Very, very helpful company. Vicky & Steve did all they could to provide us with suitable camper van despite being the busiest time of year. We had to change vans because of availability towards the end of our booking, but the changeover was very easy and we ended up with a larger, more comfortable van at no extra cost. The vans were very well equipped and proved very reliable. Vicky & Steve responded very quickly to all our many queries & questions. G and J Campers highly recommended.
Everything was superb with Kia Ora Campers! During our seven weeks with the camper we had some minor problems which we could solve quickly thanks to Steve. I recommend them highly and would book again.

Vicky was responsive throughout and the campervan was great. I enjoyed my interactions with Kia Ora Campers and the price was competitive
My experience is a three weeks period just before Christmas 2018 that I have spent travelling through NZ with my wife for our honeymoon. Our campervan was the 2018 Freedom. We chose Kia Ora, despite being a small and unknown brand, for the positive reviews we read all over this site. I have to say this was my first experience in a campervan and probably I should have chosen a bigger van cause the Kia Ora Freedom 2018 turned out being quite uncomfortable. The van itself was quite new and, on the paper, it had all the right features: self contained with toilet and shower, microwave, solar panels, rear camera etc. As per our experience: the van was not ready when we arrived at the rental location and we had to wait for almost two hours while it was cleaned and prepped. The owner kindly brought us to the nearest supermarket and we spared some of that wait doing our groceries. Living in the van has not been easy, it had a number of small issues like the heating system refusing to work sometimes or the toilet flush that wouldn't stop after the button was depressed but most of those things would solve themselves quite easily in short time and Steve was always available on the phone to help. Another bad point of the campervan was the fresh water and grey water tanks size, definitely too small to stay 3 days off the grid as well as the absence of a garbage bin with a lid. Also, the van only had fixed side window and none equipped with a flyscreen therefore we only could use a small roof vent that had a net fitted on it. Last but not least it had very limited storage space and every time we had to pickup something like table and chairs we had to undo the bed, not practical at all. Overall I'd say we paid quite a high price for what we had got (250$/day over 3 weeks) and now with hindsight I would get something slightly bigger for a small difference in price or something much smaller if I had to save money.
Steve & Vicki were so great to work with. Answered my emails very quickly and made sure we got the camper we wanted. I loved having no worry’s when it came to our campervan and highly recommend Kia Ora to all my friends traveling to New Zealand.
Well done and keep up the good service from Family of Small Red Dot! Singapore 👍🏾
We had a great holiday in the Kea Breeze campervan that we rented from Kiaora. We travelled right round the SoutH Island, without incident. We had a couple of queries - not related to any problems with the van, which Steve was able to assist us with very promptly. Would not hesitate to use Kiaora again, or recommend them to others. Many things with them were included, such as table, chairs, BBQ, GPS, reversing camera, with other companies these are often extras. Only tip? Chose a van significantly bigger than you think you might need, and remember you have to stow luggage somewhere, so collapsible versions are better!
Couldn't ask for a better company to do business with. Vicky and Steve are very helpful and accommodating. Hired a VW 6 berth for 12 days and although it was 7 years old was still in good condition and drove well. We covered 2000+km all over the South Island without any real problems, it was understandably working hard up some of the mountain roads and had a little auto gear change lag. Beds were comfortable and camper was well equipped. Had the vehicle delivered to Queenstown, where we were met on time and had a full and clear briefing, and picked from Picton where again everything went smoothly with everything done to accommodate our wishes. I would fully recommend Kia Ora Campers to anyone who wants personal, competent and accommodating service from people who can't do enough for you. Thank you for a brilliant holiday.
A great two-week van rental. We rented a 2 berth Kia Freedom Transit, fully equipped and pleased to find that all bedding and towels included, it was a perfect size for the 2 of us. We picked it up in Auckland and dropped it off in Christchurch
Vicky and Steve were very professional and helpful, everything went well without any problems
Definitely recommend Kia Ora Campers (and did so to others during our trip)
small company ,nice campers ( a bit old 2011, but we got all the info in advance ) fully equipped and in a good shape
great support and service !!! we had a problem on the way and they fully support us.
when we return the camper they didn't check any missing fork as in other companies
very recommend them
Great company and always there to help when needed. We had the pleasure of driving around Vincent Van Gogh and we miss him so much already and it hasn’t even been a week yet! Would recommend Kia Ora to everyone!!
We hired a 2 Berth 2018 Kia Ora Freedom van. It is a large Ford transit van, so it is small enough to park easily in town and cope with the bends and bumps of the New Zealand roads. Having spoken to another couple who had hired a larger motorhome and were wary about driving it along some of the roads in NZ, I am glad we had not gone for a bigger van.
The camper offers a certain level of comfort with a fridge, hob, heater, shower and toilet. Plus you can walk from the driver seat to the back of van without getting out of the vehicle -very useful when raining.
Kia Ora include many items that are extras with other companies, such as Sat Nav, camper chairs and a BBQ.
By design, that the microware and plug sockets only work when the power is connected to an external supply. But there are usb ports you can use to charge your phone and tablet, off power. We camped for 4 nights in a row without connecting to power, and if I read the meter correctly, could have camped for at least another night, as the battery is topped up by a solar panel and the engine.
Early on we had a couple of other minor issues which were resolved quickly over the phone. Later on in our trip we noticed could not get hot water in the shower - but it worked in the sink. We only noticed it halfway during our trip and it was a few days after that I reported it to Kia Ora. I have not docked a star for this as we reported it quite late in the holiday and at the time said we weren't too bothered about this.
Everything else met our expectations and we found the camper comfortable. We found our dealings with Kia Ora very fair.
The other bits of advice I would give to people hiring this van are:
Beware that the south island has limited mobile phone coverage, particularly in campsites outside of towns and even in places such as Milford Sound.
Ensure at least one of you bags can be folded flat. We had 2x60 litres bags and just managed to store our belongings in the cupboards.
Kia Ora Campers responds:
Thanks Guys , we loved having you.
We warmly recommend Kia Ora Campers. Vicky & Steve provide a very good support. Flexible, friendly, helpful, excellent value-for-money.
We hired a camper for just over 7 weeks. It was a Ford Transit, so fairly small but perfect for our needs. It was fully self-contained with shower and toilet. It was comfortable. It was easy to drive and easy to park. We appreciated the gas heater and the extra gas bbq. Also the safe was useful to lock valuables away.
They supplied it with plenty of towels and lots of bedding.
We found we never needed to stay in a powered site as the solar panel and battery supplied 12volts or the lights and water pump. We never used to TV or the microwave, electric kettle or toaster. But they are there if you need them.
The only problem was the sliding door leaked when it rained but it didn't wet any of our things just the cupboard that held the sink.
