e and if you want an introduction to the campervan in a language that is close to english and if you want a manual of the car you ride in the glove compartment and if you wish a service orientated office crew and if you would like to have a modern diesel engine with low fuel consumption and if you would like to get the number of bed linen packs you ordered and payed for and if you expect any of the multiple outlets and valves of the van labelled properly - then please do not choose Wendekreisen as your rental company. If you want an old ex-Maui-van with multiple marks of years of tear and wear for a close-to-premium-price: then you go for it. Definitely we would not book again a Wendekreisen campervan. Sorry, but Wendekreisen does not deliver an adequate service for the prices they charge. It ist ok to offer vans like ours for rental but then this must be CLEARLIEST stated on the web site.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Thomas, thank you for leaving feedback at Rankers. We pride ourselves to provide our clients with a range of vehicles for every budget. Our manufacturing plant in Mangere produces a range of vehicles for rental. These units are brand new and manufactured to extremely high standards before they join our rental fleet. We manufacture all year round and also sell a range of brand new units to the public. Our budget 2+1 fleet on the HiAce has just been completely refurbished as has our Budget 4 fleet. Our vehicles are constantly looked after with means extending to refurbishing 'the guts' of our units. The Koru Star 2ST and Koru Star 2ST Premium are literally brand new fleets, ply only and certified New Zealand Made in line with our goals for social sustainability . Check them out at www.campervansales.co.nz . The age is advertised on our vehicle selection page at https://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/campervans/rentals.aspx (see the 'Vehicle' Column). We would like to highlight that our fleet travels 40,000km per season. A vehicle that is 12 years old may well be going for 500,000km. However, we do look after them and the videos for each fleet are a to be expected condition (our teams are well aware of this). We sell all of our units after 14 year with a clean AA report which is also advertised on our campervansales.co.nz page. Small to medium damages can appear in high season due to time constraints but we are pretty quick to remedy them. I reject your comment regarding Maui vehicles. Some of our fleet are ex Maui but completely refurbished and the interior significantly upgraded. Ex-Maui units also represent a very minor portion of our fleet. Kind Regards Your Wendekreisen Team

An awesome company..i book my campervan from 2/7-16/7 but turn out our flight was early on 16/7@ 6.30 am..the lady there was so nice giving us an overnight stay at the depot..campervan was in good shape too...plus free hot choc when we arrive...
The Rankers App was very useful - used it every day and all the information needed was easily accessible.
To be honest I wish I had paid that little bit extra & gone for a better company, this is a budget company & I mean budget, they say their vans are 10 yrs old or newer, I don't think so. Was travelling in June & July following the lions,
The only positive is it didn't breakdown, was embarrassed driving into camp grounds with all the other vans there, ours looked really old, dated & shabby (inside to) but you get what you paid for I suppose, but talking to others we didn't pay that less than them, (very dissapointing)
If your on a budget & don't mind staying in a basic van with no luxury, that the shower doesn't drain, the fridge stank. & toilet leaked, etc then go with this company
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Ceri, on https://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/campervans/rentals.aspx we advertise the age of each and every one of our fleets. We offer vehicles from brand new up to 14 years old, all well maintained in their class and certified self-contained. This year we completely refurbished the Budget 2+1, The Budget 2+1 Premium and the Budget 4 Berth fleets. We refurbish some fleets every winter which usually includes a full replacement of furniture and upholstery. The prices per day reflect the age of each one of these fleets. Our brand new fleets are the Koru Star 2ST (2015 & 2016 & 2017) and the Koru Star 2ST Premium (2017 only). However, none of our units should look shabby. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
Much more personal and customer orientated that the bigger ones, so far we are happy with everything!!
Friendly staff, very clean camper (aged 13 years), very good price/value.
We only had one duvet so had to buy another one.
Good value for money for everything you would expect to need from a campervan company, including airport pickup, equipment, no one way fees or extra driver fee.
Dominik and Alex
We did not get our van at pickup due to some engine problem. They gave us a rental car, one day off and a hotel in Auckland. That was fine but still not the way we wanted our holiday to start. Otherwise, professional and friendly service.
Picked up a brand new campervan from Picton. Unfortunately, it had snags which had not been sorted out before passing onto the customer. Also, some standard equipment had not been supplied, eg no tool kit with the vehicle. Follow up service from Wendekreisen has been inadequate and no real attempt to solve these issues.
Gielis and Anne
Booking service was very good. Campervan is well equipped and reliable. Only small cons, such as a door that does not close easily.
Good value for money, great for living and sleeping, but uncomfortable to drive and very thirsty. AC broke and stereo is not good. Company are very good to deal with and have sorted problems when they can.
The camper-van was exactly as depicted, was very well equipped and extremely economical to run. No hidden extras. On close examination and comparison of insurance options, I found this company to cover much more than others. Pick up from Airport & drop off to hotel were prompt. Staff friendly and helpful. Communication and inquiries via email before our arrival were handled courteously and promptly. I would highly recommend this company.
Well used (400,000km) but well maintained and very comfortable with a VW engine. Efficient, organised and reasonably priced vans.
The site's are hardly almost verry nice and it's pretty to know that there is a place to stay at the end of the day! This way of traveling is relaxt and without sorrows. I advice everyone to do it in this way.
Hans Hollemans (The Netherlands)
Campervans were everything I expected. Clean, equipped and mechanically sound. 3 weeks and absolutely NO issues.
The folks at Wendekreisen were wonderful and our 11 day campervan trip on the South Island was INCREDIBLE! 2 Adults and 1 5yr old - we had originally wanted a 4 berth campervan but by the time we made our reservation our only option was the 6 Berth...no worries, it was PERFECT! The Wendekreisen team answered all our questions before we arrived, were super helpful with recommendations and they picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back off when we finished our trip. The 6 Berth campervan was easy to get around in and had everything we needed. There was a ton of storage space so we were able to unpack our suitcases, store them under the back bed and then left the big back bed made all the time so all we had to do was find our camp spot for the night and our little (big) house was already set up for the evening. We really loved this vacation and the comfort and confidence we had from how great we felt about the campervan made all the difference. Thank you Wendekreisen!!
The campervan was great. Staff was nice, helpful.
On our travels around New Zealand we found Rankers very helpful for finding some beautiful places to stay/camp at.
Nice to deal with, very friendly. However, we did have a few issues with the motor home (gas heater not working, microwave worn out, indicator front not working) which we highlighted back to at time of drop off at depot.
Otherwise it was clean, ran well and the DOC campsites were good. Lovely locations.
Incredibly helpful and a pleasure to work with! Highest recommendation!
Very good deal concerning price/value ratio. We had a little trouble at the pickup which cost us 1.5 days. They gave us a rental car for free, so it was okay.
Traduction des documents du véhicule en français . Service dépannage super. On aimerait changer les draps de lits plus souvent et Pas les garder 2 mois ❗
We took a van that is older than 10 years because it was cheaper. Therefore, one window was leaking but Wendekreisen, has service partners all over New Zealand. We went to one of them, they fixed it immediately.
Great service and good value for money. Very good service in case of damage including compensation for a holiday.
Excellent company to deal with. Great service and good value for money but budget van interiors are a bit tired.
Excellent easy to deal with company. Staff ready to assist.
The service was extremely friendly. The only reason I didn't give it 10/10 was because the car wasn't ready at 8.30am. We had to wait till about 1pm which put us half a day behind. In saying that, they gave us a courtesy car in Christchurch and 1/2 day refund, so can't get better than that. Will definately use them again.
Easy Booking, friendly und uncomplicated costumer service. Little bit old campervan. Super service.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday of a lifetime, the people of New Zealand were so friendly and helpful - accept the staff of Wendekreisen which was a real shame. We found them to be very rude and condescending which was the only downside to our holiday.
When we return to NZ we will be using a different company. Before booking please remember you get what you pay for.
Great customer service when we arrived to pick up the van and when we came to (sadly) drop it off. The van was a bit old but it clearly been looked after as she managed to get us around the whole of the South Island in under two weeks without skipping a beat! Only reason I'm not giving a 10/10 is because we did have a slightl problem with the gass bottle provided, but other than that I can not say a bad word about Wendekreisen. Will definitely be hiring a camper if I return.
Absolutely the right choice for us!
Before choosing Wendekreisen, I did lots of research, and we had some pretty specific needs. We wanted to be able to pick up in Auckland and drop off in Christchurch, and didn't want to pay an exorbitant fee, and Wendekreisen met that requirement. We wanted a campervan that gave us access to the back straight from the cab, and their Koru S/T 2 Berth XL was exactly the perfect thing for the two of us. We also didn't want to pay an arm and a leg, like some of the companies with newer models, but did want something reliable. This VW was perfect! Even with lots of mileage on the vehicle, it ran beautifully, with no issues at all. The layout of the kitchen was excellent, far superior to the more "modern" Deuce we rented in Australia a few weeks later. We had no issues with any of the amenities. The only lesson we learned was that we had to put fresh water in the tank SLOWLY, as otherwise it would splash back and make you think it was full, when it fact it was only partly full. The steering seemed a little loose, but didn't interfere with the performance of the van at all. Everything else was almost perfect. It came with a table and chairs for use outside the vehicle (included in the price), and lots of other amenities that we had to pay extra for at Mighty Camper in Australia. Service at both the pickup and drop off was very good, though they would only take us to the airport and not to our hotel (we were leaving the next day), so we had to get a cab. I would highly recommend Wendekreisen, and would definitely use them again. I wish they had had an office in Australia!
Our experience with Wendekreisen was almost perfect. If you compare the price of other rental cars with Wendekreisen you'll get the most out of your money. We rented a small selfcontained campervan for three persons. It suited our needs (alltough a real toilet and hot shower builtin would have been better if you want to wild camp for real). The service over phone and e-mail was awesome and really fast – so at the end I would give 9 out of 10 stars for this experience. We would book again over Wendekreisen.
Wendekreisen was perfekt:Service, Campervan etc
Good value for money from a local company
From the moment we were picked up from our hotel in Auckland to our drop off point in Christchurch, Wenderkreisen and its employees (plus the campervan) have been an experience that my wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed. The friendliness of the staff in Auckland, as well as being there for us when some things were not going well for us, have shown us that you do care about what clients do or say and that Wenderkreisen is not just there to take our money. The camper was a pleasure to drive, although there was a couple of things at the beginning, but all in all we are very satisfied with the service and campervan that Wenderkreisen supplied us with. A BIG BIG thankyou to the lady who picked us up from Auckland and also to the lady in Christchurch, when i dropped off the campervan. Well done Wenderkreisen and staff and i will definitely be using you again.
New Zealand with a camper van do it! We just finished a two month trip on the north and South Island, what a beautifull country!
There was only a bad taste about the camper van, we paid a daily amounts of 136 dollar in the high season for a old camper van more than 400.000 km. We ended up spending 3 days in garages, with the problem of a not opening side door still unsolved.
Words from the garage mechanics, campers from wendekreizen are way past there life time.
The price quality situation of there camervans is not right.
Their words, mechanical things break down... is true of course, but campers with more than 400.000 (rental) kilometers break down just a bit more.
If you chose to rent with this company, ask at forehand what camper you get and how many km's it runned. Plus, ask about the contract you have to sign at picking up the camper... it is not worth spending time at garages in your precious holiday time!
Enjoy New Zealand!
Regards Milou and Erwin from the Netherlands!
Ps. I'm interested if they fixed the problem for the next person who rents the camper... it's a Volkswagen t5 registration was DNS511.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Erwin, thank you for leaving a review on rankers. You received a 2006 model VW T5 campervan vehicle exactly as advertised on our website. Campervan rental vehicles travel 35-40000km's every season. This is no different with any other campervan rental company in New Zealand. We are dedicated to provide excellent value for money and offer a range of vehicles in all age groups. There are many operators offering the same vehicle at much higher rates. The vehicle was pre-hire-checked and functioning fine at point of collection. Yes, mechanical problems can occur. You rung us and we had advised that a repair would require a part (the lock motor) to be sent overnight. The door was still opening and closing and you decided to travel on instead. We even offered you to fix this problem in a convenient location in Wellington which you also declined. In the end you were consulted at vehicle return and you were reimbursed for the shortcomings. Our vehicle ages are advertised on our website and we do not feel that it is accurate to state that older vehicles are less reliable. In European terms, any rental vehicle in NZ that is older than 3 years may be considered old and depends largely on the quality and detail of its servicing department. A vehicle in the 0-3 year age group will set you back NZ$250 - NZ$350 per day + insurance which many cannot afford for a 20 day journey. We are very glad you enjoyed New Zealand though ! Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
You get what you pay for- the van was clean, trouble free, and capacious. The shower worked really well, but 10 years old, 400k on the clock, noisy, and tiring to drive.
This Company is the only one to go with, our camper was fantastic! Staff were excellent, so helpful. We had the trip of a lifetime and the next one is in the pipeline. C'mon, what are you waiting for? Jump on a plane and experience life in New Zealand in a camper! You will have no regrets about this decision! We can't wait to get back there.
Very friendly staff. Good value for the money
We were on a budget so took an older model 4 berth. It didn't take long to get used to driving it. The camper was clean and tidy, but showed its age. Overall a great and enjoyable holiday. We purchased an additional mirror to see the car seat way down the back, but the toddler was happy enough (most of the time) and loved being able to see out the windows as we went along. We got given great advise and told many things including - the water does not last as long as you think (we were caught out twice). The staff were friendly and helpful. A food recycling area set us up with our first night of food which was extremely useful. Our camper was S L O W on the hills and took a lot longer to get from Christchurch to Picton that the travel times for a car - not a problem if you know this in advance (it took us over 9 hours - with no traffic and quick stops). NZ is full of hills!!!! Once we realized this we adjusted our distance / time expectations and replanned the trip and had a fabulous holiday.
They provided us with everything that we expected. The price was much lower than the top campervan companies, but for that we got a perfectly good van that never let us down. It had all the features we needed and we would definitely use them again.
Excellent campervan rental company. We hired a Koru 2 Berth ST which was only a couple of months old. The vehicle was perfect for a 3 weeks NZ experience for 2 persons. We did not have any problems with the campervan. It was equipped with everything we needed (and even more). The Wendekreisen Staff is really friendly. We were refunded the taxi costs from our Hotel in Christchurch to the depot. The drop-off in Auckland went really well. Overall a perfect experience! I would highly recommend Wendekreisen if you don't want to spend too much money but still expect good service and good campervans!
The best way to travel! Pick a nice spot with your campervan in nature (on a free doc campsite) and enjoy!
Good handover of the car. For us the perfect rental company.
Nice welcome and the handover of the van was without any problems. A lot of papers you have to read and sign. Van was clean, fully equipped as expected. Overall a really good price/value balance. Would rent here again.
We had an excellent service. They picked up us at our hotel near the airport and they dropped off us at the airport at the end. We rented a small campervan. They took their time to explain us the van. The mechanic was perfect. We only had a problem with the fridge which was frozen everything. They told us we had should phone them for that and they would have sent us to a place to fix that. Because it wasn't mechanic we didn't think to phone about it. So next time we will phone them for a similar problem.

Great help especially when there was a breakdown in the middle of our journey whereby the service centre personnel had to drive all the way from TeAnau back to Queenstown to get the campervan fixed. Unfortunately the campervan has en engine check light on during Saturday, therefore we are stuck at TeAnau for 3 nights which affected our NZ trip plan. Additional to that, the NZ Camper app is not up to date whereby some 'Free' Campsites weren't actually there and the prices of the Holiday Park is usually more than what was written in the app. Overall it was a good trip and NZ is totally AWESOME!!!
We found that the conservation camping pass not only saved us money but mean we didn't have to carry lots of cash around to pay each site. Sites were basic and some remote - but we knew that - part of the attraction - some stunning places! The only suggestions I can think of for improvement would be that there were more sites strategically placed around the Islands -near places of interest, dump stations at sites and to use pass at all sites but with extra to pay - possible using a credit system so no need for cash. Could purchase credit at information centres. We used the pass for 15 of the 22 sites we used during our stay. Other sites we used were ones provided by individual towns: Rotorua, Woodsville, Featherstone, Whakatane and one private site at Gereldene (couldn't find a conservation site nearby). Town sites and dump stations found in towns and in garages were similar to French system. We spent more money where these were provided and because we were able to save money on overnight stays we were happy to spend more money on vising special sites etc. Some towns were camper van friendly, others not so.
Make sure of your plans before you book.We tried to make a change in route (and there were campers available on the new route) but we were told they wouldn't accommodate a change. We had no choice but to cancel. And the cancellation is more than you think after reading the fine print. You forfeit your full deposit PLUS 30% of the total cost even as much as a month out from your trip. That worked out to 42% of the cost paid for a camper they can easily rerent.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for leaving a feedback at Rankers. We are fully booked for most of the season and short notice cancellations incur income losses which cannot be recovered. Although we cannot check your booking (you did not state your name), it appears that you have misinterpreted our terms and conditions. Yes the deposit ($300) is non-refundable when you confirm a booking. However, the short notice cancellation fee is based on the total reservation cost (including insurances) which includes the deposit. The terms state --- If cancelled 31 days prior to pick up No fee --- If cancelled within 30 days to 8 days of pick-up 30% of total reservation cost --- If cancelled within 7 days of pick-up or no show 100% of total reservation cost Early Return No refund for any unused portion of the rental is available.----
To clarify, you were a charged a 30% cancellation fee for cancelling withing a week - no more. Our terms are publicly advertised, simple and easy to read in 4 X languages. We encourage everyone to read them. They are fair and favourable to many other operators most of whom comply with best practice industry standards. You can view our terms at https://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/about/terms.aspx . We regret that you lost part of your payment. Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We hired the Koru Star 6 berth for 2 weeks for us and the kids. It was great, the campervan was in good condition and my husband said it was good to drive. The team at Wendekreisen were very helpful write from the start when booking and on pick up and return of the campervan, very nice and friendly people to deal with. Definitely would recommend them to everyone, thanks so much!
Great service, very reasonably priced. Older van (Koru 6 berth), but was expected. No problems with the van loads of space and well kitted out.
The van was fine for the most part. However, I am giving the low ratings because the shower did not pump hot water at all starting from day 1. We called several times to notify of problem and were provided probable reasons and possible resolutions, none of which worked. Having opted for the shower van we were hoping to avoid the holiday parks but were left with no choice but to spend double. Feel like a regular campervan would have been a better option since we ended up staying at paid sites to access shower facility. We were asked by everyone on the phone didn't the person who signed you out check if the shower worked. She did show us how to operate it but never checked if it actually functioned appropriately. Lesson to first time renters. Always check if the equipment works the way it is supposed to. When we reported the problem at the time of return, the person in charge appeared more worried about the shower not working but did not even remotely offer any sympathetic words for the inconvenience. Very unprofessional.
The experience with Wendekreisen was perfect! Amazing trip, amazing country. I can highly recommend this company, of course!
The company had a very nice touch to it. Friendly and prompt service and a great vehicle. We loved the vehicle and the people of this organisation.
Had a wonderful experience with these folks. Took out their brand new 2 berth with bathroom. Was a dream to drive, sturdy and powerful. Gas heating was a treat in the cold. The TV and sound were pretty cool when taking it easy between hikes. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended !
Loved our budget 4 berth. Was so economical on gas!! Staff were so kind and friendly. Was really clean, had everything we needed. No problems, she drove really well. Will highly recommend to all our friends. Thank you again for our wonderful holiday, we will never forget it, was totally worth it.
Rented the Kuro Star 6 berth. Reasonable rates, friendly service from beginning to end. No problems whatsoever. Will recommend them.
I can highly recommend this company! This was the first time we had ever hired a motor home so were a little apprehensive about it. We picked up the vehicle in Christchurch, the service was outstanding, the trip went very very well. we had the best time. We took this camper all over the South Island and never had any issues! Picking up the vehicle in Christchurch was a breeze. We called them from the airport, was told to take a taxi and was fully refunded once we got to the office. The service at the Christchurch branch was amazing! Best customer service ever!!! I suffer from a bad back and for the first time in a long time I didn't wake up sore! The bed is very comfy! After dropping the vehicle off we were taken to the airport at no extra charge! The camper had everything we needed and more!
Thanks Christchurch Wendekreisen! You will definitely be seeing us again!
Thank you to the lovely ladies and gentlemen at Wendekreisen. We had a wonderful holiday around the north island. The motor home we had was a Koru 4 berth, large enough for us two. The vehicle was older and a little rough around the edges but in all never let us down motor wise. We learned to ask questions by the end of our trip as we couldn't fathom the gas stove, but didn't really need it as we were on powered sites the whole time. There was a small time delay waiting for a door part to come in [a little annoying] but these things happen sometimes. The lovely lady at the pickup was quite informative showing us where everything was unfortunately we needed to ask more of how things worked inside as we didn't get the satellite dish to work but the TV played dvds so not a total loss. The back bed constructed from the table was quite hard so we used the other mattress on top. Having the other bed meant we had lots of storage space. Might not work if there are 4 people. In all quite an experience. I would recommend this company for people used to camping in a caravan and being able to improvise as needed.
Friendly service at the Christchurch location. Reimburse for our taxi from downtown so we could first get adjusted to the time change. Wish we had tried all the units before departing as our heater and one burner did not work. But a great way to freely travel New Zealand.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Box, your comments are not in line with our company policies at all. We can negate problems or mechanical issues but we do follow a procedure here. The procedure is to report a problem, then to inspect that issue and to repair/remedy the issue. We do not spare any expense to have shortcomings resolved. Unfortunately, you chose to remain anonymous and this limits our ability to review the issues you experienced in March 2016. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Airport pickup was good, poor instruction by the staff, no toilet chemicals given, interior not well designed, small vehicle, no camping chairs, just plastic chairs.
Wendekreisen is a budget company that use older vehicles (ours was a former Maui). Therefore we obviously did not expected to be given a new vehicles. However we expected the vehicle to be better kept and this was not the case: the microwave oven did not work (it also was poorly fixed and came loose during the trip nearly falling off), the DVD / TV did not work, the water hose did not have the proper adapter and therefore was nearly useless at most camp sites, the internal electric heater made so much noise it could no be used during the night, on burner of the stove did not work. Other negative points: the vehicle was handed over quite fast without important explanations (for example the battery charger was switch off and did not charge the battery when the vehicle was plug into power - it took us days to find the charger under the beds and discover the problem), the exterior lockers had broken keys and could not be locked at all, the folding camping table was to big and had no proper place to be stored in the vehicle (it needed to be kept inside the vehicle disturbing our movement), the shower had a loose fixing.
Booking was a bit complicated because we did not get the campervan we wanted, so it got more expensive but still cheaper than many other companies. Picking up in Christchurch was okay, no one way fee for dropping off in Auckland, vehicle has got everything that is needed (self contained).
One of the greatest companies I've ever seen. The van was perfect and big at about the same price as a lot of the smaller ones from other companies. no problems at all and very friendly people
we took the budget 4 berth travel for 9 days in winter. the camper van is working really good. no problems at all. even its old and cute, but the engine and power work very well! thank you. and no hidden cost also! cheap!
The team at Wendekreisen were wonderful to deal with. Always had time to address my (many) questions, and did so with a smile - both before signing up and then as support while on the road. The van I rented was kind of old and had a few quirks, but ran perfectly for me without any sort of mechanical troubles at all (and I knew full well the age of the vehicle before renting it). And it was the most cost effective option I could find when researching. Overall, very happy with the whole Wendekreisen experience.
Great company to rent from.Van was a bit old and worn, but we had no trouble.People were very helpful and accommodating. They also had a shelf with free stuff that you could take if you could use something.
Very reasonable price for what you get. Good and friendly service, well maintained vehicle.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Lilli, Thank you for your feedback. You state that you did not receive any help whilst you were travelling but you did call several times and we have explained the scenario to you. A change of vehicle would have been possible but costly without your cooperation. However, there was no failures with the van and you were sleeping in the vehicle with 3 people. The vehicle has single glazing only and as such there can be a fair bit of condensation due to the differences in temperature and insufficient ventilation. The vehicle was one of our smallest units and opening the windows during the day is important. The moisture can and will attract surface mold if not removed whilst travelling. We do offer full customer support and a freephone number which you did take advantage of. We had EVERY one of your claims investigated and followed up with you and explained how you can avoid mold development. We apologise if that was not good enough. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Very friendly and helpful staff, campervan was reasonable for the price we paid, had a good time. Couldn't ask for much more!
In sum we were happy with our 3 person campervan and with the good service of Wendekreisen. Some parts of the van are quite old and the chairs are not comfortable.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very efficient and did everything they promised. We had trouble with the water pump and they organised a place for us to get it fixed straight away. Vans are a bit old and tired but everything worked and for the price it was very good value. We would definitely book with them again.
Hello Nick, thank you for the opportunity to review our trip to NZ. We had a wonderful time travelling up to Cape Reinga on the north island and down to Bluff on the south island and lots of places in between. Unfortunately we did not utilise the DOC campsites for overnight camping but we did manage to visit some DOC grounds during the day. Had our motorhome been equiped with a gas/electric refrigerator we would have camped overnight operating on gas. However, next time we will ensure that whatever motorhome we hire it is better equipped for freedom camping. Apart from that the Wendekreisen Motorhome, while an older model, served our needs adequately. Some suggested improvements: install a shower curtain to keep the toilet dry; lube the vehicle doors so they don't have to be slammed shut; supply an outdoor mat to clean shoes before going inside; a retractable awning would be great especially in wet weather.
Had a wonderful time. Was becoming fall so used the heater. Didn't think the gas heater was very effective given the vent placements (we had to store luggage on floor under bed/table which blocked one vent, since vents were under the bed). Tried to use oven but pilot wouldn't stay lit. The stove worked fine. One electrical outlet was located above kitchen workplace (another would have been nice). Van worked great! No problems with mechanics or workings of camper itself. Staff was very friendly and we felt safe the entire trip! Booking was very easy and staff answered questions timely prior to trip.
This is the second time I have hired a camper from Wendekreisen, and this time was just as good as the first. A great bunch of people to deal with, always friendly and helpful. Booking was easy and camper was fantastic. Had everything you need along with helpful advice on how to get the best out of your holiday. Great value for money. It really is a complete service. I can't wait to book my third holiday, and get back to NZ for more adventures.
Quite good campervan rental company. The majority of everything was working good. We got a VW T5 Campervan. It hat a quite high milage and the engine was rather small, apart from that the van was good and did what it should. The kitchen worked fine, more space in the van than in the other ones from Toyota and so on. Bed is maybe a bit short for tall persons. Unfortunately there was already a crack in the windshield when we got the van so we had to have the windshield changed during our trip.
This is a second tier campervan hire place. For our holidays, we decided to use this company and we got a Koru 2+1 berth Toyota hi ace hi-top campervan. It was also certified as self-contained which made it suitable for freedom camping.
A bit of hiccup when we took delivery of the vehicle because they were waiting for a locksmith to check the central locking. Pre delivery briefing was very good and fairly comprehensive. Because of the delay, we got a refunded large breakfast from next door cafe which was a much appreciated bonus.
Trouble free throughout and we really packed the miles and was our home for 3weeks. Very comfortable and though the vehicle getting a bit long in the tooth, the engine performed at 12ltrs/100km.
On return, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and final checks did not take long. Courtesy shuttle to the airport. We will definitely use this company again.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Felino, thank you for the wonderful feedback. We are very happy that you enjoyed your holiday in our 2+1 vehicle. We would like to add that we also offer 1st tier Koru Star 2ST vehicles. We usually do have a few vehicle types that could be classed as 1st tier. We are looking forward to welcoming you again one day. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team.
We hired a +10 year old Koru 2 berth ST XL. We had 30 days in the van and it was everything we hoped it would be. Very clean and well equipped and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We had good technical support when needed. We had an oil link which we dropped into a garage in invercargill to get fixed. This was patched up and we were on our way again. If you want a clean , comfortable camper van with a bit of character then this is the one for you!
Having an accident with a camper van during your holiday can happen and we experienced it. However the people at Wendekreisen managed to help us resume our holiday after this unfortunate event. Luckily we were fully insured and I would definitely recommend everyone to pay for the full insurance! Even though they didn't have any spare campers available, Wendekreisen managed to arrange for us a replacement van together with a partial refund so that we could continue our journey through beautiful New Zealand.
When it comes to the quality of the van itself, I can confirm all the positive reviews I've read on rankers: it's an old van but well maintained and it's got everything you need'for your camping trip. Also, it can keep you alive through an accident and I know this from experience.
Customer service wise, the people at Wendekreisen are extremely helpful and I want to again express my gratitude for all the help my wife and I got from Monique and Lisa! You really saved our holiday!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Joris, thank you for the wonderful feedback. We are all glad you are well and know that there is never any intend to be involved in accidents. We are happy that you enjoyed the remainder of your holiday and have passed on your kind comments. We would like to mention that we also offer near new 2015 model Koru Star 2 Berth units. We are producing another batch of these in 2016 (25 X brand new vehicles). Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We had a wonderfull stay in New Zealand and traveled for 25 days around both islands with a Wendekreisen budget 2+1 berth campervan. We chose Wendekreisen because it was one of the cheapest options available, but reviews on rankers were still mostly positive. We don't regret out decision. The campervan was a 2004 Toyota Hi-Ace with a lot of kilometers, but it seemed the camper was well maintained, clean and well equipped. We had some problems with the clutch first, but when we were used to drive with the van, everything went fine. The employees helping us were very friendly and the vehicle inspection went really smooth when we delivered the van back (because this is the point were i usually stress out...)
Company with very friendly staff, clean and well maintained campervans, fair pricing and insurance conditions.
We rented a campervan (koru star 2 berth st 2015) for 37 days and from booking process, over payment (you can pay per credit card by using a special page for safe payment,), car handover with detailed explanations, till to the return of the car was everything perfect. Especially to emphasise are the fair insurance conditions without straining your credit card account.
After this experience we would recommend the company to everybody.
Very good company, friendly stuff, old but good cars, all works great.
We hired a 2+1 Star Berth for about 8 weeks. In a nutshell: You get what you pay for.
The van was from 2010, a bit worn out already (had about 180.000km), and it surely had a personality when driving (e.g. a bit of wind from the side made it adventurously unstable), but we didn’t have any major technical problems. Be aware that the bed is small, so while my companion was sleeping sideways with his feet hanging over the mattress, I used the “kids shelter“ above, which was an extra bed constructed of wooden panels. The van itself was narrow, and it definitely took some getting used to. You can use the extra compartment over the driver’s cabin to store your stuff, and there’s plenty of space if you rearrange a couple of things inside the van.
Upon arrival, we bought a fresh new cutting board, a proper sharp knife and a large coated pan - we found the cooking equipment too small. Also, we felt lucky WITHOUT the shower/toilet, which is simply useless - it’s too small and takes up ways too much space.
Main drawbacks are the limited size, the age of the van (with the basic comfort), poor ventilation inside the van and the missing central heating system - sometimes, all glasses froze up inside the van (same did we). On the contrary, the van doesn’t have an an air conditioning, which can turn into a major problem in summer.
One day, we discovered that there was heaps of mold behind the carpet that covers the top sides of the van. I’m surprised that it wasn’t noted before they handed over the van to us. Anyhow, the Wendekreisen team in Christchurch dealt with the situation in a professional way. Since they had to renew the carpet which took four days, we were offered a car, a compensation plus free accommodation until they returned us the van, 200km more South, with a full tank. So customer service definitely was top-notch!
In summary, it’s a good choice if you’re traveling with an average budget and still prefer something solid.
Vehicle conforming to rent, ready to check in, in very good condition and no mechanical problems during the 5000 km in three weeks road trip. Fuel-efficient but consumption was indicated in detail.

We had problems with the motorhome, it was broken. But the mechanical service was OK, and the company give us a compensation for the days we lost.
We had a brilliant trip around the south island. Everything went smoothly with our camper van from start to finish. We had done a lot of research about campers before we decided on Wendekreisen and obviously there is a huge range in types and prices. We wanted a small basic camper and we felt they were offering the best value. Although the camper was an old model (Koru 2 berth) it was spotless, very comfortable and drove well. It was excellent value. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Wendekreisen.
Really nice budget campervan with everything you need for travelling, no problems.
We hired the new model (2015) for a 11 days south island trip (it was the second trip for this campervan).
The vehicle was easy to drive and ran perfectly on any kind of road. Also, the campervan was very comfortable for us (much more than I expected in a 6 meters long vehicle).
Any queries and concerns we had were answered quickly via telephone. Happy for that and so important in my opinion.
Unfortunately, the morning of the drop-off someone gave us a scratch in the car parking of a nearby crowded mall at Christchurch. It's a shame that the "all inclusive" insurance we had did not cover this situation, but it is something included in the terms and conditions, and we accepted the NZ$250 charged (total of the bond).
Our one and only complaint is that the company just forced us to hire a minimum of 12 days even when our journey was for 11 days (originally was told that the minimum period was 15 days but they agreed to reduce it to 12). So, we had to pay for an extra day needlessly. It is a condition that doesn't appear on Wendekreisen's website nor any terms or conditions, and was reported to me at the end of the booking process via email (I had to accept because it was the campervan that I wanted to rent and had no other possibility).
In any case, we are very pleased with the company and we would suggest them without hesitation. :)
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Javier, thank you for your positive feedback. We really do appreciate your input. We would like to add that your insurance did cover the damages. The total repair cost came to just over $600 and the all inclusive covered the difference between the bond and the repair cost. Also, we may vary minimum hire periods at times pending availability. However, this will always be communicated prior to confirming a booking. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We hired a 4 berth camper van on a Sunday, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
During the trip the water heater sprung a leak, a new hot water heater was shipped the same day.
Accommodation was provided and we got a two day refund.
Over all we had a very good experience with Wendekreisen and would use them again.
My husband and I hired a Koru 2 Berth Star van for 3 weeks-picked up in Christchurch and dropped off in Auckland. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our van was a year 2010 model, so slightly dated and slow going up hills but didn't have any engine trouble. We discovered our shower was broken the 3rd day we were there and because it was a Saturday we couldn't get it fixed until Monday, but it was easily fixed nonetheless. Our space heater also broke in the middle of the night, so we had to buy a replacement for it, which was a little bit of a pain. Major props to Wendekreisen though-they reimbursed us for the space heater and the two nights that we had to stay in a holiday park due to our shower being broken. Overall, customer service was excellent. One more thing to note - we noticed the Auckland office had a recycled items area (for things like dish soap, condiments, etc.) that we didn't see and weren't told about at the Christchurch depot so be sure to ask when you pick up your van! Happy travels!!
Hired a 6 berth late August for 10 day south island trip. Booking process for first timers was hassle free. Pricing very competitive and upfront ,any queries and concerns we had were answered quickly. When we queried how cold at night it would be (family of 6 with teenagers) they, gave us extra duvets just in case we would be too cold at night (camper has gas and electric heater but we did not need ). Our precheck before departure was good in that they marked down any small damages to campervan that we did not pickup ourselves. Our first night in we had a query about how gas water heater worked after I read the manual. Tech staff took us through start up in a step by step process (I was impressed). Vehicle was easy to drive for large size. We had a great holiday.
Great company to deal with from start to finish. Booking was easy and very good communication throughout the whole process. Pick up was delayed as the van had been dropped off late the previous night but they gave us a car to go to the supermarket and buy our groceries ready for the trip while we waited and they gave us half day refund on our hire. We hired the KoruST XL and had no real issues even thought the camper had travelled 385000 kms. Quite cheap to run considering it is quite a big vehicle and had no trouble getting around in it although the steering was a little heavy at slow speeds. Only other issue was the fact that there was no dishcloths/ dishwashing detergent etc in the kitchen and no matches even though the gas cooktop had no igniters which was a bit of a pain when we went to cook tea on the first night and couldn't get the burners going. Given all that I would say from my experience with Wendekreisen I would suggest them without hesitation. :)
We rented a 6 berth camper and travelled the south island for 2 weeks. The campervan was a twin turbo mercedes so ran very well, even on the steep and rocky roads. The van was quite new, had everything we needed and was suprisingly spacious. It did get cold at night when near the walls, but both electric and gas heaters were provided so it was no drama. Wendekreisen were easy to deal with and very competitive with price and inclusions. Thank you for making our trip.
Good vehicle, clean and safe. Just be sure to check, inspect thoroughly and MARK any dents of scratch on vehicle during collection; even if in heavy rain. Because when returning it, they will find it for you. And you have to pay for it.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Zulfadzli, as explained and documented by yourself, there was a minor damage to the rear right tailside (Hit a yellow/grey coloured object). You forwarded your pictures to us and they clearly show that damages were evident even after you cleaned the surface. You were charged NZ$126.50 for panel repairs which is very reasonable. You have been provided with the repair quotation of the repairer. No demurrage fees nor administration fees were charged and we believe that we have acted fair and reasonable. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We were really happy with our experience of hiring from Wendekreisen. This even though we did not have the best of starts. We broke down miles from anywhere 2 hours of picking up the van. After contacting them on the phone we had to wait 1 hr 40 mins in the cold for the recovery truck. As it was a Saturday night we had to wait two days for replacement parts Wendekreisen were very quick to deal with our problem and refunded us without a problem for a car we we hired while the van was fixed. Breakdown was a burst hose which could have happened in any engine.
The van was clean and comfortable. After the initial breakdown it ran like a dream. Everything worked well. For value for money they are very hard to beat. We would certainly use them again.
We asked Wendekreisen along with many other camper hire suppliers for quotes based on their website prices and inclusions, Wendekreisen offered us a discounted price and efficient service, so we booked. Every service from start to finish was faultless. The whole process was stress free and we will always recommend Wenderkreisen.
We spent 2 weeks on NZ's North Island and experienced some less than favourable weather and forgottem roads, but our camper didnt miss a beat. We had a wedding in the far remote north on a beach, where there was probably 12+ campers. Many of these other branded larger newer models also came with many complaints and stories of dodgey service, so we were extra happy with our choice. Thanks you Wendekreisen, we're very happy campers.
This is the 3rd time that we have used these chaps for hiring a camper van.
They have been quick to sort out any problems we had.
There are no hidden fees and the people who work there are just real nice.
4 berth (LT35) for 8 days.
Company quick to respond to queries
Depot staff very friendly and helpful
Older vehicle, well maintained and serviced
Diesel turbo generally powerful and responsive
reasonably well equipped kitchen-wise
Stereo exceeded expectations as we could plug iPad in
Lots more space than anticipated
Uninsulated single glazed. Our daughter found her sheet had frozen to the wall, covered in icicles, but you get what you pay for.
No cup holders in the front cab maybe due to age and type of vehicle
Only 2 powerpoints is a hassle these days
Instruction manual awful for newbies. Tired, dated, inaccurate. When you get your walk-through at the beginning of the rental, there is so much to take in, you do need a better manual.
Rear seats definitely right at the back of the vehicle, not comfortable, tend to lead to a numb backside
Condensation a huge problem, even with ventilation
Gas cooker - maybe typical of camper stoves - but very low output so it took ages to cook anything; grill useless
No dishwash liquid, dishcloths so had to buy these in larger quantity than we would use in a week.
Snow chains included in our hire but had never used them before and had no idea which set of wheels they went on. No info in the instructions we were given, so had to email the company to find out as no cellphone coverage where we were. They were quick to respond though
Bed extremely hard and uncomfortable due to age and type of vehicle. If you can sleep anywhere, go for it!
Overall, a really good company for a budget camper-van holiday. Staff really friendly, definitely good value for money. So long as you are aware of the limitations of their older vehicles, you can save quite a lot this way. For our first foray into the world of motorhomes we really enjoyed our holiday - one of the best we've had actually.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Shelley, thank you for your constructive feedback. You might like to hear that we are currently building 7 X Koru Star 2ST 2015 model prototypes. This fleet may be fitted with double glazed windows. All future models may also be fitted with double glazing. These units will be available as of 1st October 2015.
We rented the 6 berth for 2 weeks and it was just perfect for our little adventure holiday. everything was included, including outdoor table and chairs which we used every morning for an outdoor breakfast. The staff were very helpful and we had no issues with the vehicle the whole time. heaps of linen for us to use and the vehicle was clean and equipped for a great holiday. On our trip we talked to other holidaymakers and heard of bad stories from other companies but all the other wenderkreisen renters all said how great the vehicles are and the company is the best to rent from. Will definitely use Wenderkreisen again on our next adventure holiday. Thank you
We rented a Koru 4 Berth for 12 days. The booking was easy and helpful. Ad posted said “’06 or better”. It was an ‘06. Took some getting used to the clutch and was like driving a moving truck around.
First night it appeared that the water had not been filled completely nor the wastewater emptied. By the third night my wife’s concerns about mice were verified. Living in a tiny box for 2 weeks with mice was not our picture of a lovely vacation. Customer service informed us that this was not their concern (“it’s normal in winter months as the rodents are hungry and cold”) without any offer to make amends. Their solution was to have us come by the depot in AKL and put in bait stations (which we did and to no avail). Oh, and don’t let your little boys touch the poison, thank you very much.
Upon return they were quick to point out a scratch on *the roof* of the van and charge me $200 to fix it. Of course at pick up they had walked around pointing out about 20 other scratches and letting me know they’d charge me $50 for any caps missing. When I asked later why the cost for such a repair on an old vehicle when no other repairs were being made, they let me know they save all the damage for winter repairs as it’s too busy in the summer.
Found the rear seats to not latch well making them tip forward. By design, your passengers are almost 3 meters behind you and it’s impossible to communicate while driving with the road noise in this tin box. Not ideal for my wife and I in front and 2 little boys behind.
They boast including a folding table and chairs while other’s charge. They may be useful in the summer, but as we ate most meals inside, we found this to be an incredible nuisance as they were heavy, not camper friendly, compacting and having a natural storage place.
The upper bunk is accessible by a ladder, which needs to be carefully held when ascending/descending. If you’re a worrier, there’s no protection to roll off in your sleep or lock the ladder in for climbing.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear PF, thank you for your feedback. The vehicle you rented was a VW LT35 which is a light truck. It is larger and 'truckier' than van type vehicles but offers a hydraulic clutch easy to operate for this size of vehicle (a 4 berth Motorhome). The scratch you caused was not a light scuff mark, it had penetrated the roof top and ought to be fixed. As we have pointed out to you, $200 for a panel repair is a bargain and a very fair price in any case. No we do not leave all repairs for winter but do revamp cosmetic defects in winter. This damage was not cosmetic though. The table and chairs are a lightweight and highly durable Aluminium/Plastic make. The chairs weigh about 1.5kg and the large table weighs about 4kg, in line with weights of other branded chairs. Also our tables and chairs last a very long time which reduces the impact on the environment by reducing waste. There is space provisions to store them. Please note that all of our tables and chairs are manufactured in New Zealand by a company which is not for profit and employs disabled people to train them and to provide jobs to them. The top bunk has a clip in cargo net below the mattress. It can be clipped in to the sealing providing some barrier to prevent falls at sleep. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Was so impressed from start to finish they could not do enough for me and were very friendly as well . Also the cheapest i could find in N.Z with all that was included thank you guys
Great experience. They were helpful and responsive in the booking process and answering questions. We thought the pricing was reasonable (50 day rental) and capping the cost of the insurance after 30 (?) days really helped. The refrigerator was marginal in performance when just running on the battery but was ok when plugged in to mains power and when the engine was running. We were satisfied all around
Helpful staff, easy online booking from UK. Responded quickly to emails. Well equipped van - 'did what it said on the tin'. Easy to drive. No hidden extras - excellent value for money. Would use Wenderkreisen again without hesitation.
After nearly not coming because of the terrible service from an un-named camper home rental company and its booking agency, we finally got exceptional service and price from the team at Wendekreisen. Romy in Aukland was exceptional with the booking process and Simon in Christchurch was just as exceptional in Christchurch where we picked up the van from. Nothing was too much hassle for them to take care of. There was a day's delay with a transmission technical issue that was fixed asap and we were supplied with a free hire car to cover that time and received a refund for that day. I would much rather that than break down. The van was the newer 2011 Koru Sta 6 berth which was ideal for my wife and myself and 2 boys under 5. We spent 2 weeks travelling the Sourh Island and the van performed great and had every possible thing that you could think of needing in it. We had another small issue when the toilet ran out of flush water but a quick call fixed that up. Silly me! Overall,, great service, staff, vehicles and price. Well done Wenderkreisen.
Wendekreisen literally made our bucket list dream trip to NZ a possibility. After checking prices from numerous rental companies, the prices were so high that they would have exhausted our whole trip budget!
I reviewed Rankers listings to find the highest rated RV rental firm for the best value. I found Wendekreisen and am I ever grateful! Their prices were about half of many of the leading companies. Suddenly, our dream trip became a reality.
We rented a Koru 4 Berth unit for one month of travel, which we just completed--4000km in all. We couldn't have had a better time, and the motorhome, though of an older vintage (ours was a 2006 unit with 390k), the motorhome performed ably for the whole trip, and fuel economy was considerably better than advertised. We had a couple of glitchy things go wrong with hardware, but nothing that amounted to more than a passing annoyance.
Our experience with Wendekreisen was top notch all the way. The check-in staff in Auckland were very welcoming, professional, and responsive. We returned the next day with some questions/issues, which were immediately addressed. We never had to contact them during the trip, and our return experience in Christchurch was even more positive. It was quick and easy with no surprises at any point (from the first time I contacted the company till the very end!). The Christchurch rep was as nice and professional as could be, and he had us whisked away to the airport in a matter of minutes.
We couldn't be happier with our choice. The motorhome was older, but it was very well maintained, and the company seems always responsive to address whatever questions or problems that may arise.
Thomas and Sonja
Old cars but well maintained. Equipment is basic. Good prices. Friendly staff and good service.
We rented a Koru 2 berth xl for a 30 day tour of both islands. This was a 2005 VW based campervan with 352,000 miles. The unit was clean and in excellent condition. The pick-up went very smooth and was done professionally. The did a good walk through and answered my questions.
The first problem was a windscreen wiper blade that came loose. We called the service line and they tried to find someone to check it out. This was Saturday afternoon the result was understandable. I was able to find a socket and tighten down the arm so it didn't move on the shaft (i'm a mechanic by trade)
A couple of week later we caught a rock in the windscreen (from a logging truck) on the way to Taupo. We called the service line and Wendekreisen set up an appoint in Taupo. After a couple of phone calls there was no windscreen available in Taupo. Our next stop was Rotorura. Peter had a windscreen sent to Rotorura from Auckland along with a new windscreen wiper arm for installation the next day. All the planning went very smoothly and within a couple hours we were on the road again.
The remainder of the trip went smoothly and so did the turn-in in Auckland. Although the van had a lot of miles, it performed as I expected it would. The diesel did well on fuel, better than advertised.
Wendekreisen has their act together. Customer service and support was excellent. I would highly recommend there services
We did rent the Koru Budget 4Berth for travelling New Zealand for 4 weeks. From Beginning of the correspondence we did feel very welcome by Wendekreisen. All our questions were answered quickly and also the booking was very uncomplicated.
And after comparing a lot of campervan rental Companies we found Wendekreisen as best price/benefit for our travel.
We were picked up from the hotel we stayed our first night. Staff was very friendly and welcome. We did get a very good briefing how everything works and on what to pay attention.
The vehicle was an old model but the interior was good and properly. We did enjoy our time very much and we didn’t have any technical problems and we did drive 6700 kms in 4 weeks.
Thank you Wendekreisen for a very nice holiday!
We hired a Koru 2 berth S/T for 5 weeks. I picked Wendekreisen based on competitive pricing and great reviews. They lived up to the reviews!
From the moment we arrived at the depot in Christchurch the service was excellent. Very relaxed and efficient. They showed us how to use everything with patience.
The vehicle we hired was an older model ( hence cheaper) but it was well looked after. We had no mechanical problems and it ran well for its age. The interior was good. The conversion into sleeping from table area is so easy and slick.
They also give you nice duvet and pillows and towels.
The van became a real home from home for 5weeks and we are grateful to Wendekreisen for making campervan travel affordable by servicing older vehicles.
We were returning homeless to New Zealand in September and needed a cheap campervan to travel around North Island whilst looking for a house to buy. So in July we purchased, unseen and untried via the internet from Norway, a newly retired 2002 model Mazda E2000 2 berth campervan with 400000km on the clock from Wendekreisen. Although the deal was without any guarantee, we were very pleasantly surprised that Wendekreisen responded promptly, positively and without question to each query or minor issue we encountered during the 16 weeks that we used the van. We have now sold the van to another happy camper that was specifically looking for a van that had been pre-owned by Wendekreisen.
Our experience with Wendekreisen was most satisfactory. They could have washed their hands of the whole thing once we took possession of the van. The fact that they did not made our lives that much easier! We will definitely go to Wendekreisen first should we ever decide to rent or purchase another van in future.
We did extensive research before deciding on Wendekreisen for a campervan. We hired a budget certified selfcontained campervan for 4 people. It was a VW, quite old, but living up to what had been promised to us. It was a proper workhorse and never let us down. Why I am not giving a higher score? Because it was quite dirty everywhere on the inside. That was not acceptable.
We hired a 4 berth budget motorhome. It was alittle worn around the edges as we expected but the price was excellent and the vehicle never missed a beat. The staff were always very friendly and clear with everything being well explained. On the return the checkout process was friendly and quick. There were no additional hidden costs and I would definitely come back to this company.
Rented a campervan in christchurch. Nice staff, good van, no problems at all. Would rent there again.
If you want budget, this is a great deal. We thought we wanted budget but, on experience, would strongly recommend to spend more. Our vehicle ran perfectly well in terms of engine. It was the other minor things that caused problems including the service. Our table would constantly have bolts falling out, the cabinets would not stay shut when driving (loud banging), and our water pump was an issue that took a 1 day out of our travels at a mechanic. Trying to get a reimbursement for the lost day (and in my mind - 2 days because we had to make up time and distance) was like pulling teeth out customer service. In fact, another prospective renter that watched the interaction in the Auckland location literally walked out and in the process told me that he was thankful that he did not have to do business with this company. I understand that service in New Zealand lacks across the board, but the only way that it improves is if you walk away from those businesses. This is one of them I am sorry to say.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Christopher, we have made some investigations and would like to respond to your post as follows. Your booking history clearly shows several records of our customer service personnel who attended your queries. We would like to clarify that Christopher travelled from Auckland to Kerikeri and then called our tech support to report little or no flow from the kitchen tap/bathroom taps which are operated by the camper interior waterpump. Sureflow pumps are very reliable and used by many camper companies in NZ. The flow of these pumps can be interrupted by either an airlock (sometimes occurs as the vehicle is travelling) or by an airleak in the pump filter area (which is usually caused when servicing the filter). In either case, a repair takes 30mins - 1 hour. Our tech repair immediately organised a professional repair in Kerikeri. Christopher then travelled back to Auckland on his way south to Christchurch and came by in our branch. He explained his dissatisfaction and our Auckland representative immediately offered a half day refund. He refused a half day and demanded a full day refund which our rep immediately agreed to. When this customer returned 3 weeks later in Christchurch, he amended the attended after hours return to an after hours key drop at his request. Our records show that in the morning, our team found the vehicle with new damages, an empty gas bottle and a full toilet. He was charged extra in this regard and thus may have led him to write up this feedback. Wendekreisen is a 'social business'. We look after our staff, suppliers and customers in a balanced way. Our solutions will always be diplomatic and balanced as per our mission statement. We have been operating for over 22 years and our vehicle are in very good condition with procedures in place to ensure each unit is checked thoroughly between each hire. We are proud to deliver good vehicles at a fair price with peoples interests at heart.
Very Helpful and easy to deal with, Campervan was great.
We rented a 6 berth motorhome for 2 weeks in the south island. We were very happy with the motorhome, it had everything we needed for the trip. The motorhome was a bit of an older model and had about 350,000 kms but this did not bother us as everything worked and it was well equipped. The best part was the price and the fact that there was no other hidden charges for kilometers driven etc. The bond was held as a credit card inprint, not charged like many other providers. I would highly recommend Wendekrisen.
Booked the campervan over Pro Camper New Zealand. Great service, advice and recommendations. Wendekreisen also okay. Friendly.
Good service, reasonably cheap, comfortable size for two of us to travel in.
Poorly equipped campervan.
Great experience overall.
Had a 4 berth motorhome for 2 of us for 10 days around the south island. Vehicle had a little under 400,000 kms and drove ane handled very well.. never missed a beat.
Had a problem with the battery that left us with no power to the motorhome for 2 nights, they organised for the repair to be done on a sunday in queenstown and refunded us 1 days hire without me even asking for it.
Reccomendations.. knives needed sharpening as was very hard to cut foods.
would defiantly use again.
Had problems with the alternator and coolant light - lost a days travel due to this. However, customer service has been good and the rental price was very competitive. Would use them again.
We have rented a budget 4-berth motorhome for 3 weeks from the Auckland depot.
We were very satisfied with the service at the depot, both the lady and the serviceman were very nice.
The motorhome itself was an older one (which we were aware of), it had more than 400.000 kms. But everything worked OK, engine had enough power, brakes and steering OK - we had absolutelly no problems with the car. Consumption was also OK and with the higher price of petrol, diesel engine is good choice.
All the equipment was also working OK, so we had a nice and comfotable time.
Overall, it was perfect value for the money. The insurance was also at decent price with very few exceptions. I would definitely go again for Wendekreisen.
Campervan for three persons, nice campervan, perfect for two persons but a little bit unstable if it is very windy.
Quite expensive company with the motorhomes quality and state. Maybe better to pay a bit more even to get a better van!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Thomas, thank you for your feedback. Our vehicles should be in a condition as advertised in our videos online. We pride ourselves to provide excellent value for quality vehicles. Our rates are highly competitive and belong to the cheapest in the country. We have a range of 12 campervan types to choose from and there is a vehicle for every budget. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
We have just finished a 16 day wander of the South Island in a Koru 6 berth campervan. The campervan was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. I was scared we would suffer from cabin fever but the van offered more than enough storage and space for everyone to feel comfortable. We travelled in July because of the cheaper cost to hire the van and were blessed with beautiful weather everyday. Although the nights were very cold in some of the places we stayed, the central heating kept us nice and warm. The van wasn't brand new but we knew that when we booked but it was mechanically well looked after and was very easy to drive. We had a minor issue with the rear bumper losing a bolt but this was quickly fixed for free by one of their service agents in Wanaka. The company paid for our taxi to the Christchurch depot and kindly dropped me off at our accommodation after I returned the van. I would definitely recommend this company and am excited to see they have some newer automatic 6 berth vans coming later in the year.
Good van. The only problem is the gearbox. This company gives money back if we lost one or more days if breakdown.
Just finished a 15 day tour of the North Island and can honestly say we had a ball. So glad that we went with Wendekreisen. We hired one of their Koru S/T 2 Berth XL camper vans and it was a little gem. Everything which we could have possibly needed was provided. The service from the staff was excellent, even giving us a second doona pack at no extra charge to help us stay warm given we were travelling during winter. The van was diesel which is great as the price of petrol in NZ is ridiculously high.
My partner and I will definitely be using this company again when we go on our next trip.
We had a great 13 day tour of New Zealand's South Island thanks to Wendekreisen. Our Koru 2 Berth ST XL (VW Diesel) campervan was very clean when we picked it up and it performed flawlessly during our trip. The people that we interacted with via their website, email and in person were quick to respond and great to work with. The LPG gas heater worked well and was very efficient despite temperatures around 0 degrees C at night (we only used one tank of LPG for 13 days). The VW diesel engine with 5-speed transmission was also very efficient using only 6 Liters of fuel per 100 KM on average. Also note that Wendekreisen does not charge a Road Use Recovery fee for diesel engines like some other rental companies. The van and equipment such as microwave, refrig. stove, pots and pans, hoses, eating utensils, etc. were all like new which means they do a good job of replacing worn items. Lastly, it was nice to drive a campervan that was not a running advertisement for the rental company. Many other campervans that we saw had the name of the rental company plastered across the side of the van which looked pretty tacky.
Very good van and service at Christchurch and good demo of van before leaving. However, comfy picnic chairs rather than plastic uncomfortable school chairs to sit in the sunshine would be better.
Hired a 6 berth koru, still on holiday at the moment. I regret hiring this van and should have gone for something newer. The van is well used, there is a very loud whining noise when driving in 5th gear which gets very annoying on long drives, the back corner or the van is all rotten and soggy/damp and smells (couldn't see it hidden behind cushion until we made bed) satellite dish is broken, a light doesn't work, no batteries in DVD remote. Other cupboards etc don't work as they should - one catches on the fridge and another the locking button get stuck. I called the help line they suggested jut drying out the soggy bit with the heater and that the whining sound when driving is normal. I have driven this model truck multiple times and assure you this isn't normal though.
Think I should have hired a more later model camper or maybe we just got a dud.
I rented a 2+1 campervan from Wendekreisen for three weeks during the month of February 2014. We traveled both islands and, I have to say it was the very best campervan holiday we have ever had! My daughter and I were so impressed with the company from the moment we set down in Auckland. We gave them a quick call and their representative met us at the airport and delivered us AND our traveling companions to their facility. Our fellow travelers had rented a unit from another company and Wendekreisen graciously had a car take them to their location. Our van was clean and ready to go so we wasted no time getting started. We were fully equipped with everything we could possibly need to prepare anything we wanted in our compact and efficient kitchen. Bedding and linens enough to keep us in comfort as well. Unfortunately, our companion's van was sorely lacking in almost everything! Lucky for them we were traveling together and willing to share :) I would HIGHLY recommend Wendekreisen Travel campervans to anyone who would like to have an excellent adventure in an affordable, comfy, worry-free, fully contained environment. Take your time and travel New Zealand at your own pace - one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
My contact to Wendekreisen had started well before my actual travelling, and the communication was always very prompt, friendly and constructive. After much of comparison with countless companies and numerous requests for quotations, I chose Wendekreisen because of their most competitive offer, best service for value, and last but not least the good reviews they had received. And I have chosen well!
I had a van, the slightly newer version of the Toyota Hiace (age stated >2002-3) for about 10 weeks and travelled both South and North Islands with the same vehicle, pick up CHC, drop at AKL.
Although travelling alone, I had chosen a 3-Berth, just for the comfort of the high top and more space, freedom camping registration and power outlet. Which was worth it, every mentioned point! I had used a low-top budget van for a few weeks some years back, which was ok, but obviously less comfortable for a long period.
Irt was a great experience, very good value for money, very good service, no problems!
from march through till april we hired a motorhome from this company . staff was very friendly and helpful , the van was a little older than we expected with 350,000 on the clock , but it never let us down , this was probably due to the regular services that it had .getting to and from the hire place was made very easy due to transfers by the company .
would recommend this company for your hire needs in newzealand .
Friendly and perfect service. The Staffel ware Open for our Feedback. Cheap price an good maintenent old cars.
We hired 2 of there 4 berth budget campers in April 2014 and did just over 2500km in 2 weeks around the South Island. These campers never missed a beat and were a pleasure to drive with everything you wanted inside for a enjoyable holiday. We camped in the bush and used the LPG heater at night and had beaut hot showers as well. I would recommended this hire company to anyone who want a fuss free campervan holiday at a very affordable price. They picked us up from the airport dropped us back there no problems. Well done team for a well done campervan hire company. I will be telling everyone to use your company.
We were travelling by Campervan trough Zealand for more than 80 days with different Campervans. And we met a lot of other Campervans, so we are able to compare. The only really good thing was the setting of the van. The rest wasn't that good:
· Our Van was a rather old one (210'000 km). The Campervan itsef droves very well, but the interior was damaged or absent. Examples:
o The fridge was broken inside: The deep-freeze didn't work properly (water runs always into the fridge). And there was a hole in the fridge, which was stinky. The breech was invalid, which is quite a drag in a campervan.
o The cussions were ripped of and were not all to use... with 6 persons in a 6 person campervan, it would have been a problem.
o Bad Appointment (butt knifes, no wipes, no bucket for dishes, no map....).-> Other companys do much better!
· Tonality. You have to read at the front-window every day: «Check oil and water daily!» «Don't abuse the hitch pedal!» Otherwise «you have to pay it!!» Sorry... don't they check their Campervans before rental? The tonality ist always demanding, never ever helping.
· Insurance. We took the «all inklusive» insurance for 1'800 Dollars! We bumped the back bar and crashed a mirror (which is not so unusual). I signed with my initals in the contract, that with that insurance the excess is 250 Dollar. So it seems to be clear: We pay the 250 Dollars extra, they had already reserved from our credit card - fair enough. But we had to pay two times 250 Dollars! Why?
They had to search for their own. But they found it: Another small passus in the contract which tells you, everything counts for each incident. It would have been definitly cheaper to go to a garage, to let it fix on our own cost.
It's not the 250 Dollars extra... it's the rude tonality and the total lack of interest for any feedback to the campervan. We got one single intention of Wendekreisen: Give us your money and get off.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Ramon, Thank you for your feedback. 210.000kms is, in our opinion, not a lot of kilometers. Our vehicles travel 38.000kms annually and are serviced between each hire. Most private passenger vehicles do not travel as far, are less regularly serviced and as such, often show more wear per year. There is no deep freezer in our vehicles, only a cool box at the top of the fridge. If this did not ice up, you could have adjusted the thermostat inside the fridge to do so. A call to our 24h technical assistance might have also resolved this issue. We will inspect the cushions but to our knowledge, they are in good shape. If they were not, then we would like to sincerely apologise. Yes, we are serious about checking oil and water as this will ensure the proper functionality of our engines. We have, to date, never charged anyone for engine failure or damages. The clutch in your vehicle operates hydraulically which means that resting your foot on it will result in clutch failure within 5km's. We have never charged a clutch either but believe that many do rest their foot on the clutch pedal. Regarding panel damages, our terms, our website and the terms of your contract are very particular in regard to the $250 excess per accident. We invite every reader to read our terms at http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/about/terms.aspx . The charges are also not unreasonable as mirrors and the panel damage are expensive. Your excess would not have covered the cost of repair. We actively gather feedback here and on our surveys with direct customers. You can complete our survey at http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/about/survey.aspx. Our depots feature a range of free camping maps and we supply camping maps online at http://wendekreisen.rankers.co.nz/, the all inclusive package includes a Tom Tom GPS and we most certainly care about our customers. There was also a bucket in your vehicle and a full sink with hot and cold water to do your dishes with. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Collection of vehicle was fast and staff was friendly and helpful. However, the shower door lock was loose causing the door to swing out and we have to keep going to the back to close it. The LPG bottle ran out on our 4th day at 3am, we were frozen. Went to gas station the next day and the guy told us the bottle was definitely not full when we collect the vehicle. Money of the refill was refunded to me, however, experience was ruined.
No problem with the engine and the rest of the vehicle though. Just make sure u are getting a full LPG bottle when u r collecting.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. Pushing down the lever attached to the rubber knob of the shower door will expand the knob in the catch and thus will securely hold the door. If the lever was broken, please accept our apologies. As for the LPG Gas heating, a 9Kg bottle will usually not last any longer than 3 nights heating. If your gas bottle lasted until day 4, then it is very likely that it was full at collection. We actually weigh gas bottles as part of our pre-hire-check procedure to ensure they are full prior to delivery to you. I am not sure how the service attendant could determine that the bottle was empty at collection. Assumingly he did not have any information about the gas use prior to you filling up? Did the bottle last longer thereafter ? We are glad to hear, that otherwise, you had no problems and that the vehicle performed as expected. Please feel free to contact us on email@example.com if you wish to discuss this matter any further. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
Good car, solid ride, well equipped, friendly staff. Slow service, needs to respond quicker to customers questions and do some proper cleaning of the vehicle.
Excellent Service, good prices, van a Little bit old but good maintained, no problems during the whole four week trip around NZ on nearly 6000 km
Good contact, good service, good price, good (old) campervan
we found this company on the internet and rented a van. It was reliable and comfortable and provided us with some great travel experiences in the national camping sites. However, a traveler does not know how helpful a company can be until they have a crisis. We were in an MVA and Sascha and Wendekreisen were extremely helpful, supportive and generous in assisting us through the crisis. We found out the most fantastic part of New Zealand is the people! Thankyou Sascha and Wendekreisen.
Excellent service, vehicle a little old.
Great email communication-instant replies and even a phone call back to answer some of our questions. Fair pricing-our motor home wasn't the newest but everything worked fine.
We rented a "Koru" 4 berth motorhome for 10 days for a Northland tour. Clutch burned out and we ended up renting a car last few days. Overall great trip and Sascha from Wendekreisen went the extra mile - mechanic at road in an hour, rental and hotel covered, and motorhome rental refunded for our days out. As important, he spent time talking with me on the phone and I felt he put an honest effort to put out a good value product and do his best to back it up when there was a hiccup. Great company.
rented a car (medium) not a campervan.
the car was in good condition (despite the runtime of 110000km) an serverd us well over 4 weeks and about 3000km. even if i could affort companys like sixt/avis I would prefer wendekreisen.
The stuff is very friendly and eager to help you with any requests (even if this means to repack the camping equiment twice) and it's more like borrowing a car from a friend then renting it from a company.
Excellent help from staff. We hired a 6 berth campervan, it was clean and we had no problems with it. Will hire through them again and recommend to family and friends.
The service was average though with a lot of smiles, maybe too many to be genuine ones.
Email answering was inexistent (would you take more than 24h to answer a customer? I wouldnt).
On the phone the people were rude and challenging (would you respond to a customer that he "is being arrogand and should just deal with it" ??), and had some other bad person-to-person bad experience with the technicians.
Other than that, the van worked to expectatives and we got to travel around with a sort-of-adjusted price.
My girlfriend and I came to NZ three months ago searching for a campervan to buy.
Luckily we stumbeled across Wendekreisen who wanted to sell an old fighter. We were a bit sceptical about it, since it had run nearly 530.000 km, but we felt pretty safe in the meeting of this wounderfull company, so we went for it.
Of course there will be some minor bugs popping up when you have a van this mileage, but wendekreisen have always been there for us, helping us out with anything.
I have never experienced a more complete professional, friendly and serviceminded company before. From the first conversation on the phone, to all the people we've met, both in Christchirch and Auckland, it shines through. These people are those who make this company what it is, something special.
Wendekreisen will always look out for you and your interests.
We were delivered the trailer full of dirtiness sheets are wet medium humidity unbearable smell. Wash had on our own, do not drain the battery, the tom tom does not work .... They wanted to resolve the problem. Stewart repeatedly we hung up, say "wo wo wo .." in response to our complaints, I'm still waiting, please explain. They promised wonders, but when we take the money we give a dirty and very old pileup. We play clean ourselves to be in that disgusting. My experience was nothing like the positive reviews I read here.
we rented the 4 berth VW camper.
plenty of room every thing supplied.
no problems at all with it .
when needed to talk to staff at wendekreisen they were great we extended our stay with the same camper van.
will use this company again on our next kiwi holiday..
very impressed could not be any happier..
love your island..and the people..
john and angie..
We booked a camper with Wendekreisen after a great deal of research. We were extremely happy with the entire experience. The 4 berth koru camper was perfect for 2 adults and 2 children 13 and 10 years.
Collected in Christchurch and after 11 days touring the South Island we returned it to Christchurch. Both times we had collection and pickup from airport or airport hotel for free.
The camper had everything we needed and made a great home on wheels during our time in NZ. The price we paid was perfect in relation to what we received. Not over priced. Would definitely highly recommend Wendekreisen and their campers. Would do it again tomorrow.
You cannot go wrong if you book with this company.
Nothing was to hard for the staff as I had a lot of questions prior to arrival. Each and every one answered with care and patience via email or phone.
Congratulations to the team Wendekreisen
Many many thanks for making our holiday unforgettable.
Ally and Family
I did a lot of research before choosing this company - they are one of the few that will give you a genuine price upfront and not try to add all sorts of extras at the last minute. Our budget 4 berth camper didn't miss a beat (not bad for a 'van knocking on 400,000ks!) during our 8 day holiday - sure she's a little rough around the edges (a cupboard door fell off and we sprang a leak), but you're not paying top dollar so this didn't concern me at all.
The Christchurch staff are lovely - relaxed, helpful and friendly. I'd happily recommend Wendekreisen to friends and family.
Pete and Lauren
It's difficult to find perfection in this day and age but this company and their vans do get very close. We hired a koru star 2+1 berth for 21 days and (almost) loved every second of it! There is barely a square inch wasted and the van comes well equipped with all that you need to get by on a budget.
This was by far the most cost effective company to use for van hire and the staff were helpful and extremely friendly. We loved our van so much we had to give her a name and we still look back at the photographs of her with great fondness. We can't wait to get back and would use Wendekreisen again in a heartbeat.
Cheap and quality. We got a 2+1 berth budget and it has everything you need. It has seen a few km's but still drives well and is clean. Plenty of room, great service, the cheapest van. I would book them again. Honestly the best deal that we could find and have not been disappointed.
Wendekreisen had the best prices by far, without sacrificing quality. The van may be older, but it runs well and everything is really clean. Couldn't be happier!
We will be booking a 6 berth motorhome tonight ...good price...and emailing service prompt and very good...our holiday is not til next year in feb 2014 We are excited!
Kiwis that live in Perth.
we rented a hitop campervan for 5 weeks. they offered us for that time to take a new 3 year old koru star to the north island and then from there the budget. for that we received a discount. everything worked very well including paying for taxi on arrival. staff was very freindly and we were never overcharged for anything (had a small damage). it would have been a great overall experience but with a really great minus: the new koru star was meant to be a new van. now it was a 3 year old mazda and this van was definitely not worth to pay muh more than for the 8 year old budget from toyota. he toyota car was so much better from the handling and everyting. thats why we think it's poor to have such mazdas in the fleet (all new hitops are mazdas).
with the discount it was ok but otherwise these mazdas are much overpriced.
otherwise we can recommend wendekreisen!!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive feedback - we really do appreciate it. All Koru Star vehicles are advertised as 2010 model or newer vehicles. This is specified in the vehicle specifications http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/campervans/campervan.aspx?VehID=23 and http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/campervans/campervan.aspx?VehID=22 . The Koru Star fleet has never been advertised as brand new vehicles. The year of manufacture is also mentioned in the videos and in the text explaining what these vehicles are all about. If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve the communication in this regard, please let us know. We are very pleased to hear that our budget unit has met your expectation just as much as our Koru Star unit has. As for overpricing, we believe that our Koru Star fleet offers exceptional value when quoting up a holiday. Wendekreisen is committed to value for money and we dedicate ourselves to maintaining our vision in line with out mission statement as follows: 'At Wendekreisen, we are committed to providing quality campervan and car rental services with exceptional value for money. Our dedicated staff has our customers' holiday at heart. By investigating and monitoring a range of challenges, we create innovative, responsible and sustainable solutions relating to people, organisations and the environment. Our goal is to achieve a fair profit by developing a balance between personal and professional interests of our staff, customers and suppliers.' All the best Your Wendekreisen Team
We rented a Koru 6 berth diesel from Wendekreisen for three weeks. The entire experience was great. Pick up and drop off in Auckland were quick and easy. The camper was as described: not terribly new (7 years old with 230,000 km), but clean and in very good mechanical condition. We covered about 3,000 km and averaged 15 liters per 100 km. I would definitely rent from them again. The price for what we got was excellent.
We have got a great older toyota hiace for 4 weeks without any problems. Very good value for the money, very friendly staff. We recommend Wendekreisen and would rent this car again.
I have not booked yet because I am awaiting an email from Romi, but the communications has been so friendly and quick. Easy to see that this is a company you would like to deal with.
We experienced a friendly and quick handover/return of the camper in Auckland. Wendekreisen employees have been competent and customer oriented.
The camper has been technically o.k., but the inside was a little bit aged. All in all, we had a positive experience.
We (me and girlfriend) had a toyota hi-ace 2+1 berth for 32 days and the experience was great. Driving was very well, drove 5300 km without a problem. We had enough space to storage everything and we only had to buy a knife to cut vegetables and so on. We would recommend Wendekreisen. Pick up (Auckland) and drop off (Christchurch) were good. Maybe a bit dated, but for us that's no problem. The bed was better than expected, but in the end it's nice to finally have a real bed. Go for it..
DAR995 is a Mazda Hi-top van. Perfect for 1 or 2 people. A great little engine, not an inch of space unused and my best friend for 19 days.
The only gripes were that the kettle provided didn't work and the anti-slip mat in the shower honked a bit, but other than these easily rectified points, Darleen was and is brilliant.
Put it this way, if I go back to NZ, I'd want her again.
Wendekreisen... A long name and it totally lived up to it!!
After weeks of research about selecting the best campervan that suited our budget, gave the best insurance option, had the best of vehicles and facilities packed into it, we found Wendekreisen to fit in perfectly!
We had selected 2+1 berth Budget camper which was a Toyota Haice 1999 model. It was in the best of condition, cleaned and packed with all things we would need during our trip. The vehicle went so smooth all along the way, we didnt miss the bed feeling even once!
What made it worth taking was the booking experience offered by their staff - specifically mentioning Kanuka, Romy and Sasha.. They solved all our queries pre-booking and gave us a feeling that the camping experience is going to be amazing..
There were other expensive companies offering same or better campers (ofcourse with more money), but we found Wendekreisen total value for what we paid!
So if you are thinking to go out on a holiday to NZ and do it by camping, Wendekreisen would be your best bet, trust me!!
Tried to fob us off with a van with a chipped screen. After a day of hassle got that sorted.
Staff not v helpful and manager rude.
Van v tired. Equipment v basic. Awful design - a van not a camper van!
However, it didn't break down
There are better options out there
We will never go with this company again
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear John, we remember the day you were in our office and your booking has a complete history of events you have not mentioned below. The campervan John hired was a Koru Star 2ST which we advertise at http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/campervans/campervan.aspx?VehID=22 . These vehicles were built in 2010 and are very well suited for a holiday of 2 people. The vehicle offers all of the conveniences in this class at a very good rate. We have gathered extensive positive feedback about this vehicle type in our range of 11 types to choose from. There was a small chip in the windscreen which did not influence safety and was passed by independent New Zealand Certificate of Fitness authorities. We have offered and did arrange the repair of the chip. John received a full days refund for having to wait for the repair to be carried out. Our staff report that John was very intimidating and aggressive on the day.
Excellent company to deal with. Great service and price. Was a wonderful warm welcome to NZ
Everything that we need. All bedding, towels, crockery and cutlery was brand new, as well as all electrical items.
Good value for money, friendly service, communication in german for the booking.
Small campervan, a little bit old but very good value for the price.
Well equipped campervan and cheap.
Jackie and Brian
Van old but reliable. Very helpful on internet when booking and very helpful on collection. Got what we paid for, but all a little tired.
We hired a 4-berth budget for 17 days from the Christchurch office. Van was great and staff were awesome.
However where they really deserve huge credit is when we crashed the van causing a lot of damage. Their priority was just to get us back on the road asap and although we would have cost them significant money in repairs and time off the road (it was originally booked for the day after our return), they were still absolutely friendly, helpful and their focus was 100% on our satisfaction.
These guys are exceptional!
We hired the budget 4 birth for a family of 2 adults and 2 children (8,9). The staff before and after pick up / drop off were exceptional. The van we had, whilst was old (2003) did everything we needed and had everything we needed. As long as the bed is comfortable after a days sightseeing / traveling around this glorious country, who cares about the faded curtains (!).. I would most definitely use this company again. I wish I could give then an 11/10 as it is well deserved. From the moment we were collected from the Hotel and 29 days later dropped back at the Hotel :(, we did not have one glitch (ok, a screw fell out of a skylight but we lived with that). I would recommend this company to anybody looking for a motor home for NZ and wish Wenderkreisen well.
Troublefree vehicle (Budget 4-berth) and excellent customer service on 9-day rental. Fair prices and policies. Would use this business again.
We traveled around NZ in a Wendekreisen Budget 2+1 Berth for almost 4 weeks. The campervan wasn't "budget" regarding it's condition at all! It was in a very good shape with a very handy interior. A perfect home for traveling around!
The people at Wendekreisen were all very kind and helpful... e.g. when our little heater didn't work (it was still pretty cold at night) they just told us to buy a new one and gave us the money when we returned the camper. And we had to buy a pretty expensive one as all the shops stocked up for summer!
So all in all we were more than happy to book with Wendekreisen and can definitely recommend them!
Have fun in NZ!!!
We hired a Koru ST camper for 12 days, easy booking process and pleasant staff at Christchurch depot.
We had no mechanical issues with the van, it drove pretty well , top speed is about 80kph due to hitop.
We did have a couple of minor problems with the van, when you empied the sink, the water leaked all over the bottom two shelves in the cupboard, so we could not use them. There was evidence that it was an ongoing problem as the pipe had been repaired with sealer. The shower also took a long time to empty, so we abandoned it and used the ones in the holiday parks.
It is a very small camper and two burners is not enough for cooking, they should include an electric skillet in their cooking kit and a potato masher!
In hindsight we should have gone for a bigger camper. Also on the last day a piece of the rear door handle broke off in my husbands hand (only opened the rear door three times), for that we were charged $400 odd dollars - thankfully we had the $250 excess so that was all they could charge. This was more of a wear and tear issue rather than our negligence and the part is not that expensive - checked it out here when we got home. That did sour the experience a bit but we would use them again just not that van.
Car nicely detailed. Met by friendly staff at airport. Nice friendly, professional staff at office who were thorough and made the tranission pleasant. Have used this car rental place many times before and will continue to use many more times. AAA rating
We loved our campervan (Budget 2+1 Berth), comfortable & very nice to drive. The heater was a life saver.
The staff was very friendly. A very good choice !!
We rented a budget 4 berth caravan for two weeks and everything worked perfectly well. Staff helpful and vehicle performed well. Very good value.
We recently hired two campervans for a holiday around the North Island. Pick-up and drop-off was from the Auckland depot. We found the staff at Wendekreisen extremely friendly and helpful to deal with and prompt to deal with our enquiries. The campervans (Budget 4-Berth) were much easier to drive and more economical than we expected. They were fully equipped with everything that we needed while on holiday for two weeks - we never went to get something that we didn't have. We particularly liked the outdoor chair and tables that were included - giving us the opportunity to be outside a lot more. Would definitely recommend Wendekreisen for campervan hire.
Excellent price for basic campervan, Monique in the Christchurch office could not do enough to ensure we got off to a great start for our holiday.
Had a defect van, but they changed it.
Excellent budget van, really pleased. Great service and value!!
Good handover, nothing fancy, dealt with problems immediately. Car in good condition for its age. Well equipped vehicle, awning and table would be nice though.
Absolutely what we expected, everyone was friendly and helpfull except the breakdown assistant. Who basically blamed me because I couldn't find the non-existant re-set button. Then accussed me of being non-co-operative because I didn't want to turn arround and head back to Auckland to have the central-heating replaced.Although without cental heating for 5 days I was credited 1 day.
If they had some-one understandable on the breakdown line it would be a 10.
Good prices, good benefits, but often old camper cars, 200,000 to 400,000 kilometres driven, 2 days repairs.....but good service/telephone etc.
Really happy with the camper, everything you need is in it and it works well.
Mike & Mandy
We hired a campervan. It is a Toyota Hiace, it is small, a little old but everything works and it drives fine. Good service at Wendekreisen.
Campervan rental - excellent service, vehicle as described on web page. Pickup at airport as promised.
Very good service , quick reply via email .We rent 6berth motorhome . it's clean and great .. my kids enjoy freedom camping and it's safe country ...credit to Monique who are very good. She knew GPS may not working well and gave us old GPS .. better than nothing ya... will book with this company on next trip
Great response via email, good service at office in Christchurch.
Good price and service. It’s good to have the possibility to conversate in German, especially at the telephone. Our car run well. It’s good to have a possibility for cheap cars.
Excellent service from the Christ Church depo with very friendly / enthusiastic woman who runs the show... We hired two 6 berth camper vans and tour around our lovely South Island (We from North Island). This is the 2nd time we have hired a camper van from them and every time has been so easy and hassle free. Also so good that the Road User Fee's are all covered as we drove well over 2500 km's with out any mechanical issues.
Very well equipped, maybe slight small maintenance / fixtures tightened etc needed. We will be back again I am sure an we recommend them to all our friends and family. Regards Andersen's
Walter & Heidi Baumann
Booking, price and equipment, good car.
We are satisfied, service is good.
Nelly & Lisa
Friendly company - comfortable van - almost everything we need (no corkscrew!!) engine could be better, would recommend.
Markus & Miriam
Andreas & Leonie Fehr
Good for young people.
had a budget 4 berth camper van for a month around the north and south island. the whole experience with these guys was fantastic, they were really helpful on pickup. they provide vans which seem to be slightly older and there fore cheaper, but don't let that put you off. everything worked as it should and had no problems with it throughout the 4 weeks we had the van. would use them again and recommend them.
We had a wonderful time
Efficient and responsive booking service (email and internet) comprehensive and correct web information. Well maintained vehicle and very trustworthy and reasonably economical for age (1999).
Michael & Janet
Reasonably priced, van fine and everything works.
Very good service before arrival, good service at pick-up. Campervan is very new, just minor things missing like a camping table, scissors, can opener. Apart from that recommendable.
Good size for two, very roomy, good fuel economy, easy to drive, well equipped.
Excellent Service and a great vehicle. Thanks guys !!!
Good price for style of camper, good engine.
I would have put 10 but the waste water was not empty when I picked up the camper and it stunk when I drove the van and agitated the full tank. Other than that great service.
Great company! We booked their 2+1 economy campervan for our trip through the North Island. Great customer service and a great little campervan for the price. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a campervan.
Fran & Roger
Ok, good for a rental (in price), could be a bit better looked after, good service.
Problems with seatbelts in rear (too short).
Great van, great service, family company.
Very good company. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and well maintained vehicles. We really enjoyed our Koru 2+1 camper it was awesome !!!! Thanks so much guys !!!
Clever designs, bigger (4 berth) than we expected. Kids love sleeping in the loft.
Solid campervan, good quality for the price.
Tony & Rachel
Difficult to visualise the van you were booking from details on website, but all as described and in good working order. Has everything we need - don't book with shower, you won't use it!!
The car was reliable for me over 2 months on the north and south island accompanied...
great car, great staff, good value for your money...
we hired a campervan (budget 2 berth), which was very good value for money!
the lady in auckland, where we pick up the van, was very friendly and in such a good temper, her smile was contagious :-)
Very friedly staff, also very competent when having a breakdown of the car (gear box). We had a budget 2 Berth campervan. Engine could have a few more horse powers. Overall very satisfied.
We hired the campervan in chch and travelled around the south island returning to chch. the van was fully equiped, clean and reliable would hire again.
We had a lot of fun and many great experiencew with our "Berthi" :-) ...that was our name of the vehicle! The service from Wendekreisen was excellent. Once we had a problem with water in the van ...it was great with the fast service on the phone to help by the problem.
We never forget "Berthi"!!!
As two seniors who had never used a camper van before we found the help we received from all the staff at Wendekreisen Travel was outstanding. Our Koru Star ST2 performed very well and was perfectly adequate for our needs. This all helped to make our stay in New Zealand such a brilliant experience. We would not hesitate to use the company again.
Rented a camper with we demes sen, can't speak highly enough of them. They have by far the most reasonable insurance excess of all the providers we looked at, fees were really competitive and They were the only providers in Christchurch that would do before and after hours collection or drop off. Our service was cheerful and infor ative Excellent, thanks guys
We two have been on tour for several weeks in a 4-berth Koru Campervan in March/April 2011. The van was well equiped, tidy and cosy and we felt at home from the first to the last minute. We highly appreciated details like the useful street map in the glove box, the high quality kitchen equipment, the mirrored bathroom cabinet and lots of other small details which make life comfortable - not to forget the ready covered bedding which we only had to unpack.
We were highly satisfied with the friendly staff and the professional service and are looking forward to our next holidays with Wendekreisen.
Had a 4-berth. Great for getting out there - efficient and warm. Great people and good value. Will recommend.
We've had a great experience with Wendekreisen. The organsation is small enough to care and well priced. We did require help due to our own fault and they went out of their way to help - after hours of course. The vehicle itself was in top shape and we could tell that although the mileage was high, this unit was very well maintained (we thought it was new at first). Our experiences with this organisation have been excellent and we will certainly recommend them to all our friends. We will be back to wonderful New Zealand and we will be hiring from Wendekreisen for sure !
Hired a 4 berth budget Campervan from Wendekreisen Travel Ltd. Van was well setout & economical.10 klm to litre of diesel. Staff were frendly & van was reliable. Everything was on board that was needed to travel around New Zealand's North island. After hours contact was made due to a small hitch which was sorted straight away. We have no problems recommending Wendekreisen for Campervan hire & look forward to returning to New Zealand for another campervan holiday with Wendekreisen. Allen & Helen May 2011
Excellent holiday in a Koru 6 berth camper. The van was such incredible value for a family. Everything in the camper was exactly as expected. The staff went out of their way to help and exceeded our expectations for great customer service. We can't wait to travel with you again. Thanks so much for a memorable family holiday.
Good but not too flexible to the clients needs.
After this experience, there will be more!!
Having two children under 5 travelling with us, it made more sense to hire a Camper van.
It meant we spent more quality time when visiting family & friends than packing / unpacking every 2nd night & also the bliss of not having to settle the children into new beds / surroundings etc.
Our 3yr old son had a blast knowing that he had the ladder bed (above the cab) as his very own domain!!
Only issue we found was the booster seat that we got supplied for him as it had next to nothing in the padding under his bottom, which resulted in tears - but was sorted by a quick thinking mum!!
This experience also got family members thinking!!
Perfect service and friendly staff. The 2 Berth ST was in a very good condition and had some nice extras (enough storage room for our lugage for example). No problems with the van during our 1 Month / 4000km Trip.
Great service from initial booking to the drop off. Sila is an absolute gem and her smile, sense of fun and laugh started a great holiday. The 2 vehicles we hired, a 6 berth Koru and a 4 berth Koru had no problems throughout the 10 days. Would recommend this company to anyone who wants a great experience in NZ. Will be going back and will use them again even if it only to catch up with the smiling Sila.
Ken, Cheryl, John & Anne-Louise
We had the budget 2 berth ST which was great value for money. It was a little tired but that's what we expected for the budget camper.
Mechanically the camper was great and really reliable. The only minor issue is the engine lacks power for some of the steeper climbs and we had to drop into 2nd gear a few times just to get up a hill.
Petrol consumption was higher than expected but New Zealand is a very hilly place with some very tight and twisty roads which keep you in the lower gears.
We did over 6000km in 1 month and had a great time in our camper that we christened Betty.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear I Love NZ,
Thank you for explaining New Zealand road conditions and associated rise in fuel consumption. We are very pleased to hear about your positive experience with us.
Your Wendekreisen Team
Mr Stanley and Miss Christy
They provide good service, good vehicles and friendly staff.
The Budget Berth is good value for money.
The campervan was badly maintained. The many defects had a negative impact on our holiday. To name a few;
Cupboards opened during driving which caused our goods to fall on the floor; bad passenger seat, fully worn out; car pulling to the left; burned out water heater; parking light burned-out etc. etc. Apparently Wendekreisen does not check their cars. I gues their answer will be: why did you not contact us to have these defects repaired? My reply is: I would have to pay the rent during the downtime and in large parts of New-Zealand there is no GSM contact posssible. Luckely the car did not come to a full standstill in such an area!
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
New Zealand has mobile phone coverage in 95% of all settled areas. We also provide a freephone number which you could have used from any public payphone in those areas without GSM reception. We do carry out a pre-hire-check procedure before each and every hire. We have 4 full time staff (2 in Auckland and 2 in Christchurch) employed to carry out just this procedure. In total, we employ a full-time team of 16 staff managing a fleet of 145 Campervans and 30 Cars. All of these staff are experienced and properly trained. You are welcome to receive a copy of the check report on your vehicle. Things can break on your holiday and we are there for you 24 hours 7 days a week in case you need any help. If you do not ask for help it is difficult to provide assistance. Our team is committed and shares a vision of providing vehicles in good condition and do apologise if you have experienced problems in your holiday. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss this issue further.
Jason & Beth Berlin
Campervan was well stocked and well maintained. We did have some difficulties with carseat installation initially however (1hr in the parking lot).
Ian & Gill Johnson
The vehicle has a petrol engine. 7.5km/litre at best and has had to be checked twice, once for no power and once for leaky radiator. Leaking pipes and leaking rooflight in van.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Ian & Gill,
We have checked all recent bookings with your surname and none have mentioned problems in their hire history. We do advertise pertrol 2-berth campervan vehicles and the fuel consumption stated by you totals to approximately 13l/100 which is normal considering the high roof and hilly roads in New Zealand. The fuel consumption also depends on the driver and many other factors of course. It appears extremely awkward that our on-road assistance did not hear from you nor the problems you have apparently encountered. We believe we have not had a faulty radiator in several years as we do exchange them every 95.000km together with all fittings, clips and hoses. So not sure where and when you had this problem. We would appreciate if you could contact us to clarify the matter. All the Best Your Wendekreisen Team
We have booked two times first for 5 weeks, second for 3 weeks. First time we got an upgraded van. Superfriendly and professional staff. Nice pick up and dropp off even during the earthquake desaster. Transport to Airport, equipment better than prebooked,. Both vans were not the newest ones but that was not bad, because so 'our' scatches joined the former ones without any problems when we gave back the vans.
Norm and Sky
Campervan: Broke down, reverse and 5th gone, Needed new gear box replacement. They were very professional throughout - trying to deal with issue as quickly and efficiently as possible - even with earthquake.
Free phone number, clean campervan, free transportation to pick-up area.
Good holiday, van was sweet as and in our price range. Their insurance options are good and they dont charge hidden stuff.
Toyota Camper Van supplied by Wendekreisen was perfect. Everything worked, no problems whatsoever. Wendekreisen Agents were helpful and polite during pick-up and dro-off of van. Even were a given a rental car free of charge one day prior to our pick-up of the camper van. This allowed us to go to restaurant and simplified transfer of luggage. Overall, an excellent company supplying reliable van at reasonable cost.
Great campervan for small people. I am 6ft3in and it is like getting into an igloo and my wife needs a parachute to get out of the cabin. But you get what you pay for. We wanted a smaller van and got it. Otherwise perfect.
Excellent camper, fully equipped with all utilities. Given extra bedding for length of stay.
excellent holiday. vehicle, price and staff were great. no problems at all.
Had a look around. Even their older vans look in top shape. Nice lady was showing me around and diff models. Our van was brand new and just like advertised. They were friendly and wicked value. Good company - dont hesitate.
Good in preparation but camper was not cleaned. Still used water from our predecessor, most probably due to earthquake in Christchurch. But we should have been informed.
We are only a third of the way through our trip but so far, so good! We hired a campervan, slightly older and cheaper than Maui and Britz. We would probably get a larger version next time, but would have no problems using the same company.
Hired a Koru Star 2ST camper van in Feb 2011. The van appeared virtually brand new, and was in excellent condition and very well laid out. They included outside chairs and a fold out table, and the radio had an MP3 player socket - all very useful. The insurance package we chose included free TomTom and DVD player. On collection, we were met by a really friendly helpful guy holding our name right at the ferry terminal in Picton. On drop-off at Christchurch, a different person, but the same friendly attitude, and a free ride to the airport (despite us having broken a bowl). This despite all the hassles they must have endured with the earthquake right before we arrived!
Van coped perfectly with the steep windy roads on the south island. In fact, absolutely no problems with the van, or the booking process. Have already recommended to others.
Nice couple, but old campervan, (very old).
Annelie & Martin
Good organisation, nice campervan!
Good service, uncomplicated.
OK for a cheap camper, had to fill oil on second day which was wrong. We would pay extra next time for a better camper.
Good motor, no problems, better bed.
Value for money is OK. But camper isnt just old its in a suboptimal shape and does not correspond to the information on their website.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. This way, we do not have any means of checking your booking but we do provide EXACTLY what is offered on our website. We have brand new vehicles and a range of vehicle types ranging into older catgories. The price corresponds to the vehicle age. However, we do make every effort in preventative servicing to ensure the older units are kept in very good shape and perform well. Thank you for your comments. Your Wendekreisen Team
We hired a campervan - it was broken after 4 days, but the service of the company was very good - they provided another van and we got money back.
Campervan, excellent car. So far so good, but we have not returned the car yet!
Small family company. Great service (will pay for taxi to depot).
They did not honour late pick up drop-off times they had on their website. (Their excuse was they "forgot" to update their website).
They may charge you 1 day extra, (if you hire say 4pm on day and drop off 2pm the next; they'll charge you for 2 days not 1)
Poor Interior of cars...
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. We are not sure what you mean in regards to after hours vehicle returns. We have always had this option and on 10 December 2010, our terms where changed. The change in terms included a new time frame for late returns to enable our staff to have a proper nights sleep. This was changed on our website on 10 December - the day the new terms were released - approx 40 days before you booked your hire with us. Our late return policy is 'After hours vehicle collections are not available after 20.00pm and before 6.30am'. All campervan companies charge rental by calendar day and not 24 hour rule (i.e. such as rental cars). This means each day of hire is charged as a full day, regardless of the time of collection or return. There are particular reasons for this. We will follow up on the interior condition of this vehicle to ensure there are no shortcomings. Best Regards Your Wendekreisen Team
I actually used rankers and decided on Wendekreisen over the others. Likely due to price and good reviews. Got the rental all sorted out online and a phone conversation. Landed in Auckland late, caught a cab over to the office, they paid for the cab. Had a friendly staff member get us all set up and on our way with travel tips, this was great because we just got off a 28 hour total travel with stop overs and were pretty bagged and had no idea where to start.
The camper itself worked out great, got a 4-berth for my wife and I. During our vacation we did have a mechanical issue (could have happened to any vehicle) that was fixed within 24 hours just outside of a small town. Speaking with the mechanic, a lot of other campervan companies tell you to go rent a car and finish off your vacation, not too cool. Wenderkreisen was great, they quickly coordinated the repairs with parts that weren't readily available and had us back on the road as fast as they possibly could.
We dropped off the van in Christchurch, again friendly staff, drove us over to the airport after we were finished up.
The Wendekreisen experience worked out well, I would recommend it over any of the big name companies with comparable vehicles.
Excellent well maintained Vehicle and good service. Happy to recommend
All correspondence was prompt and informative, great range of vehicles from new to oldish. From what we saw in their garages, all vehicles looked really good. Could not fault our campervan. It was a 1999 model camper but looked like only a few years old and ran very very excellent. The equipment was also very good, complete and in good working order. Look at the excess policy !!! - its brilliant with these people. Price also very good and friendly people. Come highly recommended - dont hesitate - honestly :)
Great and prompt service from the friendly staff. The campervan did not give any problems and our holiday was made perfect. Thanks guys
Thomas & Jucki
Very friendly company.
8 year old car, cheap to rent, expensive in petrol, budget car.
Cheap camper provided, however some of the equipment is too old.
Everything as expected, vehicle OK, good price and no problems at all. Also took a car - no problems with this as well. Would recomend as thier were no hidden charges.
Customer service and family run style of business is very good. Common sense approach to minor vehicle damage.
Our first trip in a campervan - booked the Koru 6 birth - everything as pictured on website and in great working order. Everyone at Wendekreisen was professional and very friendly. Definately telling our friends and looking forward to next years trip.
Very good service. They speak German which was helpful.
Hired a 4 berth for 3 weeks travel around North and South Islands, did 3,500 kms with no problems whatsoever. Van was great and everything we needed. Great value for money. Everyone we dealt with at Wendekreisen was so friendly and professional. Will be recommending to all our family and friends.
We had a Budget 2 camper and it was fine. The camper was very good look and had what we need. It was cheap and everyone was friendly. Many speak German and that was good too. Exactly what we wanted.
Cool little campervan. Good presentation and great service. We enjoyed our holiday. Thank you.
Had a Koru 6 campervan for a 5 day stay in the central North Island.
This was a great vehicle in very good condition. The staff in Auckland were brilliant as this was our first campervan hire, and they explained all I needed to know to work things. The price was great and I would not hesitate to recommend these guys if you need to hire a campervan while travelling around New Zealand
We booked this vehicle from overseas and everything worked worked out well and easy. Had a Koru 4 campervan. The vehicle was economical and well presented. The staff and price was great ! Would not hesitate to recommend this company for a camping holiday in New Zealand.
We got the minivan for our group of 7. We were really satisfied with it. The staffs were really nice too. We did not have any problems with the car at all.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Got no complaints at all and their rates are fantastic. Agree with comments below, our vehicle was as expected, tidy and well cared for. Wendekrisen comes highly recommended.
Campervan was exactly as described. Lovely and clean and fully equiped. Email questions answered promptly. Excellent value for money. We had late pick up and early drop off (4:30 am) we were picked up and dropped off at airports by the team who were really friendly and helpful. The van was a little sluggish on steeper inclines but this didn't detract from the whole holiday experience of three weeks. Would definately use again.
Very happy with everything. Vehicle was in good nic and good value for cash. Couldnt find a better deal and the campervan was great. Had a fun time and would use again.
Too bad for 3 month to travel! old car and old equipment.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Your comment comes as a surprise to us. Our team really puts every effort in to ensure the equipment is in good shape, you are looked after and the vehicle runs without problems. If there are problems, we are here to give you personal assistance 24/7 (and no you don't talk to Malaysia :). Sometimes, its is hard to tell if a knife is blunt when doing the dishes in preparation. This is why we have the allowance of $50. This allowance allows you to replace whatever we missed. We are not sure what you expected but the age of each of our fleet is advertised on our website and with all our agents. Sure some fleet types are older but the interior, body and furnishings even in our oldest vehicles should be in A1 condition. We have a huge budget for such things and are pretty pround of our vehicles. We offer anything from 2008 model 6-Berth motorhomes to 1999 model buget 2+1 campervans. Watch our page for the upgrade of our Koru 4-Berth fleet as we are introducing 21 units 2006 Model VW's in near new condition and introduce a Budget 4-Berth fleet with our existing fleet.
We've never had a 2 before and to us this is something we dont like at all. Afterall we also take some pride in our hard everyday work.
The Wendekreisen Crew
Mr & Mrs Sage
We do feel that penalised for their clerical mistakes. When we booked the campervan in August 2009 we were not told of any extra charge for hire before 4th Jan 2010 - but had to pay extra money and also for picking it up after 1pm.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Hey there, checking our records, yes we did ask you to pay for the after hours service fee of NZ$60. Our reservations team simply missed that the 4th Jan was still a public holiday in NZ. Afterall, we did employ one staff just to be with you and they did receive NZ$60 for that service from us. However, after a brief discussion, you were refunded those NZ$60. Not sure why you think that you have been charged for that service. We would like to mention that Wendekreisen does not charge any hidden costs.
Old car, no air conditioning, very used car.
I can only recommend this company the campervans aren't very new (the camper was driven over 200,000km), but i knew alot from the beginning and their prices are very reasonable
Best price by a long way for an old vehicle that still functions fine.
We had the Koru 4-Berth for 14 days and it was more than we needed! A four people camper for two. But it was about as expensive as an two persons camper of any other company - so it was cheap! OK I have to admit, that we were quite late with booking.
The staff is very friendly and offers a good service. This includes a free pick-up and drop-off at the airport, quite essential I think.
Although the Koru 4-Berth is not state of the art, it is a very good Volkswagen. The engine is reliable and has enough power. The camper is well equipped and has everything you need! It is very spacious too! With my 1,94m I had no problems at all!
Our 4 berth Kora was very well equipped and provided comfortable, reliable service over the 31day hire - excellent value. From initial booking through to return of vehicle, the service was friendly and efficient. (email queries answered by return). Would thoroughly recommend
Good campervan and a good price. These people are good. No worries....Vielen Dank fuer den schoenen Urlaub !!!
Excellent no complaints
A very good experience. Our campervan was in good shape, customer service was friendly and everything worked just fine. Better than expected.
Good price - a little old interior
Reasonable price, very good service, we got stuck on a flat battery and the 24hr helpline organised everything for us, good introduction to car at pick up, van well equipped, we weren't missing anything.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for the good feedback. We really appreciate it and hope to welcome you again
Your Wendek Team
Rental car/Campervan - cheap but old cars.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Josy, thank you for your feedback. The vehicle age is pre-specified. We have vehicles from brand new to 1999 Budget campervans. All vehicles regardless of age should be supplied in a very good condition.
He is not ecological, it wastes a lot of gasolene. Car is old and much used.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Dear Joe, thank you for your feedback. The fuel consumption and vehicle age are advertised throughout our website and the booking process (direct with us and with our agents).
Good website, friendly people
The relation betweeen price and quality is very good. No problems at all with the campervan (the tom tom is of great value and was free).
Cheap, basic, all you need campervan (2 persons)
Price and vehicle are very good. Service was good except for the extra $60 charge for pickup before 8am.
Campervan is in a good state but no waste hose was supplied. A few little problems to work around but nothing big.
good reliable camper----3 weeks on the road---no complains---value for money
Still on our travels but until today the service and campervan has been very good!
Campervan was dirty and mouldy - high humidity from using the kitchen (cooking place), noisy fridge. Cupboards and windows are difficult to open.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
We appreciate your feedback. Could you please forward your booking number to firstname.lastname@example.org so we can follow up on this.
Your Wendekreisen Team
We hired a Koru 6 berth from this company in Nov, very welcoming, helpful and friendly staff at pickup from Auckland and drop of at Christchurch. Camper was very well presented, had everything you could need and had been well cleaned and checked. Everthing well explained, manuels good, overall good experience and would use them again.
An excellent friendly company to hire campers from.
Excellent service at pick up and return of campervan. Everything on board in very good condition and working order.
Great car . . great people. . .friendly service. . .great value for your dollar. . .a good experience all round. Thanks to all the folk down at the Christchurch branch. Will definitely use them again.
Competetive prices, got one of the budget, 2 berth campervans (Mazda E2000, 2002) and were happy with it! Nice guys as well down here at the Christchurch office.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:

Great pick up service from airport. Friendly, down to earth with helpful advice. Great rates.
Campervan a bit old. But very friendly staff and lots of free extras cheater, campering chairs, etc.)
Older van but in good condition and well maintained. Had a tyre blow out and the company dealt with this promptly. Very good value compared to other companies when I compared prices. 8.5 / 10
One of the cheapercampervans, clean at pick up. Older Campervan but fine.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your time and effort.
By problems you only have to make a call or write a email and the answer is so helpful.
Very nice people, good explaining, when you have a problem they help very fast.
Van came in once, table unstable. Poor engine (downside) has everything you need, good service (upside)
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Did you know: - We currently employ 12 staff with a combined experience of 82 years in the vehicle rental business -
Service is great, vehicle good only some of the equipment broke easily. (We broke two chairs already).
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
These chairs are no longer being used.
Very good information, conversation, booking.
Fridge & waterpump always broken.
Some things were not explained properly, no manual. Otherwise great.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your time and effort.
Good preparation of the campervan, friendly people.
Good service so far.
Unfriendly German staff but fast help with a problem.
Good service, quick response. Ok campervan.
The campervans are not the newest but the price / performance ratio is perfect.
Old campervan but cheap price. Helpful manager.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Did you know: - Our Team Members complete a 'Pre Hire Check Procedure' to ensure everything is in good
working order. We keep detailed records of this procedure -
Very good impression! You need to book early as they are a smaller company. They also recommended a trip to Tiri Tiri Matangi, which was very enjoyable.
They were excellent in every respect.
10 for the van & it's cleanliness.
It was also very practical & more spacious than the Maui van that we hired in Australia, though this was also very good
10 for customer service.it was friendly & more personal than a large company.
10 for booking procedure, paying of deposit & information.
It was a wonderful way for us to travel with 4 kids.
Well equipped car. Fair price and good service.
Responds by email within an hour or 2, not days like other companies. Very reasonable rates and the 4berth campervan condition was fine.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Free phone Helpline was always available and I was able to replace a faulty water pump easily in Rotorua through their authorised repair shop there.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your time and effort.
Fabulous company. No troubles with camper. All extras included (unlike other companies who sting you with secret fees!) Excellent customer service - quick responses via email. Highly recommended.
Good motorhome and very good overall service.
Was impressed, I did not expect such good value for money. No complaints at all
A Wonderful Family Business of Medium Size. They try hard and their vehicles are in top notch at a good price. Vehicle excess policy is also fair and best in NZ. Service, vehicle and price were excellent
No complaints really. It's fully stocked with utensils and equipment. It's cosy!
They speak German, this is very fine. Good low budget campers.
Wendekreisen Travel responds:
Did you know: - We are 3 generations of Family. 2 generations are actively involved with Wendekreisen-
People were very nice. I'd recommend an automatic simply because we're not used to driving on the left side of the road.
The heating doesn't work so on the West Coast that was a little problem. But is it OK.
Great company, Totally enjoyed my holiday. The price, quality and customer service were tops.
Great service but car not what we expected. A little small with a tiny petrol tank and got an auto instead of a manual. Probably my fault I did not check properly.
Good value for money.
